Chapter 80: Chapter 80: Harvest of Darkness

His vision blurred for a moment as he sank into the shimmering blue portal.

Just as his eyes regained focus, his feet dropped to the ground, a slight gasp slipping past his lips.

"Incredible."

Unlike the Wolf Den dungeon that was a maze lit up with torches, this was entirely different.

As far as the eye could see stretched vast terrain of shifting landscapes. It was almost like a whole new world!

Taking in a sharp breath, a faint smile spread across his face as he snapped out of his daze.

"This ought to be fun," he muttered, tightening his grip over the scythe in his hand as he made his way forward.

Almost a few hundred meters ahead, he came into sight of the first monsters. Goblins!

Barely over one meter tall, their skin was green, with little hideous faces and green orbs for eyes. Numbering around four, they were currently pacing around mindlessly until they sensed his presence and charged at him.

Claws extending from their little arms, he looked down, the smile on Ulric’s face widening.

"Interesting." He had supposed that the stronger the beasts, the higher their sentience would be. But that didn’t seem the case, he mused, looking into their soulless eyes.

But that didn’t matter. Just as they crossed the ten-meter range, he slowly pointed his fingers at them.

Instantly after, trails of darkness oozed out before coalescing into small dark spectral blades that lodged deep into their necks, slicing their heads off.

Green blood gushed out for a few seconds before their lifeless bodies fell to the ground as a slew of notifications filled his vision.

[Ding! You have killed a Level 26 Low-Level Goblin! + 30,000 experience points!]

[Ding! You have killed a Level 27 Low-Level Goblin! + 35,000 experience points!]

[Ding! You have killed a Level 28 Low-Level Goblin! + 40,000 experience points!]

[Ding! You have killed a Level 26 Low-Level Goblin! + 30,000 experience points!]

Nodding slightly at the notifications, he waved his hand, causing the darkness oozing out of him to rush out in waves, wrapping around their dead bodies before fully absorbing them as another pile of notifications flared.

[Ding! Your darkness has devoured a Level 26 Low-Level Goblin’s corpse! You have gained 26 attributes.]

[Ding! Your darkness has devoured a Level 28 Low-Level Goblin’s corpse! You have gained 28 attributes.]

[...]

[Total unallocated attributes: 107]

Barely a moment after the notifications blinked before him, he dumped all the free attributes into Spirit.

Instantly after, dark energy imploded from his body as his eyes lit up with a golden hue for a few seconds.

When it receded, a feral grin lay plastered across his face as he exhaled,

"Finally!"

Previously, with all the stats he dumped into it, his spiritual field had been bordering around ninety meters.

With this last push, it had finally expanded to cover a hundred-meter radius.

Making everything crystal clear. Any beast or opponent that dared challenge him while within that range would have already lost before the battle even began. Unless they far exceeded his power level.

The thought alone elicited a faint chuckle from him, before his gaze suddenly dropped to his scythe. It didn’t look very excited when facing the goblins.

Any time he was facing enemies, it would already have rushed out into battle.

"You aren’t growing picky, are you?" Ulric muttered.

His eyes lighting up faintly as its description came into view.

[Corrupted Blood Scythe]

A weapon forged by the blood and energy of the Sanguine Blood Wolf, refined by its bloodline to form a great weapon.

(Ability: Life Steal — With every life the Blood Scythe reaps, 1% of the life force will be stolen and imbued into the wielder.)

Watching it buzz in defeat, his fingers reached to rub the bridge of his nose.

Good. He was already threatening his weapon. What was next? 𝓯𝙧𝓮𝓮𝒘𝓮𝙗𝙣𝒐𝒗𝒆𝓵.𝓬𝓸𝒎

Dismissing the thought, he rushed forward, his eyes narrowing slightly. He didn’t have time for this.

As his figure streaked across the forest, he soon came upon another group of goblins.

These ones much bigger than before, towering over two meters tall, muscles bulging across their frames.

Their numbers exceeded ten. When they turned to stare at him, this time he could sense a glimmer of intelligence.

But not enough to save them as they charged forward, growls tearing from their throats.

Not waiting for them to get close, he flicked his hand, sending the scythe flying out, leaving a blood-red sheen in its trail.

And before the goblins could realize what was happening, sickening slicing sounds echoed as their heads fell to the ground, notifications flaring before him.

[Ding! You have killed a Level 32 Goblin! + 45,000 experience points!]

When the last goblin collapsed to the ground, the scythe rushed back into his arms as warm energy flowed into his body in soothing waves.

Any hidden injuries he had sustained slowly healed, making him breathe in pleasure. Looking at the carnage, he waved his hand, letting the darkness devour their corpses before rushing deeper and repeating the same process.

Despite their levels or numbers, their lives were all reaped the same by his scythe, and before long he understood why the scythe didn’t buzz excitedly as it did before.

The beasts were just too weak. And before long, he grew tired of their weakness.

His figure streaked through the forest. Whenever he met goblins, his scythe combined with blades of darkness would easily pierce into them, killing them before they even knew how they died.

If it wasn’t for his darkness devouring their corpses, only a bloody carnage would have been left behind.

When he stepped ten thousand meters deep into the dungeon, he felt a sudden pressure crash into him.

It of course caused him no strain, but the change seemed to have affected the goblins living this deep, as when he encountered them, his brows couldn’t help but furrow slightly.

Up ahead, monstrous goblins stood, their frames towering over seven meters. Each with humongous clubs clutched in their arms, each step they took causing the ground to tremble violently.

A quick scan with his appraisal caused his face to ease up a little.

[Level 45 Arc Demon Goblin]

When they noticed him, they didn’t charge immediately, inspecting him for a moment before rushing toward him.

Only this time, a glint of contempt flashing across their faces as they seethed with rage. Something so small dared enter their territory?

Seeing all this, Ulric smiled faintly. When the scythe buzzed, just about to slice into them as it had all other monsters, he stopped it before flicking his wrist.

Not that it was necessary, but just for the flair of it. Instantly after, since he entered the dungeon, he deployed his aura as it crashed into them.

Giving them no chance to resist as they were instantly forced to their knees, causing him to shake his head slightly.

They couldn’t even withstand a tinge of it, but it was to be expected. While their appearances might have seemed frightening, he could almost smell the weakness reeking out of them.

Not giving them a chance to react, a film of darkness spread across his palm as he slashed off their heads one by one until they were all dead.

[Ding! You have killed a Level 45 Arc Demon Goblin. + 75,000 experience points!]

[Ding! You have killed a Level 45 Arc Demon Goblin. + 75,000 experience points!]

[Ding! You have leveled up!]

[Ding! You have leveled up!]

[Ding! Your darkness has devoured a Level 45 Arc Demon Goblin. + 45 attributes.]

Lifting his gaze, Ulric’s figure bolted into the distance, where he felt the strongest presence.

It was time to end this.
