Chapter 30: Punishments and demands.

At the entrance of the house, Elias paused, turning to Shalin and Kroton. "Go and get your punishment. I told you to keep your lady out of trouble, not encourage her to kick up a storm."

Shalin bowed. "Yes my lord."

Sienna quickly stepped in front of the servant. "Elias what do you mean by punishment? What did they do wrong except protect me verbally and keep me company?" She imagined them being whipped or slapped like it was done in costume dramas. The thought made her gasp, and she looked at her husband in horror, as if he was a beast. "You want to whip them! I won’t let you do it."

Elias’s sharp eyes flicked to Shalin. The servant grabbed her son’s hand and hightailed it away quickly, despite protests from Sienna.

"What are you going to do them?" Sienna met Elias’s gaze, her stubbornest flickering against his icy calm. "If you are angry, take your anger out on me. Don’t involve innocent people in this."

Elias almost scoffed. "No, I will punish them. Let this be a lesson to you," he said softly, though his tone was still sharp, "that in this world, strength is not in the swing of the pan or carelessness of your words. It is in knowing when to let me fight for you."

Sienna huffed. "We are getting divorced, will you still fight for me when I am not your wife?"

Mrs. Miller gasped, and went limp.

"Mother," Soren shrieked.

Liman swooped in and carried Mrs. Miller away, rushing her to a guest room. The estate doctor, Clive Beckley was called in to tend to her and he requested for absolute privacy and quiet.

So, Sienna and Soren sat down in the living room, cradling cups of untouched tea, while awaiting for news. Soren kept one of his hands in Sienna’s, squeezing it for comfort.

"She will be fine." Sienna whispered. While comforting her brother, her eyes searched for Shalin and Kroton, discomfort had settled in the pit of her stomach.

Cyra, walked into the room with a small smile on her face. "If you are worried for the sheep beast men, don’t worry, they will be fine. All Elias is going to do is have their pay docked for today."

"And he will be right to." Lady Cadelaria declared.

Sienna almost groaned. Here comes the lecture, she muttered.

Lady Cadelaria stared at her and questioned her in a voice that was sharp enough to slice through steel. "Sienna," she said, elongating the name as though it were a curse. "Do you realize what you have done? Every rodent clan is reaching out already. You have embarrassed this family."

Sienna leaned back in the chair. "Embarrassed? I call it defending myself and the Veythar name. Honestly, mother-in-law, you should thank me. Do you know what they would be saying about our family by now if I had done nothing? Do you want people calling your daughter-in-law a prostitute? I tried to restrain myself. Honestly I did. But, they just kept provoking me so I reacted. What can I say? I am spicy. I am a little pepper."

Ali climbed into her lap at that moment, wrapping tiny arms around Sienna’s neck. "Mama, will teach me how to fight with a pan?" she asked, eyes wide with admiration.

Sienna kissed her forehead. "Yes, darling. I will teach you how to swing it with style. One swing, perfect arc, no wasted motion."

Lady Cadelaria cleared her throat.

Sienna pretended not to hear.

From behind the couch, Eli peeked out, his fox ears twitching suspiciously. Unlike Ali who adored their mother’s actions, Eli treated Sienna like a criminal under constant investigation. "Bad woman, grandma is right. You must have provoked trouble first."

Sienna replied flatly, "Bad little beast boy, did you see me provoking anyone? You are just like your father, you don’t investigate facts before making accusations."

Eli came out completely and puffed his cheeks. "I am telling dad." He turned and ran away.

Sienna winked at Ali. "You are a good baby."

Ali clapped for herself.

Lady Cadelaria pressed her temples. "Sienna, you cannot simply assault people and call them names. I do not understand why you took an unsolicited visit to another city without guards. As the lady of the fox tribe, you should have them with you at all times."

"I don’t remember them being offered to me." Sienna countered.

Lady Cadelaria was taken aback for a second. Indeed, they had never assigned Sienna guards. One reason was because she never left the estate before. She was perfectly safe within.

The older woman found an excuse for her son quickly, "That’s because Elias did not know how many enemies you had outside. And that number has climbed because of your remarks. You need to make a public apology."

Sienna grinned widely. "A public apology! to whom? Let me be honest, if I have to apologize to Susie, I will take my frying pan, stand on the balcony and declare: ’Dear mouse beast bitch, I regret nothing!"

Cyra squealed, uncontrolled laughter taking control of her.

The servants smiled, pretending to work while dawdling around. They whispered among themselves, ears twitching with gossip. They were all familiar with Lady Cadelaria’s ways. To her, every bow, every smile, ever carefully chosen word was a brick in the palace on public image. This new active Sienna on the other hand, seemed to believe the opposite. She was taking all of those bricks and smashing them in Lady Cadelaria’s face.

Right now, Lady Cadelaria looked close to fainting. "Sienna, you are deliberately being impossible."

Sienna shook her head. "No, I am being deliberate. It is one thing for someone to dislike me and another for them to attempt to humiliate and then silence me. I also think that this is not the right time to be discussing this. My mother has just collapsed. The doctor has been inside for over thirty minutes and we know nothing so far. Susie Wiener is the last thing on my mind."

At that moment, Elias entered the living room and silence fell like snow. The eavesdropping servants scattered. Sienna watched the man, noticing that he her had changed his cloak, This one was also black, but it had silver markings around the hands. His aura had not changed though, it was still cold. "Mother, Sienna," he spoke voice low and deep.

Sienna straightened, shameless as ever, she replied, "My darling popsicle, are you here to demand a public apology from me as well?"

Elias’s eyebrows twitched. "Your darling popsicle," he repeated the words in a tone that was dangerously low.
