Chapter 195: Chains in the Dark

The news of Haden and Rion waking up spread throughout the tribe, and the tribe members, who were waiting to see them, demanded that Marin and Valak hold a celebration feast.

However, Marin and Valak shut them off, not because they did not want to celebrate but because none of them knew where Rion was.

After staying with Dora for a day, Rion had unexpectedly disappeared from Zaelyane’s hut, and the only person who could tell them about his current location, Haden, refused to disclose anything, telling them to begin the preparations and wait for his return.

Even though they wanted to ask further, they stopped themselves and commanded the tribe members to start the preparations.

Thus, the preparations for a feast much grander than Rion’s began and the red and black mountains were once again filled with activity.

And while all of this was taking place in the Redwood Basin, a few kilometres away from it, Rion sat cross-legged within his cave.

Like usual, he had already checked and filled the demonic energy of all the remaining null cores into the square hole and was now focusing on strengthening his control over the demonic energy that was being generated by his Demonic Heart.

Due to his poor control and lack of a null core, the demonic energy was spreading across his body, causing the centre and left portion of his upper body to turn dark purple.

He focused on the demonic energy within his heart and tried to keep it from flowing, but demonic energy was way different from aura, he couldn’t control it using the same methods and was thus failing at keeping it from spreading across his body.

Unlike aura, demonic energy was chaotic, and as he tried to force it, it either fell apart or spread even faster.

However he didn’t stop, he still remembered that while saving Dora, he had controlled not only his own but also the demonic energy that was flowing through her, he just didn’t know how he did it.

’I have to stay calm and focused,’ he mumbled inwardly and tried once again.

Using demonic energy caused the person to lose emotion over time but that didn’t seem to be the case for Rion, as his will was able to overpower that effect, allowing him to try over and over again.

The demonic energy spread through his body, turning his flesh similar to that of the kareth and the immortal body healed him the next moment. Because of this, his heart produced even more demonic energy to counter the abundant life essence, making controlling it even harder.

Even though they existed in pseudo-harmony, once they left his heart, they were no longer bound by the Absolute Seal.

"It’s not working..." he mumbled in irritation and tried once again.

The result was the same, and annoyed by the endless failures, he mumbled, "System."

A blue screen flickered before his eyes.

He stared at the new tab with a thoughtful look and muttered, "The Remnant had fed life essence to the Corrupted Abysmal Flame to create the impure demonic energy, then he filtered it into pure demonic energy... so..."

His eyes gleamed curiously. "Can’t I feed pure demonic energy to the Corrupted Abysmal Flame to create the purple flame that would just stay locked into the seal?"

The purple flame generated by the Corrupted Abysmal Flame was not similar to the demonic energy; instead, it was an energy that could devour everything that he wanted, but controlling it was so difficult that even The Remnant had to use demonic energy just to keep it in check.

Rion stared at the screen for a few moments before he dismissed them and said, "Doing this would require too much time." His gaze shifted towards the north, and he added, "Time that I lack."

The only reason why Rion was trying to keep the demonic energy in control was that he didn’t want the tribe members to panic.

Unlike him, they had been scarred for decades, even centuries, by the very power that he now commanded.

And knowing that the high commander who had led them to freedom was now the one who could make them go through all of that once again would only cause unwanted chaos — chaos that he didn’t have time for.

A sudden thought appeared in his head, and he mumbled under his breath, "What if I do this?"

He closed his eyes, his aura flared, and he began to revolve it around the centre of his heart.

Demonic energy tried to spread, but just as it collided with his aura, it vanished.

"This could work..." he said. "But then half of my aura would be used just so I don’t look like a half zombie."

The centre and left portion of his upper body was no longer purple, but he still had a small purple ring right at his heart.

He touched the purple ring and mumbled, "This would do for now."

A chuckle escaped as he thought about his absurd situation. ’Wasting aura just so my own people don’t find out that I have gained more strength.’

Shaking his head, he took one final glance at the square hole and sighed. "It’s still the same..."

He pushed the stone slab onto the hole and walked out of the cave.

Just as he stepped out, the scorched forest fell into his vision, and his gaze stilled on the massive pentacle etched onto the ground.

He stood staring at it for a few moments before he turned around and left the place.
