Chapter 45: Alan Fucking Latham

One of the bodyguards opened the backseat door, and Eira got in after muttering a quick thanks. Immediately, the bodyguard also got into the car and sat in the passenger seat. The car started and drove away from the school building.

[What is Myra doing right now?] Eira asked the AI as she plugged in her earpods.

[She is calling Alan. I will proceed to transmit their conversation to you] the AI replied. Two seconds later, Eira heard the sound of a call being answered, followed by Myra’s voice.

Eira knew that after receiving the package, Myra had two people to convince: one was Eliot, who had to give her permission to go, and the other was Alan, whom she wanted to accompany her. Since Eliot wasn’t home and she couldn’t possibly call him just to ask for his permission, the person she could currently convince was Alan. So, she called him.

"Alan! I know where we can go this weekend!" Myra’s delighted voice came through the phone. "Remember how I used to tell you that my dream hotel was Royal Luxuries, right? And earlier this year, I told you about their Valentine’s Day event that was so perfect? Well, they called and said they’re holding a couple’s event similar to that one, but this time everything is free! A free stay and free participation in all the activities lined up for the event. They said they choose people based on inquiries on their website."

"Myra," Alan called, but Myra continued as if she hadn’t heard him.

"Isn’t it perfect? It starts on Friday and ends on Monday. We can go on Friday evening and come back on Monday," she laughed. "This is exactly what I need after that hellish punishment."

"Myra, your punishment is going to end in two days. I’m sure your father won’t allow you to go, and—"

"That’s nothing; I already thought of that. I’ll just tell him I’m going to accompany a friend to her grandfather’s funeral after she pleaded with me, and I couldn’t say no. I’ll even call one of my friends to help make the lie believable."

"Are you sure you’ll be able to convince him?"

Myra chuckled. "One hundred percent, trust me. So, what about you? You’re coming, right?"

Alan sighed. "You know I can’t say no to you, but my mom isn’t as easy to convince as your dad."

"Oh."

"It’s alright. I absolutely want to be with you, especially because we haven’t had time for ourselves. So, I promise I’ll find a way to convince my mom, and we’ll go to that hotel and do everything we haven’t been able to do."

"I’m so happy; can’t wait to see you! I’m going to start packing. Love you!"

Alan chuckled. "Alright, love you too." And the call ended.

"Stupid fuckers," Eira muttered as she removed the earpods and leaned back against the seat, closing her eyes.

Just then, the car came to a sudden stop, making her body jolt forward before the seatbelt drew her back.

"What the fuck happened?" Eira asked in annoyance.

"A car that’s been following us suddenly drove in front of us," the driver said, pointing forward. Eira followed his finger to see the doors of the car in front of them opening, with five men stepping out.

"Who the hell are these?" Eira grumbled as she stared at the men before turning to the bodyguards. "Since you knew they were following us, why didn’t you lose them or tell me?"

"We did inform you, and we didn’t try to lose them because we wanted to know who they were," the one in the passenger seat answered.

"What? What if they had guns? Are you crazy?"

"We wanted to know because they didn’t seem like the usual threats we deal with, so we let them hinder us to figure out their intentions and who sent them. You don’t have to worry; he’ll deal with them," the driver said, nodding toward his partner.

"And what if he can’t handle them?" By now, the men were already nearing their car.

"Then I’ll join him and call for backup." The driver said as his partner got out of the car.

Eira watched as the bodyguard walked calmly toward the group of men, sizing them up with an assessing gaze. His demeanor was confident, almost nonchalant, as he adjusted his cuffs before speaking. His voice was low, but even Eira could hear the sharp edge of authority in his tone.

"Can I help you gentlemen with something?"

One of the men, standing slightly ahead of the others, sneered. "We’re here for the girl. Hand her over, and no one has to get hurt."

The bodyguard raised an eyebrow, amusement flashing briefly in his eyes. "You must be new to this game if you think that’s going to work."

The tension thickened as the men bristled, shifting slightly as if readying themselves.

The bodyguard in front of Eira’s car cracked his knuckles, his gaze fierce as he took a step forward. "Last warning. Walk away."

One of the men lunged, and the fight began. fгeewebnovёl.com

Two minutes into the fight, Eira couldn’t stop her lips from twitching.

[Master, I’ve analyzed their fighting methods and concluded they are amateurs,] the AI said in her mind, and Eira nodded.

[Yeah, I can see that. It even looks like that guy is just playing with them.]

With that, Eira opened the car door and got out, the driver hurrying after her.

"Miss Ephyra—"

Eira waved her hand as she walked forward. "It’s alright. You can see they’re amateurs. Go and help your partner hold them down. We still need to find out who sent them and what they wanted."

"On it," he said, stepping forward to assist his partner. The men were beaten until they couldn’t move and were then bound on the ground.

Some had gone unconscious, while the rest were on the brink of losing consciousness.

Eira scoffed as she stepped in front of them. She looked down at the bloodied men and questioned, "Who sent you?"

No reply.

"What did you want? What were you sent to do?"

Still no reply.

