Chapter 373: Chapter 373; Building a future

And as the city lights glittered beyond the windows and the auditions continued in the halls below and the internet continued to lose its collective mind over their relationship, Tang Fei and Huo Ting Cheng sat together in their office-turned-sanctuary and simply existed in each other’s presence.

Building an empire.

Building a future.

Building a love story that would outlast them both.

One selfie, one kiss, one shared dream at a time.

And really, what more could anyone ask for?

[Outside the office, Huo Wu checked his phone]

Huo Zhen: How long should we give them?

Huo Wu: Another hour, minimum. They’re in the ’disgustingly in love’ phase.

Huo Zhen: I’ve never seen the boss like this.

Huo Wu: Neither have I. It’s... actually kind of nice?

Huo Zhen: Agreed. Also terrifying. But mostly nice.

Huo Wu: Definitely don’t mention that we think it’s nice.

Huo Zhen: Absolutely not. I value my life.

Huo Wu: Smart man.

[They continued their vigil outside, protecting their boss’s rare moment of happiness]

[And inside, in the warm glow of the office, love continued to bloom]

The audition halls began to empty as it was finally the end of the auditions. Through the videos and livestream, they could see everything getting wrapped up, contestants leaving with varying expressions of hope and exhaustion, staff members collecting equipment, and judges filing out with their evaluation sheets.

Tang Fei didn’t want to get up from his lap, and Huo Ting Cheng didn’t want to stop holding her intimately. His arms remained wrapped around her waist, his chin resting comfortably on her shoulder as they watched the final moments of the day’s proceedings on the tablet screen.

"All right, it’s time to head home," Tang Fei finally said, though reluctance colored her tone. "I feel really exhausted..."

She stretched herself out of his arms, rising from his lap with a soft groan. Her muscles protested after sitting in the same position for hours, but it had been worth it, the warmth, the closeness, the shared experience of building something together.

Huo Ting Cheng immediately stood up as well, his hand finding the small end of her back automatically. "How about you don’t work tomorrow and stay at home? You know you don’t have to do anything. You can rest and be carefree at home, you can leave all this for me to handle...."

This was the reason he had hated the idea of her working, he didn’t want to see her exhausting herself for no good reason when he had enough money to feed her for eternity, pushing her body past its limits when she didn’t need to.

"And stay at home doing what?" Tang Fei countered, stretching her arms above her head. She didn’t like that boring kind of life. The kids would be at school, and the entire mansion would be too empty, with only servants moving through the quiet rooms. No way. She needed to keep herself busy, to feel productive and purposeful.

"Yeah! You can just watch movies, eat, and sleep... It’s not a must to do anything productive. Being pretty for me is already enough..." He walked over to his office chair and settled down, picking up some files he would need to handle back at home through the night before sleeping. He began packing them into his briefcase with practiced efficiency.

At that moment, Secretary Li walked in with Huo Qi, Huo Wu, and Huo Zhen following behind him.

"Ting Cheng, you didn’t work on the files I sent over since morning!" Secretary Li’s voice carried clear annoyance. "It’s best if you don’t even come to the office if you’re going to accomplish absolutely nothing!"

He’d thought his boss’s presence today would at least lighten his burdens, but no, Huo Ting Cheng had done absolutely nothing work-related at all. Just sat there holding his wife like a possessive octopus for hours.

"You can find more workers to assist you, you know!" Huo Ting Cheng muttered back begrudgingly, also annoyed. "I want to stay at home."

"Geez! You need to deal with those files, don’t be like that!" Tang Fei chimed in, glaring at Huo Ting Cheng. What was there to do back home anyway? He should at least handle his responsibilities.

"Missus, you really understand me better than him," Secretary Li said gratefully as he passed some additional files over to Huo Ting Cheng vividly with a mocking expression on his face. "I have a meeting in the next twenty or thirty minutes with Huo Tong. I want to hear what they discussed in that Summit... So I might go back later than usual. Be safe on your way."

He exited, walking toward the elevator with some of the guards, leaving the building and driving away into the night.

"Tomorrow, let Huo Wu conduct the auditions," Huo Ting Cheng said thoughtfully. "We will stay at home resting."

This was for the best, he decided. After what had happened that morning at the school, after the chaos and the threats, it was better if she could stay home where she’d be safe.

"Geez! You can do that by yourself, don’t drag me into it..." Tang Fei muttered in annoyance before an idea struck her. She walked over to his desk and sat on it seductively, crossing her legs. "Unless you give me a baby, I can stay back home willingly. I won’t have time to move around... What do you think, hubby?"

She gently caressed his chin with her fingers, her eyes playful and challenging.

"Hehehe... Finish packing up," he said, softly giggling as he brushed her hand away. He had never thought of getting her pregnant once again after that traumatic experience... and it was never going to happen, not when the world was still too dangerous, not when threats still lurked around every corner.

"Tsk..." She hopped off the desk and went back to the table, continuing to pack her things.

But as she reached for her laptop to close it, a notification popped up in her email. She paused, fingers hovering over the keyboard, then quickly clicked to see what it contained.
