Tribal Sign-In: Immortal At The Start-Chapter 222: First Outside Meal
’A man who puts discipline and laws above familial emotions... a just lord but a cold father, I wonder how much you know, Alger Barley,’ Rion remarked inwardly.
"My liege?" Yuura, who was staring at the table full of plates that had various colourful and stylish meals that suited a noble estate, called out to him with a confused expression, as he had never seen something like this.
Rion came out of his thoughts, turned his head towards Yuura and asked, "What’s wrong?"
Yuura pointed at the table and mumbled, "That’s food?"
The corners of Rion’s lips lifted upwards. He nodded his head and added, "Yes, that’s our dinner."
The maids were already gone after placing the plates. The two were standing a few steps away from the table, as a few minutes ago, the servants had brought in a wooden table and two chairs because the guest quarters weren’t furnished for receiving company.
Normally, rooms were prepared at least a day in advance. But Rion and his party hadn’t been expected, and so nothing had been arranged.
Even then, tables and chairs were a basic necessity, and their lack told Rion how seldom the manor entertained guests.
"Should we eat, my liege?" Yuura questioned while keeping himself from jumping onto the food.
"We should," Rion responded, and the two sat in the chairs placed at the two ends of the table.
Seeing the silver fork, spoon and knife, Rion’s eyes gleamed in reminisce for a moment.
Smiling, he picked up a plate with something that looked similar to steak, but it was presumably of an ether beast. He put some of it in his plate and placed the other plate down.
Yuura watched Rion and replicated his actions.
Rion raised a mouthful of it with his fork and ate it.
Just as it touched his tongue, the ruch favours trapped inside the meat exploded, and stars appeared in both of their eyes.
’Damn.’ Rion was left speechless, and Yuura stated with a starstruck expression, "It’s amazing!"
"It is..." Rion mumbled and thought, ’Maybe I should take some chefs to the mountains? Hmm. I need to think more about this.’
For all the rights, Lara was great at cooking but she wasn’t as trained as the ones whose very lives depended on making good food.
After that short exchange, the two of them once again began to eat.
The next half hour passed in silence, the only sounds that filled the rooms were of chewing and the spoons and forks hitting the plate as they ate without a single word.
The meals were simply much more flavourful, the red and black mountains were full of herbs as well as spices, but not all of them were harvested.
Only a few, which were easy to get, were used, so even though the food there was good, it paled in comparison to the meals prepared with spices that came from all across the world.
’We need spices, and unlike a specific group, we’ll also use them,’ Rion stated while cutting into a cream fruit swirl pastry.
After fifteen minutes, they finished the dinner.
Servants returned, took the dirty plates and moved the table and chairs into the corner for later use and left.
Afterwards, Rion checked everyone who was in the manor, and both of them fell asleep.
However, Rion didn’t actually embrace the sleep; instead, he just closed his eyes and watched everything using his Zone.
Like usual, the shy moon left for the bold sun to take over, and the next day was upon them.
A few hours passed as they freshened up, had breakfast, and left their rooms.
At the moment, Yuura, Dora and Zaelyane were standing in the garden and before them was Calvus, covered in sweat from top to bottom, swinging a sword with absolute focus.
"Is this how outsiders learn ether arts?" Yuura questioned curiously.
Zaelyane nodded and said with no emotions whatsoever, "Ether arts are not only hard to master, but they are also dangerous.
"Mastering them doesn’t make our bodies immune to the phenomenon that takes birth from them, so before actually trying the ether art, they perfect the body movement, then the breathing and then they put them together."
A frown appeared on Yuura’s face, and he mumbled, "Then what about the Sovereign’s ether art that makes him three times stronger?"
Zaelyane smirked and said, "That art is not just an ether art but also an aura technique — it requires both aura and ether to function."
"Oh..." Understanding dawned on Yuura.
Dora, on the other hand, was staring at Calvus with envy.
She turned her head towards Zaelyane and asked the question that was festering in her mind, "Is it possible to perform ether arts using a bow?"
Shaking her head, Zaelyane answered flatly, "It’s not possible for a bow, but it’s possible for an arrow."
Her expression brightened instantly. She hopped closer to Zaelyane, grabbed her hand and asked, "How?"
Zaelyane looked in her eyes and said, "Ether dust, using it, you can inscribe runes on your arrow, and then the ether will move according to your will."
Tilting her head, Dora asked, "What is a rune?"
An unfamiliar bright smile appeared on Zaelyane’s face, and she said, "The Mother existed before the existence of languages; thus, to remember something, Mother drew symbols for them, and now we call those symbols — Runes, language of nature."
"Language of nature..." Dora mumbled under her breath.
Jamie, who was standing a few steps away from them, mumbled, "What are they even saying...?"
All of a sudden, a glimmer passed through his eyes, and he mumbled, "Wouldn’t it be better if I get a tutor for them? The better they are, the more useful they would be."
He glanced at Calvus, who was to start his punishment after two days and whispered, "I should consult the young master."
—
"What is your real identity?" Alger asked while staring at Rion, who was looking at him with a faint smile stretching across his face.
