Chapter 60: A run away mother.

It seemed like a joke, but Sienna commanded the guards to see Lady Cadelaria off. And when she refused to leave, Sienna threatened to call the press and make it a big deal.

Lady Cadelaria, who cared so much about the public image of the Veythar’s, chose to retreat. Elias escorted her away to the cottage by the beach where his father was waiting outside with tissues and wine.

Lord Marius sighed when his wife threw herself into his arms, bawling loudly, "She treated me so awfully, called me names and threw me out. She took my grand babies, I am banned from her home. Sienna Miller is the worst. I can’t wait for Elias to divorce her."

Lord Marius patted her back. "There, there." He had long seen this day coming when Eli started crying for his mother and being jealous over her relationship with Ali. Sooner or later, they boy was bound to go and live with his mother.

Considering the relationship between his wife and Sienna, he had also had a feeling that something like this would happen. "Gael had agreed to wed," he comforted her. "He is wedding the daughter of Lord Barka, the tiger lord. You will have more cubs to pamper next year."

He was expecting joy, instead, she cried even more.

Meanwhile, Elias decided to leave for the inner city. He needed to talk to his brother about this sudden marriage and also handle all the important things he had on his list.

One of those things was figuring out how to be a better father and change his son’s attitude for the better. He had always just assumed Eli would outgrow it. Apparently, that was not how things worked.

He sighed, thinking about the stressful morning he had endured. First the royals, then the argument between his wife and mother. Would they ask him to pick sides as well?

He pictured himself in the middle of them, the way Eli had been as they struggled for the child. The thought made him shudder.

Back at the cottages, the Miller’s were facing a new challenge. It seemed like the beast gods had united and decided to make the day a difficult one for them. Two little girls had been handed over to a guard at the the foot path leading up to the cottages.

The guard had just delivered them to Mrs. Miller like parcels!

"What is this?" Sienna asked.

Mrs. Miller took a break from comforting Eli to staring at the two girls. Both of them had Paris’s eyes. They looked so much like their father!

"Mama!" they cried out in unison, voices high and determined.

Sienna blinked. They were looking right at her mother. "Excuse me? That’s my mother." Paris’s daughters were just like him, they had no shame!

But the girls were relentless. "She our mom too now," The older declared, chin lifted with nine-year-old authority. "Our real mom said so."

Mrs. Miller looked bewildered, silk handkerchief trembling in her hand. "Girls, you must be mistaken. Truly, I am not your mother."

The young one rushed over and clung tightly to Mrs. Miller’s thigh. "Don’t send us away, don’t abandon us. Mom, we love you!"

The older girl did the same thing, hugging Mrs. Miller and crying loudly. Her cries were filled with fear and exhaustion, just like Eli’s had been.

Sienna rubbed her temples. "Oh, wonderful. Now, my mother’s been hijacked." She pulled the guard aside and asked for an explanation. "How did you end up with the girls?" 𝚏𝕣𝐞𝗲𝐰𝕖𝐛𝐧𝕠𝕧𝚎𝚕.𝐜𝚘𝗺

The fox beast man blinked, confused as well because he had been assured that Mrs. Miller was expecting the girls. "A woman brought them over and just handed them to me. She said that your mother was already aware of the situation and she was taking in the girls. I think she said something about re-marriage and they couldn’t go with her."

Sienna turned to the girls. "Your real mother is getting married again!"

The nine year old nodded. Tears slipping from her eyes. "Papa is dead, mama doesn’t want us anymore. She said her new husband said we would be burdens." Her fingers gripped the apron Mrs. Miller had tied around her waist. "She said you were papa’s wife too, and that makes you our first mother. Mama, don’t reject us too."

Mrs. Miller tapped the girls on their heads, softly, trying to comfort them. "What do we do Sienna?" she asked anxiously.

The guard touched his pocket and handed Sienna a paper. "Oh, I forgot about this. Their mother asked me to give it to you, Mrs. Miller."

Sienna snatched it. It was a guardianship document, signed, notarized and dated before the Rocland’s even set off for this city.

Soren had been listening quietly, but he snatched the paper from Sienna because he just couldn’t keep his curiosity at bay. After perusing through it, his eyes widened. "She gave custody of the sisters to our mom!"

Mrs. Miller groaned.

"This was signed on the very day our father died!" Soren was exasperated. "It is legal, so legal that their own mother will need to got to court first if she ever wants to take them back."

The girls sobbed even harder.

Sienna found the nearest chair and she sat down. Paris Rocland was dead and yet he was still screwing her mother over. He had left her raise two children on her own, and now, she would have to raise two more for him! She shook her head. It wasn’t fair to her mother. They needed to track down this woman and make her take responsibility for her children.

If not, the Rocland elders needed to step up and raise their grandchildren.

"My lady, we should send the rest of the Rocland’s away. One of them has already schemed against you and your mother. Her intentions for coming were obviously to deliver the children here. Who knows what else the rest of them are scheming?" Shalin muttered softly, from the side. She was close enough to whisper the words because she did not want the children’s feeling to be hurt.

Sienna decided there and then, that she was not going to wait for the schemes to be uncovered one by one. They were going to lay everything out in the open today. "Shalin, have the guards bring the Rocland’s over. It is time to settle their affairs."
