Chapter 349: Chapter 349 26 Days?

Allison pushed herself up slowly, steadying her breath as she looked at the small group of werewolves who still bowed to her with the same respect and loyalty. She wanted to stay longer, to catch up with them, to promise them she would never leave them again, but she knew she could not risk it. If she stayed too long, someone would notice.

"If I stay any longer they will start asking questions," Allison whispered, forcing her voice to stay calm. "I need to leave before anyone grows suspicious."

Rosa nodded. "We will make sure everything is ready by the time you return. Please be careful."

Allison gave a slight nod and slipped out of the hidden room, closing the door quietly behind her. A deep breath escaped her once she was back in the hallway. She pulled her expression back into something blank and obedient.

She straightened her shoulders, pretending she was only passing through, and walked around the corner as if nothing had happened.

.......

(Ember/Aeris POV)

I stood in the infirmary, my arms crossed over my chest as I stared at Seraphina’s unconscious body. She looked even paler up close, her red hair messy and sticking to her forehead. I couldn’t help but wonder what her relationship with Alaric was, considering how protective he was of her a few moments ago.

Midnight almost went feral, as if he could not see us or didn’t know us.

The scene from earlier still replayed in my mind. The witches had stepped forward to help Seraphina to the infirmary, speaking softly as they approached, and before their hands could even reach her, Midnight lunged at them and everyone in the room. His growl shook the entire hallway, his claws scraped the floor, and his teeth snapped at anyone who dared move. His eyes looked wild and desperate, like he was ready to tear down the world if it meant keeping her safe.

If Damon had not stepped in, I was certain Midnight would have attacked everyone in the room. Even when Damon subdued him, he snarled like someone had taken the only thing he cared about.

’Could it be that, Seraphina and Alaric are... mates... no, that can’t be.’ I shook my head in denial.

If they were mates, why would Alaric fight with her so fiercely, and they didn’t look like they had the mate pull between them? But why would Alaric act that way over a witch?

’Could it be that he has a crush on her?’

I shook my head again, sighing. I really hoped he was okay, especially seeing how Damon had suppressed him earlier... but I was going to investigate both Alaric and Seraphina, something fishy was going on.

A rustle of fabric drew my attention.

The witch who had been staring at me earlier walked closer. Her movements were slow but deliberate, like she was studying every tiny reaction I made. Her skin was pale, her lips dry, and her eyes carried a strange swirl of curiosity that made anyone uncomfortable.

She stopped in front of me and lowered her head slightly. "My name is Irene," she said softly.

I looked at her, keeping my voice calm and detached. "What do you want?"

Her lips curled into a smile that did not reach her eyes. "I wanted to thank you for helping Seraphina. Without you, she might not have survived."

Yeah, I had to save her with my magic, after the witches begged me nonstop. It wasn’t willingly, because o didn’t want to treat her, after all she was such a villain. But seeing how Alaric protected her, I believed she was worth saving.

I nodded slightly, though the feeling in my chest refused to settle. Something about her felt... off.

"I only did what was necessary," I said.

Irene’s smile lingered a little too long before she stepped back, her gaze trailing over me in an unsettling way. She finally left the room, and the moment she was gone.

’What is the witch planning? I need to keep an eye on her.’ I thought inwardly, my gaze wandered back to the sleeping beauty, more like the sleeping witchy. ’Hehehehe,’ that was a funny one.

"It didn’t hit that hard." Layla sneered in my head.

"You are just jealous that you couldn’t come up with something that good." I retorted, sticking my tongue out and rolling my eyes.

"I’m just telling the truth." She said, yet I could hear the smugness in her voice.

"Whatever," I muttered under my breath.

"You better not make me regret saving you, that magic cost my life force," I said, staring at Seraphina, before walking out of the room.

"Life force? The magic didn’t even cost 1 percent of it." Layla pointed out.

I sneered. "Even if it’s 0.5 percent, it is still my life force, and knowing we have 26 days left, do you think I want to spend it like this? I have A LOT to do, I don’t have time for this drama."

"26 days? What is that? What happens after that?" Layla bombarded with questions, I could imagine her brows almost meeting together.

I swallowed, yeah I haven’t told her that in a few days, we are finally going to visit the afterlife or maybe hell together.

"We die." I replied nonchalantly as if I was talking about the weather.

"What?!! We D-I-E? You mean the literal death where we cease to exist? you mean we’ll be no more?"

"Yes." I nodded my head, staring at the floor of the hallway as if it was the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen.

"Why are you telling me this now! I just started living a few days ago and I’m going to die soon." Her voice becomes lower with every word.

"No, No, Ember you must be joking!" She yelled, clawing at me.

My steps faltered, I grimaced in pain. "Continue doing this and we die faster, and besides are you going to say you don’t know about my thoughts. You should have known about it, I bet you just didn’t want to face it." My fist clenched tightly.

Anyway her crash out was valid, ignorance is bliss after all.

"You could have told me before, I thought we were one, and besides there are a lot of things I want to do. I NEED BEOWULF NOW! There is no time to play hard to get." She began pacing around in my head, muttering words I couldn’t comprehend.

At this point it is safe to say she was losing her mind. "And when were you playing hard to get? You were busy swaying your hips around him." I huffed in disbelief.
