Transmigrated Genius: Fragile Heiress Reigns Supreme-Chapter 580 - 582: Kinship (Part 2)
Nanny Fang immediately crawled on her knees to the bedside to soothe Lady: "Lady, are you all right?" She turned her head to Madam Jiang and said, "First Young Madam, please go fetch the doctor quickly!"
Madam Jiang glanced at Xiqiu and nodded instantly, pulling Xiqiu along: "Mother’s health isn’t good and can’t have too many people around, Sixth Lady, please go outside as well." She pulled Xiqiu out and looked back at the curtain: "Sixth Lady, please don’t mind, Fourth Lady and Third Lady should return soon. Please have a seat here for now."
Xiqiu nodded lightly: "Alright. Sister-in-law, hurry and send someone to fetch the doctor."
"I’ll be on my way," Madam Jiang said as she held her belly and left the room, instructing someone to fetch the doctor.
Xiqiu glanced at the room, then took Bihuai and Biwu to Madam Xia’s room. Madam Xia was looking out from the courtyard entrance, and upon seeing Xiqiu approaching, she hurried over with a face full of concern: "Lady hasn’t made things difficult for you, has she?"
"No!" Xiqiu took her arm, smiling: "How have you been lately? Is everything well in the mansion?"
After speaking, the two couldn’t help but smile at each other. Madam Xia reached out to touch Xiqiu’s face lovingly: "This time you’ve returned looking a bit thinner than last time."
Upon hearing this, Xiqiu also raised her hand to touch her face: "Thinner? I thought I looked a bit plumper."
Madam Xia’s eyes reddened as she teased: "Your chin is sharper, where are you plumper." She said as she pulled Xiqiu inside: "For lunch today, I’ll make something delicious for you to nourish yourself."
It seemed like Xiqiu was usually deprived of food, making her laugh: "I haven’t tasted your cooking in such a long time, I truly miss it."
Madam Xia smiled with pursed lips as they entered the room, where Xiuzhi brought in tea for Xiqiu, smiling: "Sixth Lady, you’re finally back. You don’t know how worried Madam Xia has been hearing about the troubles in the Marquis Mansion lately, fearing that you might be wronged. Your return today surely eased her mind."
"You certainly have a way with words," Madam Xia pretended to glare at Xiuzhi: "Go accompany Bihuai and Biwu to have some snacks and take a rest."
Xiuzhi winked at Xiqiu playfully, smiling as she led Bihuai and Biwu out the door.
"Is Young Master Xin better now? I was frightened the other day hearing about how he got poisoned out of nowhere," Madam Xia said as she peeled grapes for Xiqiu, indicating for her to eat them.
Xiqiu put one in her mouth and recounted the recent events to Madam Xia: "Thanks to Sister Jingliu, otherwise it would have been disastrous." She looked genuinely relieved.
Madam Xia couldn’t help but put down the grapes, chanting Amitabha repeatedly before sighing: "Nurse Zhang really is our savior, she saved you when you were ill, and this time she saved Young Master Xin too. Make sure to thank her."
"I will," Xiqiu nodded.
Madam Xia continued: "Your father should be back later; you must tell him about these recent events. Although he hasn’t mentioned it, I know he’s been getting up in the middle of the night to sit alone in the study for hours..."
"Please also console Father. Given recent events, both the Grand Dowager and the Marquis will be worried about Young Master Xin and will ensure he is well taken care of. There’s no need for concern," Xiqiu said with a smile.
Madam Xia nodded, wiping her hands with a handkerchief before attempting to peel walnuts, but Xiqiu stopped her: "You should rest. I ate before arriving and can’t eat this much now."
"How can that be, look how thin you are." Madam Xia insisted, cracking a walnut and offering the kernel to Xiqiu, then said earnestly: "It’s been half a year since you got married, you should take care of yourself. It would be safer if you had a child."
Understanding Madam Xia’s concern, Xiqiu smiled and replied: "These things can’t be forced, let’s just go with fate!"
Madam Xia appeared worried. With the Second Madam having had a miscarriage again, if Xiqiu remains childless, the Grand Dowager might be even more disappointed. She advised earnestly: "No matter what, it’s never a loss to take care of your health."
Having said that, she handed the plate of walnuts to Xiqiu: "I’ll go to the kitchen soon, what would you like to eat?"
Concerned about Lady, Xiqiu hesitated: "Don’t bother yourself. Since I’m here to check on Lady, I shouldn’t stay here for long... I’ll return on another day just to taste your cooking."
Madam Xia understood Xiqiu’s dilemma; regardless of circumstances, Lady was her legitimate mother, and Xiqiu didn’t want to bear a reputation for unfiliality.
So she didn’t insist further.
After a little while, Nanny Qiu came in to report: "Sixth Lady, Third Lady has returned."
Xiqiu was taken aback. Tong Xiyang returned, so why hasn’t Tong Xiyan?
"And what about Fourth Sister?" she asked.
Nanny Qiu’s expression changed slightly as she answered hesitantly, "Just now, a nanny from the Jiang Mansion came, saying that Fourth Lady isn’t feeling well and probably won’t return today."
"Not feeling well? Fourth Sister is ill?"
Nanny Qiu paused and replied, "They said Fourth Lady’s illness flared up; she’s resting in her room and doesn’t dare to go anywhere!"
Pollen allergy?
Tong Xiyan has always been cautious and well-versed in caring for her health; how did her condition relapse out of the blue? Xiqiu looked at Nanny Qiu, who seemed to withhold something, her eyes flickering.
Without asking further, Xiqiu nodded and said: "I understand, I’ll head to Mother now!"
She bid farewell to Madam Xia and returned with Nanny Qiu to Lady’s room.
In the main hall, Tong Xiyu happened to come out carrying a basin of hot water. Upon seeing Xiqiu, she called out: "Sixth Sister."
"Eighth Sister," Xiqiu greeted Tong Xiyu with a nod, asking: "Is the doctor here? What did they say?"
Tong Xiyu glanced at the room and whispered: "They said not to agitate Lady... She had just taken medicine and is now asleep."
"Got it." After a moment, Xiqiu added: "Thank you for your efforts, Eighth Sister." Tong Xiyu held the basin, seemingly intended for washing Lady. 𝗳𝚛𝚎𝚎𝘄𝕖𝕓𝕟𝕠𝚟𝚎𝕝.𝗰𝕠𝐦
Tong Xiyu blushed, lowered her head, and responded: "It’s my duty." She then curtseyed to Xiqiu: "Sixth Sister, have a seat. I need to go to the kitchen to prepare medicine for Mother."
Xiqiu didn’t say more, stepping aside to let Tong Xiyu out.
Just then, a lion-like roar came from the room, startling Xiqiu. Wasn’t she supposed to be asleep? Why the sudden commotion?
As she wondered, the voice of Nanny Fang came from the room: "Third Miss, your words are too harsh. Don’t think that just because you’re now the Third Young Madam of the Marquis Mansion, you can return to your maiden home and act arrogantly. Remember, it was Lady who raised you, speaking like this, aren’t you afraid of being struck by lightning and being called unfilial?"
