Transmigrated as Cannon Fodder — I Rise to Female Lead Through Hard Work-Chapter 170: Wan Baohua
"Oh dear, who’s this young lady? Could she be Wenjian’s wife?" Mrs. Huang looked at the young and graceful Hu Ailing, reached out to hold her hand, and asked with a smile.
Qin Suyun nodded with a smile, "The wedding is set for the end of the year."
"Good, good, that’s wonderful. The young lady looks nice, and her temperament seems gentle and sweet. She matches well with that lad Wenjian," Mrs. Huang said with delight in her eyes, looking at Hu Ailing with great satisfaction.
Qin Suyun was a bit surprised, though the elderly lady from the Huang family had always been kind, seeing her in such high spirits was rare. Besides, she wondered how the Huang family could be at ease letting the elderly lady go out alone.
"How come you’re out by yourself?" Qin Suyun invited them into the house, ushering them to the living room, while Hu Ailing went to make tea.
Today, Yi Roujing and Ding Anmin originally just intended to have a chat with Hu Ailing, and now here they were, sitting in the living room as well.
"I received a call from Baohua not long ago, saying that our baby has a girl he likes, so I’m here to see my granddaughter-in-law," Mrs. Huang said with a cheerful smile, her face full of joy.
"Really, that’s great, but you came alone?" Qin Suyun was more concerned about the whereabouts of the elderly lady from the Huang family.
"They are all very busy. My old man at home wanted to come too, but he’s tied up at the moment, so I came ahead to take a look on their behalf," Mrs. Huang said happily, proud to be the first to see her granddaughter-in-law.
"I’ll give Baohua’s workplace a quick call," Qin Suyun couldn’t sit still.
"Sister, last time we didn’t have a chance to dine together," Chen Guole obediently sat down beside Yi Roujing. Last time, because of the sudden transportation department incident at the food factory, Yi Roujing ended up in surgery and didn’t have dinner with Mei Qianyao and Chen Guole.
"Roujing, come dine at our home tonight. It’s fate that we meet today. If we don’t have this meal, we’ll always be thinking about it," Mei Qianyao said with a smile.
"Oh, right, the pretty girl who’s engaged is one of Xiao Chen’s soldiers, isn’t she?" Mrs. Huang asked, looking at Mei Qianyao.
"Yes," Mei Qianyao replied, covering her mouth with a handkerchief and laughing, "But Roujing is more of a life-saver for our Guole, a benefactor to our family."
"Absolutely, she’s part of our family too," Qin Suyun agreed as she returned from making a call, having overheard the conversation. "Our Wenjian met Ailing thanks to Roujing."
Now that Lou Wenjian was confident and successful in his work at the public security bureau, Qin Suyun felt relieved and appreciated Hu Ailing as her future daughter-in-law from the bottom of her heart.
Yi Roujing was genuinely happy for Hu Ailing, who had finally found her true destination.
"This really isn’t because of me. It’s fate between Brother Lou and Sister Ailing; as for Guole, he has his luck, and besides, I was appreciated by Mr. Chen, got the nurse job, and can help more people in the future. I’m truly glad," Yi Roujing said graciously.
After sitting in the living room for a while, Yi Roujing excused herself, as she had to work in the afternoon and couldn’t stay long. Mei Qianyao set a dinner date with them, saying she would invite Yi Roujing’s entire family to a state-run restaurant, and Yi Roujing agreed. Qin Suyun asked Hu Ailing to see them out.
"Oh dear, my baby’s partner must be just as beautiful and kind-hearted..."
Mrs. Huang started murmuring behind them.
However, Yi Roujing and the others didn’t pay attention and instead brought up the purpose of their visit.
"Roujing, is something wrong?" Hu Ailing asked.
"Wang Qiushuang has started working at the food factory as a temporary worker in the workshop. I fear you might run into each other since you’re both in the county. Just keep it in mind and let Brother Lou know. As for Ding Jianshe, I always felt something’s off with him, so it’s better to keep on guard," Yi Roujing said.
"I have nothing to do with him anymore," Hu Ailing said nonchalantly, "Even if we meet, we both have our own partners now. The past doesn’t matter; it’s over."
"I know you and Brother Lou, but Wang Qiushuang and Ding Jianshe are the type who can’t stand others having it better," Yi Roujing reminded softly. "In any case, mention it to Brother Lou, and he’ll know how to handle it."
"The Lou family has their stature, so even if Ding Jianshe and Wang Qiushuang wanted to cause trouble, they would have to think twice. You don’t need to worry too much, but make sure not to be alone when going out."
Hu Ailing nodded with a smile, "Roujing, thank you so much."
"You’re welcome, you’re welcome," Yi Roujing waved her hand, "My third brother’s matter was all thanks to Brother Lou’s help."
"I heard about that from Ajian, it was something he naturally should do." Hu Ailing replied.
"Sister Ailing, now that the wedding date is set, what about your family..." Yi Roujing inquired with concern.
"A few days ago, Ajian and I went over once. They were overjoyed, couldn’t be happier, and treated me with utmost kindness. I’ll definitely fulfill my filial duties from now on," Hu Ailing said.
The Lou family had already helped her older brother get a technician position at the commune to learn how to operate and repair tractors. Her family treated her like royalty now, and Hu Ailing shared all of this with Yi Roujing and Ding Anmin, putting their hearts at ease.
Gu Shizhao had returned to Jing City, and the choice for the tractor operator fell on Hu Ailing’s family, a fitting decision. While Gu Shizhao was temporary, this time it was official.
After finishing the conversation, Yi Roujing and Ding Anmin headed to the county government to inform Ding Anguo about the dinner at the state-run restaurant.
"Director Wan, is there something urgent..." Wan Baohua was restless after receiving a call from Qin Suyun. Her mother-in-law had quietly taken a train from Jing City all the way back.
Just after hearing the news, she called her sister-in-law, who rushed over to their parents’ home, only then learning that their mother-in-law had gone to Huaixi County. Her father-in-law reassured her, saying he personally arranged for someone to accompany her onto the train and received a call confirming her safe arrival at Huaixi County, letting her rest easy.
Knowing the outcome, Wan Baohua’s sister-in-law felt relieved, trusting that with her father-in-law arranging it, nothing would go wrong. However, she also felt guilty for being so busy that they neglected the old couple, having not visited them for many days, unaware of the situation.
Wan Baohua hurried back home after hanging up the phone but stopped outside the county government’s main entrance when she spotted Ding Anguo.
The girl across from him resembled him by about three parts. She had fair skin, red lips, white teeth, sparkling peach blossom eyes, a sharp nose, and a small, delicate face; she looked exceptionally well. This must be Ding Anmin.
Seeing her future daughter-in-law, Wan Baohua temporarily cast her mother-in-law from her mind. Her feet uncontrollably moved forward, and she involuntarily called out, "Anmin?"
Ding Anmin, hearing her name, turned and saw a pretty woman dressed in a blue short-sleeved top and similarly colored pants, wearing black leather shoes, calling her. Ding Anmin’s first reaction was one of confusion. She glanced around, confirming it was just the three of them and that she was indeed being called, "Are you calling me?"
