Seeing that all the girls were looking at him, Gu Yang promoted her sister’s skincare products.
Her complexion was naturally fair, and the reason she never tanned was due to the effectiveness of her sister’s sunscreen.
In the afternoon, Gu Yang returned to her dormitory to organize her belongings. Just as she was about to leave, she spotted Tong Jiayin bringing a box of Good skincare products into the dormitory.
The logo on the box was conspicuous, impossible to miss.
Tong Jiayin instinctively covered the logo. “This was a gift from my brother. I wouldn’t purchase trendy internet celebrity products that have only been on the market for a few years.”
Gu Yang looked puzzled but played along, choosing not to expose Tong Jiayin’s obvious fabrication.
Apart from their initial conflict at the start of the school year, Tong Jiayin and Gu Yang had been living peacefully since then.
Tong Jiayin felt Gu Yang’s response was perfunctory. Once Gu Yang left the dormitory, Tong Jiayin eagerly opened the box to try the skincare products and sunscreen inside.
After a week of relentless sunshine, heavy rain finally arrived in the capital.
The downpour intensified. Xiao Yize decided to cancel military training for the Physics Department students due to the rain. Instead, he gathered everyone in the classroom for a theoretical military class.
Gu Yang pulled Gu Jin to sit in the first row.
At first, Gu Jin listened nonchalantly, but as Xiao Yize’s lecture progressed, she became increasingly attentive.
Xiao Yize’s lecture wasn’t dull. He shared many stories about his comrades in the army, making the content engaging.
The rain continued through the night. Seeing that everyone was exhausted from the military training, Xiao Yize gave them a rare break and asked everyone to settle their affairs in the dormitory.
At the restaurant.
Fu Mingxiu was brought out by Madam Fu to have dinner with Tang Shiya and discuss the engagement.
Madam Fu had always wanted to settle the matter quickly, but Fu Mingxiu had been dragging his feet. Now, he was finally willing to meet Tang Shiya.
In the private room, Tang Shiya acted naturally and gracefully. Despite Fu Mingxiu’s poor mood, she maintained her composure.
Madam Fu had always been very satisfied with Tang Shiya.
She was a lady from a wealthy family—magnanimous, intelligent, and cunning. She wasn’t a naive girl; she was a perfect candidate to be the family’s matriarch.
Other than greeting him when he arrived, Fu Mingxiu remained silent, drinking heavily.
Madam Fu frowned and nudged him with her elbow. “Mingxiu, do you think it’s better to get engaged in Jin City on National Day or during the summer break? It will give our families time to prepare if we discuss it now.”
Fu Mingxiu suddenly stood up and declared to Tang Shiya, “We’re not getting engaged anymore.”
Tang Shiya’s smile froze, and she clenched the cup in her hand. “Why?”
“I don’t like you.”
With those words, he turned on his heel and walked out of the private room.
Madam Fu’s expression turned icy. “Fu Mingxiu, come back here!”
Fu Mingxiu didn’t look back.
Madam Fu seethed with anger.
Tang Shiya felt a twinge of irritation, though she kept her composure in front of Madam Fu. “Auntie, this marriage is significant for both our families.”
“But Mingxiu’s feelings matter too. If it’s not meant to be, let’s call off the engagement. I will inform my parents about the Tang family’s decision.”
Tang Shiya had a favorable impression of Fu Mingxiu, but she wasn’t willing to sacrifice her dignity as a young lady from a prestigious family to appease him.
She wasn’t concerned about mutual affection; such marriages among the affluent rarely relied on love.
However, both families had already agreed upon the engagement. For Tang Shiya, Fu Mingxiu’s sudden rejection was deeply humiliating.
