Traveler of the River of Time and Space-Chapter 375 - 3: Human Pus
This is what Su Ziyu currently understands about the situation.
However, there are still many things he is not clear about, such as where that ghastly substance called Human Pus came from, and why he would lose humanity upon entering this world.
This library holds no answers.
Ironically, it contains mostly records of something called ’Profound Darkness,’ along with numerous chilling horror stories. The members of the Church are also very strange; they can actually gain casting abilities by reading these stories about past terrifying beings.
Is this a faith based on ideals?
By immersing themselves in these terrifying entities, do they acquire some of their special powers?
It’s completely beyond comprehension.
Reading the Holy Scripture of Profound Darkness does not grant Su Ziyu any casting abilities; at most, it just gives him an eerie chill down his spine, perhaps because he simply doesn’t believe in anything related to Profound Darkness.
Near the monastery is a stretch of wilderness. 𝒻𝓇𝑒𝘦𝘸𝑒𝒷𝓃ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝒸ℴ𝘮
Further away lies a gray mist, enveloping the entire monastery which isn’t very large. There are no particularly troublesome monsters besides the abundance of graves. Su Ziyu retraced his steps to take down those kneeling undead; they were sluggish in their response, charging forward with ritual daggers, and were easily dispatched. There was no spiritual response at the altar; the most formidable presence in the monastery was probably that monster dressed like a bishop, along with the old matron who brought him here.
"Looks like I’ll need to explore the surrounding area."
Standing atop the mountaintop, Su Ziyu gazed afar, faintly seeing towering mountain ranges. At the foot of the monastery’s mountain, there are no human towns or villages, only scattered gravestones in the distance, ancient and possibly burial sites for countless souls.
If he counts a bit, there are thousands of tombstones nearby.
Once, many people must have been buried around here, as the tombstones appear to have been erected during a similar period.
Let’s find if there are any normal living people!
If this world has no normal living humans, then Su Ziyu needs to reassess its difficulty.
He carelessly took some books with him.
The monastery contains some gold and silver items, but Su Ziyu avoided taking them due to space concerns, and most things have rotted away. After circling around, he didn’t find anything particularly special, though he did pick up a ’Vanishing Priest’s Soul’ along the way.
In this plane, souls seem really to be found on the roadside.
No other strange artifacts discovered.
Weapons are mostly ordinary, with most heavily rusted and unusable; this place likely hasn’t seen outsiders for a long time. Moreover, Su Ziyu noticed there is virtually no food visible throughout the monastery; not even in the cellar, which held only abandoned corpses and thick dust. Outside the monastery surrounds a patch of land, but no crops are planted, with only dozens of scattered tombstones.
"Do they not need to eat anything?" Su Ziyu shook his head, unwilling to recall what the old matron was cooking in the pot.
The feeling wasn’t anything good.
The sky darkened.
As Su Ziyu prepared to leave the monastery to investigate outside, suddenly a figure carrying a great sword appeared within his sight. It was a slightly emaciated man, tall in stature, likely over two meters, though lacking much flesh. He wore a pointed hat on his head and beneath a gray cloak donned a suit of metal armor. After slightly bowing to Su Ziyu, he suddenly drew the great sword from his back and slowly said, "Unknown sovereign!"
"Hawkwood from Farron greets you!..."
Flames emerged from the great sword he held, accompanied by a heavy pressure. This man stepped closer, speaking deeply: "As an unkindled ash, please allow me to take your head."
