Transmigrating to the BeastWorld,I Picked Up an Adorable BeastHusband!-Chapter 50: The style squad(1)
She smiled slightly.
"Thank you. You sound just like my mum, she would have said the same thing."
She could see Weijie’s expressions clearly, a mix of anticipation and fear.
Grabbing his hand gently, she smiled giving him the approving nod he was looking for.
"I’m ready.." she whispered, more to herself than to Weijie. "I think."
Weijie knelt before her, his large hand resting on her knee and the other holding her hand tightly.
The movement was so natural it startled her.
This man who never bowed to anyone, who stood straight even before elders, who met every gaze head-on as though daring the world to challenge him, now lowered himself onto one knee like it was the most obvious thing in the world.
"I’m nothing but an ordinary man, who was lucky enough to meet you. I have neither gold nor precious gems to give you. But my heart, my life, my entire being...I give it all to you."
His thumb tightened unconsciously around her hand.
"Tomorrow, in front of my brothers, and invited tribes I will take your hand and we will become husband and wife. I will cherish, protect you and care for you for as long as I live. So please, never leave me....I will work hard to be a husband worthy of you."
His gaze lifted to hers.
There was no dominance in it.
No command.
Only naked sincerity.
"Weijie..." she started, her voice trembling slightly. She squeezed his hand, her thumb stroking the rough, calloused skin of his palm.
"You don’t need gold or gems. You’ve already given me more than I ever expected to find here. You gave me a home when I was lost. You gave me a reason to keep fighting."
He never once judged or mocked her for her weight, that was enough for her to feel his sincerity.
She leaned forward, pressing her forehead against his, closing her eyes to feel the steady warmth radiating from him. "I’m not going anywhere. We’ll work hard together, okay? You’re already more than worthy."
Weijie let out a breath he seemed to have been holding for a lifetime.
He leaned into her touch, his grip on her hand tightening as if anchoring himself to her.
The silence in the cave was thick, filled with the weight of a promise that didn’t need a marriage license or a diamond ring to be real.
[Okay, that was... surprisingly touching,] Doudou whispered, his voice uncharacteristically soft.
[My emotional sensors just spiked into the red. You really found a good one, Dumpling. A bit possessive, sure, but a man who admits his vulnerability like that? That’s rarer than any man you’d find in modern times. A man who wears his heart on his sleeves]
Weijie eventually pulled back, though he didn’t let go of her hand. His blue eyes had regained their focus, though the tenderness remained.
He stood up, towering over her once more, but the air between them had shifted from tension to a deep, quiet understanding.
"What do you like to eat? I’ll skin the mountain goat now and roast it.." Weijie was already walked to the animal laying limp on the stone table.
Ningning agreed, they could eat it with the left over mashed potatoes.
She had kept the leftovers in her space.
"That sounds nice."
Weijie smiled as he brought out his knife.
"The females will soon come for you."
-_-
Ningning raised a brow, why would they be coming for her?
"You must be confused. The females will help you make a dress for the ceremony. I picked the best mammoth hides for my mate. After all I took my time to take down the best one back then, awaiting a mate fitting its caliber."
Ningning felt her eyes widen.
A mammoth?
A mammoth? These were one of the biggest mammals to walk the planet.
The fact that Weijie had taken one down alone was a testament to his skill, but the fact that he had saved the hide for years, waiting for a woman he deemed "worthy" sent a fresh wave of warmth through her chest.
"You’ve been keeping a mammoth hide... just for me?" she asked, her voice soft with wonder.
Weijie didn’t look up from the goat, his knife moving with practiced, fluid efficiency. "Not for ’you’ specifically." he admitted with that blunt honesty she had come to expect. "I kept it for my mate, the female I would spend my life with and then I found you, just when I had began to think the hide would rot away."
[A bespoke mammoth-fur wedding gown,] Doudou chimed in, sounding impressed.
[Talk about high-end prehistoric fashion. That hide is thick, Ningning. It’ll be heavy, but it’ll definitely make a statement when you walk into that valley. You’ll look like a queen or at least, the most imposing woman they ever saw.]
Ningning felt her cheeks heat up. In her world, "imposing" was a word used to describe skyscrapers or intimidating bosses, but in Doudou’s synthetic tone, it sounded like the ultimate compliment.
"Is it really okay for me to wear it?" Ningning asked, watching the firelight dance across Weijie’s focused features. "A mammoth hide... it sounds so important. Almost like a prized possession."
Weijie paused his carving, the blade of his knife glistening. He looked over his shoulder at her, his expression softening. "It’s nothing much, Ningning. But at the same time,it is a promise. I hunted that beast when I was many winters younger, at the risk of my own life, so that my mate would never feel the bite of the mountain’s cold. To see you wear it... it means the promise is finally kept."
He turned back to the meat, but his voice carried a hint of a smile. "Besides, only someone with your statue could carry the weight of such a hide. A Fox female would disappear inside it. But you, you will look beautiful and outshine them all.."
Ningning let out a soft laugh, the image of a tiny, lithe Fox woman being swallowed by a massive fur coat playing in her mind.
[Warning,] Doudou interjected, his voice returning to its usual rhythmic pace. [I’m detecting multiple bio-signatures approaching the cave entrance. It looks like the ’Style Squad’ has arrived.]
