Transmigrated as The Forgotten Extra-Chapter 107 Ordering a Weapon.
The bear, or the man called Himura, approached; his every step was heavy with a silent pressure. Cain lifted his face to stare straight toward the man’s eyes. His black hair was somewhat messy, his face was average, and his pair of black eyes radiated warmth like blazing ambers.
The man stood nearly two meters tall, his body a solid embodiment of muscle. It was robust and thick, a testament to his life’s work as a blacksmith.
As the man stood before him, Cain caught the tangy scent of carbon wafting through the air. The two stared at each other for a while before the man shifted his gaze sideways toward Senior Luna.
Senior Luna met the man’s gaze, and Cain saw the girl’s blue eyes sparkle in excitement.
"Uncle Himura, It’s been a while."
Himura nodded, his lips parting into a genuine smile, then crouched to meet the girl’s eyes. He stared at the girl for a couple of moments, then spoke.
"You are getting taller and prettier just like your mother."
However, as soon as he said those words, Cain noticed a shadow fall over the man’s expression. The man bit his lips, looking down in helplessness. 𝘧𝓇ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝘣𝓃ℴ𝓋𝑒𝑙.𝑐𝘰𝑚
The grey-haired boy raised his brows, nodding to himself.
’I see, so the man’s know senior Luna’s condition. But still didn’t receive any news of her recovery.’
Cain glanced at Luna. She had tilted her head, a small, confused smile on her lips, utterly unaware of the sorrow that had just flickered across the man’s face. He didn’t interrupt, then shifted his gaze elsewhere.
The small wooden house, set apart from the main one, stood imposingly in the backyard. From the open door, Cain saw a rectangular table filled with many tools and one large hammer placed in the middle of the room.
On top of the tilted roof, a wide chimney exhaled black smoke that billowed into the atmosphere, then disappeared. Cain noticed it too late, but the moment he entered this place, the temperature rose significantly.
"So, you are, Cain?"
A soft and gentle voice reverberated in Cain’s ears, pulling his gaze toward the source.
Himura stood up while rubbing his chin, his black eyes scrutinizing the boy. The man kept his mouth for several seconds until he stared at Cain’s connected hands, prompting a smirk to appear on the man’s face.
Although Cain was happy with the feeling of having someone care for you. But, over time, as many people watch him and senior Luna together like this. He was starting to feel like a little kid being led around by his protective mother.
When that thought popped into his head, the boy inhaled deeply before speaking.
"Yes, I’m, it’s nice to meet you, Mr. Himura."
Himura extended his right hand, asking Cain to shake hands. The sudden action made Cain frown.
Not because he was reluctant to part with Luna, well, there was a part of him that didn’t want to part. But he wanted to be freed, at least for a moment. Also, the biggest issue aside from their interlocked hands was the man’s sneering face.
Himura was definitely enjoying the moment of Cain’s difficulty.
However, out of everyone’s expectation, the silver-haired girl loosened the grip on their joined hands, giving Cain a moment to slap that teasing gaze off of Himura’s face.
This time, the boy spread his lips, baring his white teeth.
"I hope we can get along."
The man gave Cain a gentle squeeze, which sent a momentary jolt of pain through his nerves.
"Likewise."
’Ouch, ouch, keep your bear paw off me. old man!’
It started with Himura, but Cain was not a pushover himself, so he began to put a bit of strength in his palm and squeeze back. And then, instead of getting the introduction done, the two were locked in a silent, intense contest of strength.
As the two were locked within a match, suddenly, Luna’s clear voice chilled the flame that ignited in Cain and Himura’s eyes, turning them docile.
"Uncle Himura, can you make a weapon for Cain?"
The man and Cain looked toward the girl on the side, both gulped, cold sweat streaming down their backs. Feeling too embarrassed by the earlier childish conflict. Himura released his hand, coughing to dismiss the awkwardness.
"So that’s what you are here for."
Himura glanced at Luna, then at the boy, who was clenching his right palm. He spoke.
"Let’s go inside."
After a little skirmish initiated by the man, Cain looked toward his red palm. His fingertips were slightly trembling, but it soon faded a beat later.
"Cain, let’s follow uncle."
Without a moment to catch his breath, senior Luna began to close the distance and interlocked their fingers again. It was tighter than ever.
Following the man’s steps, Cain entered the workshop. Once he stepped inside, scorching heat seeped deep into his flesh. It opened up the pores in his skin to breathe, exhaling steam that had once sweated.
Cain shifted his attention toward the right. There was a massive forge, a tube made of bricks; it had a hole filled with blazing charcoal. His face contorted because each time he breathed, his throat felt like it was burning.
The flame in the forge crackled in joy, as if welcoming him and Senior Luna to its base.
Himura, who stood near the forge, turned his back around, facing the boy. Unlike his playful behaviour, the man’s gaze was sharpened. He grabbed a thong that rested on top of the anvil and used it to pinch a steel plate buried under those crimson coals.
"So, what kind of weapon do you want me to make?"
The man didn’t even glance at Cain as he shoved back the blazing plate into the forge.
Cain gulped to moisten his parched throat. He looked toward the interior, which housed a variety of weapons hung on each wall, as if trophies.
As his eyes scanned through the variety of weapons, Cain’s sight stopped at a white katana with its sheath, placed on its stand on top of a wooden cabinet.
For a moment, Cain’s eyes hone in blue as he unconsciously activates his abilities.
[Scan Protocol activated.]
[Katana = A blade from the Eastern region.]
> The blade was forged from the iron sands + charcoal(Tamahagane), processed inside a Tatara. Its single-edge blade, with a slight curve at the tip, gave the weapon a slashing power.
> The blade length was about 67 cm, and the hilt was 27 cm.
...
Cain stared at the blue panel hovering in his vision. With a conscious blink, he dismissed it. The boy turned to his right and spoke to Senior Luna.
"Senior Luna, can you please release my hand."
The silver-haired girl reluctantly nodded. When he felt the grip loosening, Cain strode toward the Katana. He stared at the weapon for several seconds, then turned toward the owner of the house.
"Do you mind?"
Seeing Himura nodding his head, the boy took the katana from its stand. His heart pounded to see an authentic katana right before his eyes.
All this time, what he saw was a wooden bokuto, or the katana blade General Dosh had given him, which had no resemblance to a real one.
Pushing away those unnecessary thoughts, Cain gripped the blade hilt. He gave it a pull, which let out a satisfying ’clack’ to reveal a sharp glint that pierced his retinas.
Cain saw his reflection on the silver blade, appreciating the wave pattern running across it. He inhaled deeply as he gently unsheathed the blade. His eyelid fluttered open, then turned toward the man near the forge.
"Mr. Himura, can we discuss what weapon I want?"
When those words left Cain’s mouth, Himura’s black pupils dilated. A moment later, the man’s stilled expression broke into a grin.
"Now, we’re talking."
Cain nodded and started to walk toward the rectangular table in the room, looking for paper and something to draw. But faster than he was, Himura had already arrived at his side while holding a single terminal.
"Let me hear what you have in mind, Cain."
"Alright."
The two began discussing what kind of weapon Cain wanted, leaving Luna alone on the side, watching them with an exasperated sigh.
That time, the workshop, which used to be filled with the clanking sounds of steel smashing together, was now drowned out by the heated discussion of the two men, who debated until the sun hung high in the sky.
