Transmigration; A Mother's Redemption and a perfect Wife.-Chapter 345; Mental breakdown 1
His voice dropped, becoming chillingly calm, the calm of absolute, unshakeable conviction. "This... caging her, as you call it... was the only mercy I could give her. I wiped the slate clean. I gave her a new life, a safe one, protected from the monsters of her past. Including the one in her own mind."
The confession seemed to unleash something darker in him. The protective love twisted, morphing into something possessive and maniacal. "And now, she’s being threatened again. We still haven’t found everyone responsible for that night. Letting her have this freedom... it was a mistake."
He stared down at Tang Fei’s sleeping form, his expression one of terrifying devotion... "It was best when she was hidden. Safe within the mansion walls. Where I could watch over every breath she took. I never should have let her out. I never should have let this world touch her again."
The air in the room grew cold. Huo Ting Cheng’s logic, born from trauma, was curdling into a dangerous obsession. The idea of reviving her gilded cage was no longer a past necessity, but a future imperative in his eyes.
Huo Wu and Huo Qi exchanged a swift, horrified glance. This wasn’t the strategic, controlled leader they knew. This was something else, a man teetering on the edge, ready to burn the world down and lock away the one he loved in the ashes, all in the name of protecting her. A shiver of genuine fear went through them both. They were no longer facing an external threat; they were witnessing the rise of a far more dangerous one from within.
"Go and bring her entire family and hold them up... I want to deal with them, probably they could be the ones behind all this!" One thing he knew perfectly well was that the family he had chased and banned from entering this city could do nothing to deal with her.
They were the ones who knew what had happened back then, and if it was a psychological attack, they could be the ones behind it all.
"But you do know, she always protected them, we can’t do that...." Huo Qi was suddenly horrified, another possible fight was blooming. They were already safe and worked on their relationship, so why did he want them to go back to those years?
Huo Ting Cheng’s eyes turned icy, his voice dropping to a dangerous whisper. "I don’t recall asking for your opinion, Huo Qi. I gave you an order."
"Sixth Master..."
"Make sure those parasites are flown back into this city by dawn," Huo Ting Cheng cut him off, each word precise and lethal. "Every single one of them. I want them in the basement interrogation rooms before the sun rises. No excuses. No delays."
Huo Qi’s jaw tightened, his mind racing for any argument that might penetrate the madness he was witnessing.
"Sixth Master, please think this through. The Tang family, yes, they’re despicable, yes, they betrayed her, but bringing them here now, didn’t you think... It’s reckless. It’s....."
"It’s necessary," Huo Ting Cheng stated flatly, turning back to his desk. His fingers flew across the keyboard, pulling up files, locations, and surveillance data. "They know what happened that night. They were there. They orchestrated it. If someone is trying to trigger her memories, who better to suspect than the people who created those memories in the first place?"
"Then investigate them remotely!" Huo Qi’s voice rose slightly, desperation creeping in. "We can monitor their communications, track their movements, and infiltrate them without ever bringing them near her. Sixth Master, you know what will happen if she finds out. If she discovers you’ve imprisoned her family....."
"She won’t find out."
The certainty in those four words sent a chill down Huo Qi’s spine.
"What?" he heavily breathed.
Huo Ting Cheng looked up, his expression eerily calm. "She won’t find out because you’re going to make sure of it. You, Huo Wu, and everyone involved will ensure that this operation remains completely invisible to her."
Huo Wu stepped forward, his voice carefully measured. "And if she asks about them? Because...."
"She won’t! It’s been months now, and I haven’t heard her ask or talk about anything concerning the Tang family since the day I buried her sister alive. She doesn’t need to know anything. This time round, I will eliminate them all...."
The words hung in the air like a death sentence. Buried her sister alive. The casual way he said it, as if discussing a routine business transaction, made Huo Qi’s blood run cold.
"Sixth Master..." Huo Wu’s voice was barely a whisper.
"What?" Huo Ting Cheng’s eyes were glacial as he turned to face them fully. "You think I’ve forgotten what that little snake did? How she fed Tang Fei lies, manipulated her, used her as a pawn in their schemes?" His lips curved into something that might have been a smile but held no warmth. "No, I made sure she understood the consequences of her actions. The rest of them got off easy: exile and financial ruin. But they’re still breathing. Still scheming."
He moved away from the desk, his footsteps echoing in the vast space as he approached Tang Fei’s sleeping form. His hand reached out, fingers ghosting over her peaceful face with a tenderness that contradicted the violence in his words.
"Look at her," he said softly, reverently. "So beautiful. So fragile, just like porcelain that could shatter at the slightest touch." His hand stilled, cupping her cheek. "The world is too harsh for something so precious. Too dangerous and too cruel for her. She is so naive and kind."
Huo Qi felt his stomach turn. This wasn’t love, this was something twisted, something sick masquerading as devotion.
"I should never have let her out, to begin with." Huo Ting Cheng continued, his voice taking on a dreamlike quality. "The mansion was a perfect sanctuary for her. Every corner monitored, every window secured, every door locked. She had everything she needed. Comfort, safety, luxury, and even me." He looked up at them, and in his eyes was something terrifyingly close to madness. "She wasn’t happy there but at least safe."
