Transmigrated As The Final Villain of a Death Game-Chapter 236: The Survivors [ 5 ]
The party sped up, and after just another hour of walking non-stop, we reached the end of the sewers. The tunnel was slightly bent upward, and up ahead was a staircase that led all the way up toward light.
As the first person to see the light, I was relieved.
We’d finally be able to leave this hell, and if Amon had set everything up just like Rain had said, then this would be like a safe haven for people.
I wouldn’t have to worry about anyone, and I could finally resume my training. I felt like I was close to achieving the Sword Heart, but... it’s harder than Amon said.
With those thoughts in mind, Rain stepped forward and led the rest of the party up the staircase, until eventually we arrived at the very top. To my surprise, the light was deceptively bright. 𝕗𝗿𝕖𝐞𝐰𝗲𝕓𝐧𝕠𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝐨𝚖
In reality, we were inside of a mountain cavern. All that light I was seeing was just a bunch of mirrors enhancing a small beam of light. It worked wonders, but...
As I glanced around, I couldn’t help but notice that despite this ’cave’ being massive and enough for at least several hundred people, there was no exit? How were we supposed to get out of here? Through the tunnel down there?
But if we do... can’t demons enter from there as well?
"Ahem."
Just then, Rain cleared his throat, and once the final person climbed the staircase, he spoke loudly:
"Your patron set up farms for you and got you living quarters. There are a lot of tents in those boxes by the side. You’ll have to set them up by yourselves, of course, but it’s still a good start."
"And right, the farms. Eh... I think he said he got you a lot of seeds to choose from as well? For starters, he got you 10 crates of potatoes, so that’s that."
Potatoes...?
"Don’t be ungrateful." Rain’s calm voice resounded.
"This is the only blessing in life the majority of you will ever receive. It’s livable, and he made sure you never suffocate. As for getting in and out of this place..."
He walked over to the northern part of the cave and then tapped twice on the wall. The rocks began to glow, and an arch-like pattern formed. Before long, that pattern morphed into a door, and once Rain put his hands over that door, he opened them.
It was like a weird magic spell. I knew for a fact that neither Amon or Clementine had Gifts like those, unless they had another person helping them?
Since Rain has a Gift related to scythes, then it can’t be him...
"This here’s a door. You put your hand on it, and it opens. Then, when you need it, place your hand on it, and it will close."
He demonstrated it, and if you place a hand on the glowing patterns, then it will react.
"Obviously, there’d be a huge security risk if just anyone could open it, so the only people who can open the door are those with access. Amon gave me access, and I’ll give access to a few people as well. Who they give access to afterwards is up to them."
With that, Rain stepped up, and one by one he walked up to me, Isabelle, and lastly Melina. He tapped on our foreheads and sent some warm energy down into our hearts. If I had to guess, that’s the access he was talking about.
I really didn’t expect them to do so much only days after the demons descended.
But deep down... I was really hoping we weren’t the only ones who knew about the descent of the demons. If more people knew, then more would be prepared.
If we gathered rulers of all the countries and continents, then how would we lose?
Shaking my head at those thoughts, I just blankly listened as Rain began showing off the seeds for the farms and even how to set up tents. With so few nobles present, the hard-working people didn’t make a fuss, and instead they began helping out.
Even the mother and daughter duo from earlier pitched in, saying that they’ll help with the farming. As it turned out, the mother had been running a seed shop with her daughter in the center of Aldraazan before all of this happened.
I was relieved.
But just then, a shiver ran down my spine as I noticed the special door open. I immediately reached for my sword and Isabelle created several dozen ice spears, ready to blast the intruder.
However...
"Huh? You guys are already here?"
It was Alicia.
She looked pretty roughed up, but with two baskets full of herbs and a mini alchemy station on her back, she chuckled lively and closed the door.
"Amon said that I’ll be the guardian of this place too. I’ll help out with the alchemy and stuff. I have a few recipes that’ll help plant growth too. Thankfully, they’re easy to make, but getting the materials is a pain in the ass."
Alicia continued to complain, then set both her baskets down on the ground and also took the alchemy station off her back. She quickly unfolded it, and then plopped to the ground, exhausted.
"Obviously, it’s only a pain in the ass since I’m lazy. Hence why I’ll need some trusty volunteers to gather those materials for me. Isn’t that right, Kevin?"
Huh?
"Me?"
"Yeah. You’re good with your hands, or so I’ve been told."
My brow twitched at her lewd remark. Then, I glanced over at Melina who hadn’t reacted at all. As for Isabelle, she had dark bags under her eyes, and she was obviously tired. Using up that bit of energy must’ve pushed her overboard just now.
Exhaling an annoyed breath, I sheathed my sword.
"I’ll help if no one else volunteers. Also, are you the only one he gave access to, aside from Rain? I don’t want to be caught off guard again."
She nodded.
"Yep. Just me. I think Evelyn also has it, but Amon took her away somewhere, so I doubt we’ll be seeing her any time soon."
Aha...
He’s so prepared.
And then there’s me... I don’t even have a proper sword, and my whole body’s riddled in injuries. My scars... If I could have just a bit more of his blood, they’d all be gone.
But asking him for his blood is a little weird.
Just then, Rain tapped me on the shoulder and gave me a smile.
"I gave them all a rundown, and you’ll have this girl here... Wait..."
He froze, staring at her chest.
"D-Cup. Beautiful... Are you Alicia?"
She cocked her head back.
"Amon said one of his friends is a pervert. Is that you?"
Rain flinched slightly, then rubbed the back of his neck.
"C-Come now... I’m just an admirer of the female body."
"Yeah, right."
He sighed and then straightened his back.
"Wanna date?"
"No."
Alicia’s reply was instant, and with her face not showing a trace of emotion, I knew she hadn’t even considered it for a moment.
"Agh... Then, if I try again tomorrow, will you still say no?" Rain pleaded.
"Mhm. I’ll still say no. But don’t stop. I like the confidence boost. Makes me feel desirable~" Alicia replied with an evil chuckle that made a shiver go down my spine.
And as for Rain, he looked defeated.
"Hic... I’ll try again soon, darling potion master. But until then, I have to get going as I need to set up a couple more outposts and do some boring stuff... Oh yea, I gotta destroy those sewers too. Can’t have demons finding their way here."
He approached the door and after twirling his scythe around for a moment, turned back toward me and the others.
"You guys should stay here for a while. When I say a while, I mean a while. Practice your crafts, and only when you’re satisfied with yourselves, only then go out, okay? I’m looking especially at you, Kevin."
"Amon told me you have something going on with a past trauma. I’d say confront it, but I don’t really know what kind of trauma it is. Either way, get that shit sorted or you’ll be deadweight to others."
He opened the door then narrowed his eyes at me.
"Sometimes, confronting it doesn’t always mean exposing yourself to it. The more people know about it, the more people can carry your burdens. For one, why don’t you open up to the people who you will be fighting with until your last breaths? Anyhow, enough chatter from me, I’ll be seeing you all in a week or two~!"
And with that, he finally left and closed the door after him.
I just stared at the door for a moment, taking his words to heart.
Just like Amon... he had this way of making me feel even worse about myself.
But I knew that he was right.
If I didn’t want to be deadweight, I needed to get over my trauma.
And I guess...
Telling Melina, Isabelle, and Alicia would be a good start...
