Transmigrated as Cannon Fodder — I Rise to Female Lead Through Hard Work-Chapter 31: It’ll Get Better in a Few Years
"Clang—" The large iron gate that had been locked was opened by the old man, who then extended his right hand to grasp Ding Ancheng’s, shaking it firmly back and forth.
"You’re amazing! This is the first time in nearly a decade that our County First Middle School has received such an honor. I heard you are also going to lead students to Jing City to represent our province in a competition." The old man’s smile widened.
"My grandson admires you very much. He’s set to attend County First Middle School this year. I hope Ding can look after him." The old man said, trying to get close, "My grandson’s name is Pan Zhongshi."
"Alright, I’ll remember that."
"Oh, by the way, the Chen Bangguo family lives at No. 25, Xijing Alley."
"Thank you very much, sir." Now that they knew the place, Ding Ancheng and his companions left.
"How does Ding know Chen Bangguo? It’s strange; I’ve never heard Chen Bangguo mention it." The old man shook his head in confusion as he watched Ding Ancheng’s retreating figure because Chen Bangguo was the kind of person who would make sure everyone knew about any relationships he had.
"Brother, are you an outstanding teacher?" Ding Anmin exclaimed in surprise.
Ding Ancheng nodded.
"What’s this about a math competition? Look at you, you never tell the family about anything." Ding Anmin pouted in discontent, "We don’t even know as much as the old man does."
"It’s nothing important," Ding Ancheng explained.
"That old man’s attitude changed so quickly just after hearing you’re a math teacher at County First Middle School. That’s a big deal." Ding Anmin replied.
"What’s the use?"
Ding Anmin fell silent upon hearing this.
"It’ll get better in a few years," Yi Roujing suddenly spoke up.
Immediately, two pairs of eyes looked over. Yi Roujing’s expression was calm, "The country needs to progress, and talent is very important..."
Yi Roujing found it rather amusing; she remained on guard, especially when speaking with Ding Ancheng and Ding Anmin. Maybe it was because she had read, she knew they were good people, so she spoke more freely.
"Is that what you think?" Ding Ancheng replied slowly, his eyes deep as he looked at Yi Roujing.
"Ah? Oh." Yi Roujing nodded blankly, always feeling that the male lead’s gaze was particularly intense.
"Do you want to go to the Middle School?" Ding Ancheng asked.
What’s going on? How did the topic jump to whether she wanted to go to high school? Yi Roujing was a bit bewildered.
"Don’t you want to be a doctor?" Ding Ancheng asked.
Yi Roujing nodded, "Yes, but I plan to wait until the college entrance exams are reinstated and then take them. I don’t plan to attend the Middle School."
Kidding me, even though I’m a bit younger than before, for a high school student, I’m old. My nominal husband is a teacher at the Middle School, while I would be a student, that would give others too much reason to criticize me. Besides, I don’t need to attend the Middle School to do well in the entrance exams; I have the ability, alright.
Ding Ancheng was a bit surprised, "You... suit yourself..."
"Will they really be restored?" Ding Anmin’s mind started to become active, "Then can my second brother and I also attend university?"
"In your spare time, you can start by looking at some books, doing some exercises, and asking me if you don’t understand anything. But specifically, it can’t be said for sure, there’s no news yet." Ding Ancheng replied.
"Oh." Ding Anmin was somewhat disappointed, but a small flame of hope ignited in her heart.
"Ah—" At the corner of Xijing Alley, Ding Anmin was startled out of her reverie because she bumped into someone, though the scream came from the other person.
A sharp woman’s voice, yet there was a familiar feeling that Ding Anmin recognized. Under the dim light, she closely observed for a bit; though the woman across was holding her head, and her body was a bit cowering, Ding Anmin recognized her immediately.
"Stop acting, Wang Qiushuang." Ding Anmin said angrily, they came to look for someone in good faith, only to be startled by someone. What nonsense is this? If she’s afraid, why wander around at this hour?
Wang Qiushuang, who was holding her head, put down her hands as soon as she heard the familiar voice. When she saw it was the three of them, her eyes brightened, "Anmin, Roujing, Ancheng, I didn’t know it was you. It’s great. You aren’t looking for me, are you?"
Wang Qiushuang looked at them with an eager expression. If they came to find her, it meant they valued her. It seemed that the sharp-tongued Yi Roujing still cared about her, which was really good.
"Wang Qiushuang, don’t you have a brain? Do you not know what time it is now? You keep saying we’re friends, but if you don’t come back all night, it would ruin our reputation." Ding Anmin said sharply.
Wang Qiushuang’s face paled at hearing this, stammering, "I didn’t, I just had dinner, watched a movie, so it got late."
In Yi Roujing’s eyes, a trace of envy flashed by, "Where’s the cinema?"
"It’s very close to the Department Store, just two or three minutes away. The cinema is pretty old, but the movies they show are really good, and..." Wang Qiushuang started boasting about her movie experience with pride, claiming it was her first time watching a movie in a cinema.
"I’ll take you to watch tomorrow."
Wang Qiushuang’s speech halted abruptly with Ding Ancheng’s words, her face turning somewhat ashen, her eyes unable to conceal her jealousy.
Yi Roujing curiously glanced at Ding Ancheng a few times. Was this guy trying to court her? What happened, wasn’t the male lead’s personality different in her memory? Did he change?
"Big brother, what about me? What about me?" Ding Anmin asked from behind.
"Together."
"Let’s go see a movie tomorrow." Just then, Wang Qiushuang’s words sparked Ding Anmin’s interest. After all, it’s rare to visit the county town.
"Movie tickets cost fifteen cents each." Having been with Ding Anmin for a while, Wang Qiushuang somewhat understood her personality; she wouldn’t be willing to spend that much.
"Big brother, we better not go. In a few days, someone from the brigade will come to the big field to show a movie. Movies are movies, no matter where you watch them." Ding Anmin said earnestly.
Yi Roujing found it quite amusing.
"Do you want to watch?" Ding Anmin asked Yi Roujing, eyes heavily hinting at caution, as if the words ’fifteen cents’ were about to be imprinted on her face.
"Watch what? I just like watching movies in the big field." Yi Roujing threw her arm around Ding Anmin’s shoulder as she said this.
Smart move, Yi Roujing accurately read Ding Anmin’s inner thoughts.
"Heh—" A light chuckle passed by her ear, laughter that couldn’t be hidden in the dim light. At this moment, Ding Ancheng’s expression was gentle, eyes naturally exuding tenderness, catching the attention of the three girls who were momentarily dazed.