Eira lifted her leg and stepped on the area between one of the still-conscious man’s legs, prompting a scream from him.

"Will you answer now? Who the fuck sent you, and what did they tell you to do?"

The man didn’t answer as he continued to scream, making Eira frown. She lifted her leg and harshly stepped on his knee joint.

"Talk."

"We... we don’t know who he is. He didn’t tell us his name, and he was wearing a baseball cap. He paid us to surround you and beat you up. He also said we could... do whatever we like after."

Eira laughed and crouched down. "Me?"

"Yes, he gave us your name, Ephyra Allen. He described your appearance and told us where to find you."

"Describe him."

"He didn’t—"

Eira took a pen out of her pocket and jabbed it into his thigh. "Describe him."

The man whimpered, breathing heavily as he tried to answer. "He was tall, lean, but he wore a cap low over his face, so I couldn’t see much else. Dark shirt, jeans... Oh! And I think he had brown hair! I saw it from the side of his cap. He was careful. I swear, that’s all I know!"

Eira laughed, shaking her head, her grip tightening on the pen before withdrawing it from his thigh. She stood, casting a disdainful look over the group.

Alan Fucking Latham.

She turned to the bodyguards. "Knock them out and take them with us."

After all, they would be used as gifts to surprise someone.

She walked back to the car. "Let’s go."

The bodyguards followed her instructions without hesitation, securing the men before shoving them into the trunk.

As Eira slid back into her seat, she couldn’t stop the chuckle that escaped her lips. Alan’s audacity was laughable, yet his actions fueled her simmering anger. He thought he could send a pack of thugs her way to intimidate her? Clearly, he didn’t know who he was dealing with. If he wanted to play this game, she’d gladly teach him the rules.

"Drive," she instructed coldly, folding her arms. "But keep an eye out. If there’s anyone else lurking around, I want to know."

The driver nodded, pulling the car back onto the road. The bodyguard in the passenger seat glanced over at her, a faint look of respect crossing his face. "You handle these situations well, Miss Ephyra."

Eira gave him a sideways glance, her expression unreadable, then her lips curved up. "This was nothing." Absolutely nothing compared to what she was capable of.

The bodyguard nodded in understanding and turned his attention forward. As they drove through the city streets, the AI spoke again.

[Master, what are you going to do about what Alan Latham did?]

A smirk curved on Eira’s lips. [There will be a major change in the next stage of the plan. I wanted to save it for later, but they don’t deserve it. Just make sure the videos are super clear and distribute them through all the usual channels.]

[Understood, Master. I will ensure the visuals are sharp and the message unmistakable.]

[Thank you.]

[No need to thank me, Master. It’s my job.]

...

Stopping in front of the mansion, Eira sat up and slung her bag over her shoulder. "Deliver the men to Jania. I’ll tell her what to do. See you guys tomorrow."

"Understood, Miss Ephyra."

Eira got out of the car and walked into the compound, then into the mansion. Instead of going to her room, she turned down another hallway and walked towards the closed door at the far end.

Stopping in front of it, she brought her hand forward and knocked three times.

"Who’s that? I’m busy. Come back later!"

She knocked again, this time harder and longer until the door opened, revealing Myra’s frowning face. Her expression turned angry as soon as she saw Eira.

"What the fuck do you want, Ephyra?"

Eira’s lips curved into a smile that didn’t reach her eyes as she met Myra’s glare head-on. "Oh, I just thought you’d want to know what a thoughtful gift your dear boyfriend Alan left for me today."

Myra scoffed, crossing her arms. "I don’t have time for whatever lies you’ve got lined up. What is it, Ephyra? Here to whine because you can’t handle a little competition?"

Eira chuckled softly, the sound laced with contempt. "Competition? Myra, if you actually knew what was going on around you, you’d understand that you’re not even on the playing field. But this isn’t about you, for once. It’s about the poor idiots Alan sent to rough me up." She took a step closer, her tone dropping dangerously. "I’d thank him if it wasn’t so pathetic."

Myra’s face faltered, a flicker of confusion crossing her expression before she composed herself. "What are you even talking about?"

"Oh, you’ll find out soon enough. But for now, I wish you the best on your couple’s vacation." Eira nudged her head towards the open suitcase and clothes on the bed, savoring the way Myra’s face paled.

Without another word, she turned and walked away. Eira made her way back to her room.

Once in her room, she called Jania again.

Jania hurried to speak. "Ephyra, Marley told me what happened. Do you know who sent those guys?"

Eira threw her bag on the desk and took off her school jacket. "Yes, my fucking fiancé."

Jania snickered, trying not to laugh. "What are you going to do?"

"I won’t be keeping the video. Oh, you mentioned something about a truth serum two days ago, right?"

"Yes. To make it more interesting, what better than spilling all their dirty laundry—and other people’s while they’re at it?"

"Can it be used with the aphrodisiac?"

"Yeah, the aphrodisiac will be in the air, while the truth serum will be in their drinks, so it’s cool."

Eira’s eyes gleamed with dangerous satisfaction as she considered the combination. "Perfect. Let’s make sure they have the time of their lives," she said with a chilling smile.
