Chapter 140: Chapter 140: Meat with Every Meal vs. a Single Meal of Meat

"You want them to sell movie stills too?"

On the way, Jim Thorne couldn’t help but ask. He wasn’t too keen on the idea, worried his income would drop. There were only so many people in Vessaria. With five more guys competing for business, how would he ever earn his hundred yuan?

"Don’t worry, it won’t affect your income."

Adrian Hawthorne saw right through Jim Thorne’s little worries. Grandpa Tate had studied the market in Vessaria; the business of selling movie stills alone could support at least ten to fifteen salespeople. Any more than fifteen, and the market would be saturated.

"Really?" Jim Thorne was unconvinced.

"As long as you work hard and think smart, it definitely won’t," Adrian Hawthorne assured him.

Of course, there was a difference between one person selling and several. If Jim Thorne didn’t put in more effort, his income would naturally drop. But that wasn’t Adrian’s concern. He just wanted to make more money—the more salespeople he had, the more he’d earn. 𝑓𝘳𝘦𝑒𝑤𝑒𝘣𝘯ℴ𝘷𝘦𝓁.𝑐𝑜𝑚

Jim Thorne’s expression grew solemn. This was the first time he’d ever considered a problem so seriously. He was pondering how to work harder to sell more movie stills. He had promised to buy his sister chocolate, and he couldn’t break his promise.

’Right, tomorrow I’ll grab more stills and check out the bus station first. It’s crowded over there, so I should be able to sell a good amount.’

Tang Xiaonan, however, was worried. She was afraid those punks would just take the photos and leave, and Adrian Hawthorne would be out a lot of money.

"Aren’t you afraid they’ll just take the photos and run? You don’t even know their names. Where would you find them?" Jim Thorne had the same worry. The siblings had the same thought.

Tang Xiaonan breathed a sigh of relief. ’Good thing my brother asked.’

"A single meal of meat, or meat every day—which do you think they’d choose?" Adrian Hawthorne countered.

Jim Thorne sank into contemplation. This was a profound question; he’d need some time to think it over.

"Of course, I’m not going to give them too many stills tomorrow. I’ll give them thirty each. They can’t get more until they sell those. Once they get a taste of the easy money, they won’t just run off with the product. Not unless they don’t want to make even more."

Adrian Hawthorne explained in more detail. He wasn’t too concerned. Of course, there was always some risk. If he ran into a fool who was only interested in that single meal, he’d take a loss.

But business always involved risk. If he didn’t even have this much courage, he might as well be back on Millstone Peak, safely earning work points that couldn’t even fill his stomach!

Jim Thorne nodded, feeling much more at ease. But then a new worry popped into his head—

"What if they start developing the photos themselves? Then they won’t need to get stock from you."

"Developing photos isn’t that simple. First, they don’t have the technical skills. Second, they don’t have that much capital. The initial investment would be several hundred yuan. They can’t afford it, and they wouldn’t be willing to take on such a big risk."

Adrian Hawthorne had already considered everything Jim Thorne brought up. He wasn’t worried about any of that. His only concern was that the punks wouldn’t be able to sell anything.

"That’s good, then."

Jim Thorne breathed a sigh of relief, his heart finally at ease. But he had new questions. ’That Hawthorne fella has so much money, so why is his life so hard? Doesn’t he know he can use it to buy meat?’

’He felt that Adrian Hawthorne was brilliant at times, but an idiot at others. He’d rather starve than spend money, rather take a beating than fight back. He’d seen Adrian’s true strength during that scuffle just now. Even though Adrian was weaker than him, he could definitely handle those guys from the village. And yet, in the past, he’d let those weaklings beat him till he was rolling on the ground, looking pathetic.’

「Around two-thirty that afternoon」

The three of them arrived home.

"This is for you."

Adrian Hawthorne pulled three meat buns from his bag and shoved them at Jim Thorne. He had a few left to bring home for Grandpa Tate and Rosalind Green. Jim Thorne accepted them without hesitation.
