Tang Fei’s smile softened as she gazed at the photo on her phone screen, her fingertips hovering over the glowing display. "They’re adjusting and getting along well..." she murmured to herself, relief washing through her chest like a warm tide. Her thumb traced gentle circles over their pixelated faces, as if she could somehow reach through the glass to touch them.

If only I could give birth to such an adorable baby.

The thought arrived unbidden, and with it came a heaviness that settled in her stomach. Her smile faltered. Almost involuntarily, her fingers began typing into the search bar, hesitant at first, then with growing urgency. The question that had been gnawing at the edges of her mind for weeks now demanded answers: Why couldn’t she get pregnant?

Neither of them was using any form of contraception, she was certain of that. And yet, why couldn’t she. The way Huo Ting Cheng had phrased things earlier, that carefully controlled tone in his voice, suggested he knew something. Was there a problem with her? Or with him? The uncertainty made her throat tighten.

She’d barely begun reading the search results when the world suddenly tilted. Strong arms slipped beneath her, lifting her effortlessly from the couch.

"It’s so late. What are you doing?" Huo Ting Cheng’s deep voice rumbled against her ear as he cradled her against his chest. Before she could protest, he plucked the phone from her hands and tossed it carelessly onto the couch cushions. The device landed with a soft thud, screen still glowing with her unanswered questions.

He carried her to the bed with practiced ease, laying her down gently before sliding in beside her. The mattress dipped under his weight as he pulled the covers up over both of them, cocooning them in warmth. His arm came around her waist, securing her against him.

"Good night," he whispered, pressing a tender kiss to her forehead. His lips lingered there for a moment, and she could feel the tension in his body, the way his muscles had gone rigid the moment he’d noticed her absence from the bed. He’d panicked, she realized. Actually panicked at finding her gone.

Tang Fei exhaled audibly, her breath stirring the air between them. Instead of settling down, she shifted closer and kissed him softly on the cheek. Then her lips trailed lower, finding the sensitive spot on his neck that always made him inhale sharply. Her kisses became more insistent, more deliberate. She had to get pregnant during this honeymoon. She had to.

"Fei’er, stop..." His voice was strained as his hand came up to gently catch her wrist, halting her wandering fingers. "Get some sleep."

The rejection hit her like cold water. Tang Fei felt a flash of irritation surge through her, hot and sharp. Was he stopping her deliberately? What was he avoiding? Her mind raced with possibilities, each one worse than the last.

Or.... and this thought made her stomach clench, was she simply not attractive enough? Last night he’d been so passionate, so utterly consumed with desire for her. But now he seemed completely deflated, almost... reluctant. Had she done something wrong? Said something that turned him off?

"Ting Cheng..." Her voice came out hoarse, almost desperate. "I want you..." Her hands resumed their exploration, mapping the familiar terrain of his body with increasing urgency, trying to rekindle the fire from the night before.

"You’re still sore and still clamoring for more?" Huo Ting Cheng’s voice rumbled with amusement, though there was a strained quality beneath the teasing. His hand caught hers again, but more gently this time. "I went overboard yesterday. I don’t want to hurt you."

So that was it, he was being considerate. Tang Fei felt some of the tension leave her shoulders, though determination still burned in her chest.

"Why not?" she challenged, her voice taking on a shy, almost petulant quality. She wasn’t going to miss this chance, not when getting pregnant was so important. "You can’t really decline my request..."

There was a pause, heavy with unspoken meaning. Then Huo Ting Cheng’s voice came again, darker now, edged with resignation and something that might have been desire finally breaking through his careful control.

"All right..." He shifted beneath the covers, and she could feel the change in him, the surrender. "It’s there... You can claim it by yourself... I’m giving you a chance...."

The words hung in the air between them, an invitation, a challenge, and perhaps a test. Tang Fei’s heart began to race as she realized what he was offering: control, agency, the power to take what she wanted at her own pace. Her fingers traced a deliberate path down from his neck, feeling the strong, rapid pulse beneath his skin, a rhythm that betrayed his carefully maintained composure.

She pressed soft, exploratory kisses along the sharp line of his jaw, then descended to the hollow of his collarbone, savoring the slight saltiness of his skin.

"Fei’er..." His voice carried a warning note, low and throaty, but threaded through it was unmistakable anticipation, a barely restrained hunger that made her stomach flip.

She continued her exploration undeterred, her lips trailing lower with increasing confidence. Her fingers found the firm planes of his chest through the thin fabric of his sleep shorts, circling teasingly over sensitive points. Huo Ting Cheng’s breath hitched audibly, his entire body going tense beneath her deliberate touch, muscles coiling like springs ready to release.
