Traveler of the River of Time and Space-Chapter 453 - 53: Fireless Sacrificial Altar 2
Rumble.
In a burst of golden lightning, the figure of Hero Gu Da slowly fell.
"Gained 15 Source Power Value."
This battle was easier than Su Ziyu imagined, because Nun Fried was quite familiar with this enemy’s moves. She could not only predict his attacks but also remind Su Ziyu how to dodge.
It seems she really did fight this person before.
"What are you looking for?" Su Ziyu asked as he watched Nun Fried rummage through the corpse.
Nun Fried frowned and looked around, saying slowly, "The Spiral Sword."
The Spiral Sword was not here.
After being killed, Hero Gu Da’s body gradually turned into dust and dissipated; in Su Ziyu’s sight, there was only a glowing soul.
— "Soul of Hero Gu Da (Refinable): What awaits the late-coming hero is only the Fireless Sacrificial Altar and the silent bell. Refining yields 1500 Energy Value."
Su Ziyu examined the soul and said softly, "He seems to be the once chosen fire transmitter."
A late-coming hero?
Su Ziyu looked at the ruined walls around him and slowly pushed open the door ahead, revealing a winding path leading to the mountaintop.
"Let’s go."
"Ahead is the Fire Transmission Ritual Site," Nun Fried said softly.
The two continued to explore this unique area, and soon they encountered new enemies, all zombified knights clad in the armor of the Divine Race.
"The Divine Race here has been zombified for a long time," Su Ziyu said slowly.
"Yes." Nun Fried nodded, "In another Fire Transmission Ritual Site, there are no Divine Race nearby."
A few minutes later.
An ancient, decayed building appeared before them.
Nun Fried took the lead and went inside, mumbling to herself as she looked around, "It’s almost identical to the other Fire Transmission Ritual Site."
As she spoke, she approached the center of the ritual site, squatting in front of a central fire pit, and hesitantly said, "The flame here is already extinguished."
She picked up a broken, blackened blade and showed it to Su Ziyu, "The broken blade of the Spiral Sword."
— "The fragmented piece of the Spiral Sword (Mystical Artifact): The remnant of a bonfire that has completed its task, a fragment that coexists with the Spiral Sword. It can be used to return to the bonfire of the ritual site."
This fragment of the Spiral Sword still retained the power of flame.
"Be careful! Someone’s here!" Su Ziyu glanced around, suddenly sensing something, and spoke aloud.
There is someone here!
"Over there." Su Ziyu pointed to the top of the steps.
Nun Fried leapt up lightly, followed closely by Su Ziyu, and soon they saw an old woman sitting in a chair. She wore a gray, worn robe, her exposed facial features showing signs of zombification, yet she seemed to retain self-awareness, raising her head to look at them, and said slowly, "Oh my, oh my, how peculiar."
"The bell hasn’t rung, yet lost people have appeared."
Nun Fried examined the old woman from head to toe, leaning in to Su Ziyu’s ear and whispering, "She’s the maid of the Fire Transmission Ritual Site."
The entire ritual site was empty, save for this living person.
"What business do you have with this old woman?" the old woman before them asked without standing, looking up at them and muttering.
It seemed possible to communicate.
Curiously, Su Ziyu took a step forward and asked, "Where is this place?"
"The Fireless Sacrificial Altar," the old woman’s voice was a bit eerie, as though she had self-awareness, but the signs of zombification were quite severe.
"What about the Firekeeper?" Nun Fried observed her closely, as if judging something, then suddenly asked, "Why do you remain here?"
The old woman looked up at her and replied slowly, "I am the maid of the ritual site."
"Even if the flame is extinguished, I should not leave here."
"The Firekeeper?"
"The Firekeeper who has fulfilled her mission is naturally dead."
"Fireless cinders?"
"You shouldn’t stay here; there are missions outside that you need to complete."
After these words, the old woman fell silent, sitting motionless in her chair, seemingly losing all interest in communication.
She was a person waiting to die.
Su Ziyu could feel that her soul had long lost its luster.
"There is a blacksmith over there." Nun Fried glanced around, then turned to Su Ziyu, "Follow me."
She took several steps forward.
Once Su Ziyu caught up, she whispered, "I think I’ve recalled something."
"This was where the Undead first transmitted the fire."
Originally, the fire was transmitted by the Undead, later it was by the fireless cinders.
Nun Fried seemed to search for something as she explored the area. After a while, she suddenly struck the wall with her weapon, and the wall gradually vanished, revealing a mummified corpse of unknown age before them.
"The original Firekeeper." Nun Fried knelt beside the corpse, murmuring.
In silence.
She extracted a pair of crystallized eyeballs from the corpse, held them briefly in her hand, and then showed them to Su Ziyu.
— "Firekeeper’s Eyes (High Tier Mystical Artifact): Said to be the eyes of the original Firekeeper, from whom all subsequent Firekeepers lost their light. It is said to allow the Firekeeper to see what should not be seen."
Su Ziyu frowned and glanced at them, "What’s wrong with these eyeballs?"
