Transmigrated as Cannon Fodder — I Rise to Female Lead Through Hard Work-Chapter 23: Wang Qiushuang
Doctor Zhang asked kindly with a pleased expression, "Mr. Yi, where do you live? If there are emergency issues in the future, we’d like to consult you again."
Yi Roujing gave her address. Upon hearing it was a production team, Yang Cuishan’s face soured. Was she played by a rural woman?
Afterwards, Doctor Zhang invited both internal and external specialists to examine Hu Heping. Other than a slightly red throat, everything was fine, which put her at ease. Hu Heping was utterly relieved.
"Roujing, let’s go eat. I must thank you properly," Hu Heping said earnestly, linking arms with Yi Roujing.
"Alright." Yi Roujing didn’t refuse, making Hu Heping even happier.
"Cuishan, you go ahead. We’ll leave now," Hu Heping said to Yang Cuishan, her tone noticeably more subdued than before.
Once the four of them left the hospital, Hu Heping looked at Yi Roujing apologetically and said, "Roujing, I’m sorry. Don’t mind what Cuishan said."
"I won’t. She’s not important anyway," Yi Roujing said, unfazed.
Seeing Yi Roujing wasn’t upset, Hu Heping breathed a sigh of relief. "Let’s go to the state-owned restaurant. I wonder if there are any good dishes at this hour."
The state-owned restaurant in Huaixi County was quite spacious. When Yi Roujing and her party entered, they saw a dozen square tables. It was almost mealtime, so only three tables were occupied, leaving the rest empty.
"You all sit down, I’ll go buy," Hao Zhixin said, heading to the counter. Seeing several wooden boards listing dishes on the wall were empty, she felt a bit anxious. The only meat dish was minced meat steamed egg, which didn’t have much meat.
"Comrade, one order of minced meat steamed egg. What other meat dishes do you have?" Hao Zhixin asked.
"Have a look yourself, everything’s written there. If it’s not there, we don’t have it," the server replied without looking up.
"Lu, you can go eat. I’ll take over for you," another server said, pulling back the curtain as she stepped out, patting the seated server.
"Aunt Hua Yun." Hao Zhixin’s face lit up at the sight of the familiar person.
Both servers looked up simultaneously.
"Zhixin, what brings you here?" Ge Huajun grinned upon recognizing her.
"Ge, you know her?"
"Lu, you go eat," Ge Huajun said, avoiding a lengthy introduction, leaving the girl named Lu with nothing to do but pout and leave.
"Aunt Hua Yun, I’m here with my sister-in-law and two other ladies for lunch, but it seems there’s not much meat left," Hao Zhixin said disappointedly.
"Don’t worry, leave it to Auntie," Ge Huajun assured in a low voice, "What would you like to eat?"
"Do you have braised pork? Steamed fish?" Hao Zhixin asked, lowering her voice as well.
"Yes, we have both," Ge Huajun nodded, understanding that today’s guests must have been important to Hao Zhixin and her company.
"Thank you, Aunt Hua Yun," Hao Zhixin exclaimed excitedly, "We’ll also have one order of minced meat steamed egg, two vegetarian dishes, and a soup. Aunt Hua Yun, help us pick something good."
"Alright."
"How much for the meal tickets?" Hao Zhixin asked.
"No need, Auntie will treat you," Ge Huajun replied.
"No, we have to pay for this, really," Hao Zhixin insisted.
Ge Huajun casually accepted some payment. After all, the meat and fish were bought for herself, which she was just reallocating.
Ge Huajun was a local of Huaixi County and was very grateful for the past help from Hao Zhijin’s brother, Hao Zhijian, who was a policeman.
"Today is really a stroke of luck." After sitting next to Hu Heping, Hao Zhixin commented, "In the morning, we met Sister Roujing and Sister Anmin, and now Aunt Hua Yun. We are in for a great meal!"
When the red braised pork, steamed fish, minced meat braised egg, scrambled eggs with leeks, spinach salad, celery shredded meat soup, and four bowls of hearty rice were served, Ding Anmin realized how much she underestimated when Zhixin said "good dishes."
Yi Roujing also didn’t expect such a feast. It was the most sumptuous meal she’d seen, and the group dug in with relish.
Although it was past mealtime, people were still coming into the state-owned restaurant. Yi Roujing didn’t care, eating happily with her head down, but she couldn’t ignore a distinct gaze directed her way. She was no fool and looked up.
The one staring at her was a girl around her age, with thick black hair tied into two braids hanging over her chest. She wore a blue long dress with a white sweater over it, and she was quite pretty. Yi Roujing realized suddenly; she hadn’t met her, but the original owner knew her. They were supposedly good friends, and she was the one who advised the original owner on how to attract Ding Ancheng’s attention. Her name was Wang Qiushuang.
Yi Roujing and Wang Qiushuang were not only members of the Xintang Production Team but also classmates from elementary through middle school. Compared to Yi Roujing, who was doted upon by her family, Wang Qiushuang was a major contributor to labor points at home.
The original owner befriended Wang Qiushuang because she had a pleasing voice, could praise others, and knew how to solicit sympathy. The original owner always thought of giving Wang Qiushuang something nice, over time not realizing how much she had given away. Sigh, such a loss, Yi Roujing reminisced from the original owner’s memory, feeling a bit sorry.
The blue long dress and white sweater Wang Qiushuang was wearing now were given to her by the original owner. Compared to Wang Qiushuang’s own clothes, this outfit really gave her some face.
When Yi Roujing looked down to eat, Wang Qiushuang had thought the person seemed familiar, but once she raised her head, she was surprised. Sitting with Yi Roujing was Ding Anmin. She had heard that Yi Roujing wasn’t getting along with her in-laws, so how did she end up coming to town with them, and even dining at a state-owned restaurant?
The other two, she didn’t know, but their outfits clearly indicated they weren’t from the countryside. More importantly, the four of them had ordered six dishes, mostly meat. Wang Qiushuang couldn’t help but salivate a bit.
"Roujing, what a coincidence," Wang Qiushuang smiled as she greeted Yi Roujing.
"Qiushuang, you’re in town too?" Yi Roujing glanced at the man ordering at the counter and smiled, "He looks nice, seems honest."
Wang Qiushuang felt awkward but more indignant. Although they both graduated from middle school, Yi Roujing was prettier, but she wasn’t bad herself. Her mind worked better surely, so why did Yi Roujing marry Ding Ancheng, while she had to look at a temp worker?
Also, Yi Roujing’s words annoyed her. What was she implying by saying Wang Qiushuang was only worthy of such a man?
"Roujing, don’t say nonsense; it’s not even close yet," Wang Qiushuang replied, displeased.
The original owner wouldn’t know Wang Qiushuang’s mental state, but Yi Roujing did. Her words were deliberately vexing, "Oh, no worries, I understand."
"Qiushuang," the man with the square face finished ordering and walked over, getting excited seeing the group of girls at the table, "Do you know them?"
