Chapter 45: Still the King’s game.

Two couples were left at the table, staring tensely at each other. Sienna had no idea how things were going to proceed. All the gifts she had brought as part of her apology tour were likely going to go home with her.

But, something odd happened. As soon as the door closed and the footsteps of the royal couple faded, Lord Fox and Lord mouse laughed. Even Lady Mouse was smiling. Only Sienna maintained a lost look on her face.

"Am I missing something?" she asked curiously.

Elias gestured to the beast mouse couple, "Sienna, let me introduce you. These are the Cheddarleigh’s and contrary to what everyone assumes, we are not filled with hatred and loathing for each other. We are business men who seek to profit together and we already worked this out this issue privately."

Sienna’s jaw dropped. And then fury rushed through her blood. She hit Elias on the shoulder gently with her palm. "You worked it out! And you just let me sit here and sweat for nothing! I could kill you right now."

Lady Cheddarleigh looked at Elias pitifully. "You are going to have to have to get your wife a governess if she is to mingle in our society. Her frankness is appreciated but costly. Threatening to kill a beast man is a crime in itself, even if it is a joke."

Sienna gasped.

Elias sighed. His wife’s language was costly indeed, and he had paid the right price to sweep this incident under the rug.

"How?" Sienna asked. "I obviously don’t mean that I am going to kill him truly."

"But someone could take advantage of your joke and do the job. Then you end up being branded as a killer and thrown in prison." Lady Cheddarleigh informed Sienna. "Also, a human threatening to kill a beast man in any way is not smiled upon."

Sienna sighed. She could see why everyone wanted a beast gene. Truly, there were classes here and humans were second class citizens.

Elias rose, and the other couple did the same. Only Sienna remained on her feet because she didn’t know what was to happen next.

"We should leave before he returns." Lady Cheddarleigh said.

"Who?" Sienna asked.

Elias offered her his hand, and helped her up. "The King. If he hears laughter, he will back here quicker than a bird snatching fish from the sea."

"He is a peculiar one." Lord Cheddarleigh shook his head.

Lady Cheddarleigh chuckled. "Did you see how his eyes kept moving to the tea and snacks." She covered her mouth to soften her squeaky, but kind of lady like giggles. "He was hoping to see one of us throw it in another’s face. I knew he was up to no good when he invited us over to solve our grudge."

Elias tugged on Elias’s arm, forcing her to take steps towards the door. Sienna walked on, but she kept looking back. "So, does this mean you are not offended by what I said?" 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝐰𝚎𝕓𝐧𝚘𝘃𝗲𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝕞

Lady Cheddarleigh raised her thin brows, "Oh, I was offended. But make no mistake, I am not some weak, emotional, beast woman. That is not how you become the wife of a beast lord. If someone dares to call me mouse beast bitch, I will have something to say about it. Like the tiger beast woman who said to me while I was shopping. I called her a stripped bitch. You should have seen the jaws of the other shoppers drop."

Even Sienna’s jaw dropped. "Stripped bitch! Nice one." She laughed.

"I told her she was not even as pretty in stripes as a zebra." Lady Cheddarleigh added in a whisper.

Sienna chuckled louder.

Elias cleared his throat, a direct request for her to tone down the laughter.

Lady Cheddarleigh dropped her husband’s arm, rushed to Sienna and pulled her away from Elias. "Elias, if you want to bore someone, do it yourself or my husband. Sienna and I have much to talk about." She pulled her ahead, leaving the men to walk behind them. "I saw that footage of you firing those fox hussies..."

Elias cleared his throat.

Lady Cheddarleigh swiftly turned her head and sent Elias a look that said ’one more time and I will teach you a lesson.’

Sienna was shocked. Lady Mouse was not as frightened around her husband like most beast men and women.

"They are hussies Elias." Lady Cheddarleigh declared. "I was at that hotel last year and I saw some of those female foxes lifting their tails around you and swaying their hips." Her nose twitched in disgust, "They know you are married and still, they have no self respect."

"I didn’t give them any attention." Elias responded stiffly.

"Oh I know." Lady Cheddarleigh laughed. "It is your only saving grace." She pulled Sienna closer. "You were right to fire them, most are hired for their looks not talent. I think more hotels on the beast continent should come to their senses. Like you said, the first impression is all that matters."

Sienna nodded. "In everything."

"Now tell me about the pan." Lady Cheddarleigh squeaked delightfully. "It has sort of become a mythical weapon on BeastNet. Some say it weighs heavier than a man and you can carry it around easily because of your special weight. Is that true?"

Sienna exclaimed. "Hell no! It is an ordinary pan meant for frying eggs and other things."

Lady Cheddarleigh gasped. "But it took down a fox beast woman. You beat her until she bled."

They reached the outer area of the palace, in the courtyard where their flying ships were waiting. Sienna had never been so glad to see a flying ship in her life.

"That’s because I caught her off guard." Sienna replied softly. "Trust me, if she had been prepared, I would have been defeated. That is why I am planning to start taking some self defense classes soon."

Both women stopped walking, but Sienna’s arm remained trapped.

"I have one final question for you. There is a rumor going around that you are getting divorced. Is it true?" Lady Cheddarleigh leaned closer to Sienna, looking into her eyes.

Sienna smiled confidently and replied, "Would I be reeking of Elias if I was?"

Lady Cheddarleigh threw her head back and laughed.

The gifts Sienna had brought for the lady Mouse were offloaded from the ship and transferred to the Cheddarleigh ship. Then, the fox lord and lady set off.

Lord and Lady Cheddarleigh remained back, with the lady having a word with one of the Queen’s personal attendants. "Tell the Queen that I have failed to get any information out of Lady fox. Her lips are as tight as her husband’s."

"What a sly couple." Lord Cheddarleigh murmured.

His wife laughed. "I bet he scented her deliberately. The king will have to keep trying harder if he wants to see Elias losing his cool."
