Chapter 109 - Being Polite (2)

They had sold quite a few of merchandise today and Shu Yan would need to head to the train station tomorrow morning to pick up her delivery from City Hang. Then, she needed to head to Boss He’s factory for a batch of windbreaker in the afternoon. After that, she’d need to organize the inventory and mix and match them when she got back to her shop. She felt like a spinning top that couldn’t stop for a second.

Even though Wu Xiuyue was being nice, Shu Yan couldn’t just take advantage of her. Taking the kids with her to the market, she purchased 5 kg of meat, 5 kg of rice, and 5 kg of noodles. When she walked past the fruit stand by the entrance, she bought a bag of fruits.

The Zhang’s were having dinner when they saw her. Father Zhang and Mother Zhang were dubious at first. Wu Xiuyue paused for a second, then noticing all the stuff in Shu Yan’s hands and said, “What are those? You take those back with you.”

“Hurry up and give me a hand,” said Shu Yan as she handed the meat over to her. She put the rice down in a corner of the living room and shook her sore hand. “Hi Uncle and Aunty. I am the mother of Ye Jingjing. She’s a classmate of Zhang Chenghan. I am not sure if Xiuyue had mentioned it.”

“Yes, and you are also Xiuxiu’s boss. Here… have a seat.” Mother Zhang quickly looked at all the bags of stuff on the floor and in Wu Xiuyue’s hand. An astute look quickly flashed passed her eyes.

Wu Xiuyue had already mentioned it to Father Zhang, Mother Zhang, and Zhang Huafeng when she had gotten home. Father Zhang and Zhang Huafeng didn’t have much to say about it, but Mother Zhang wasn’t too happy about it. After all, things were tight with them and it’d be a stretch to have more mouths to feed. And they were just kids, so they’d most likely fight over whatever they have with her precious grandson. But Shu Yan turned around and brought all these stuff with her.

“No worries. Just call me Shu Yan.” Shu Yan put the fruits down on the table and smiled. “This is just a small gesture of my appreciation. This was a big favor that I am asking. I hope you are okay with it. My dinner is still on the stove, so I should head out. I will trouble Xiuyue to pick up my kids for me tomorrow.”

“You can go, but you must take these back with you.” Wu Xiuyue picked up the fruits and wanted to hand both the fruits and the meat back to Shu Yan. “You didn’t need to do this. Picking up the kids is just something on my way and they wouldn’t eat that much anyway. Unless you are trying to say that my family won’t have anything good to feed your kids.”

“Oh, c’mon. You know that’s not what I meant. It’s just a token gesture. If you don’t accept it, I am going to assume that you think that’s not enough. Look, all three kids are watching us right now. This back and forth is starting to look bad.” Shu Yan refused to take them back.

“Well, you are aware that this back and forth looks bad, so you should take it back. Otherwise, you are just mocking me,” said Wu Xiuyue, displeased.

“It’s really not that much stuff. Just accept them unless you don’t like them. Otherwise, I wouldn’t feel right asking you to help me out.”

The back and forth went on for quite a bit longer and finally, Shu Yan said that her dinner was going to be overcooked and left with her kids.

Once she was downstairs, Shu Yan wiped away the sweat on her forehead. She thought it was interesting when she used to watch her mother going back and forth like that with the relatives, now she just found it tiring.

“I told you she’s a very reasonable person,” said Wu Xiuyue as she gave Mother Zhang a look and brought the stuff inside the kitchen with her. The weather was hot and the meat needed to be preserved right away. “Huafeng, go and get some salt from the corner store.”

“She brought so much stuff over. We must make a better meal tomorrow and make sure her two children are treated properly,” said Zhang Huafeng to his wife that night.

“You don’t think I know that?” said Wu Xiuyue as she casted him a glance. She suddenly scooted closer to Zhang Huafeng and whispered to him, “Xiuxiu told me that the cheapest article of clothing at Shu Yan’s place costs $20 and the expensive ones can be upward of $100. She sold almost all of them yesterday. How much do you think she made? At least over $1,000. That’s almost $30,000 a month. One can make so much money doing business.”
