Transmigrated as an Unwanted Ugly Girl-Chapter 41 - 27: The Showdown Between Liu’er’s Mother and Juhua’s Mother
When Liu’er saw her mother appear, she first felt a wave of despair, followed by a sense of relief. ’Fine,’ she thought, ’it’s better that someone found out!’
But unexpectedly, her mother first unleashed a torrent of curses at Qingmu, then turned to cursing his father. Only then did Liu’er realize things were far from as simple as she had thought. Seeing the increasingly ugly expression on Qingmu’s face, her heart turned to ash.
Qingmu wasn’t worried when he saw Qin Feng—this man was refined and wouldn’t spread gossip. But upon seeing Liu’er’s mother, his heart sank. ’This is bad,’ he thought. ’There’s no way to explain this clearly.’
He had originally planned to just let her be. He’d let her curse him a bit, ignore her, and wait for it all to blow over. But he never expected Liu’er’s mother to open her mouth and unleash a torrent of abuse, dragging his entire family into it—not even sparing Juhua!
He clenched his fists tightly, the veins on his forehead bulging. He glared at Liu’er’s mother, his expression screaming, ’If you say one more word, I won’t be so polite!’
But Liu’er’s mother showed no signs of stopping. She was still fuming. ’What’s the matter? You think you’re in the right after seducing my daughter?’
She planted her hands on her hips and got right in Qingmu’s face. A lock of hair had fallen from her slick, neat bun due to her frantic movements. She shrieked, "What? You want to hit me? You shameless bastard, always up to some sneaky business..."
Liu’er desperately pulled at her mother’s arm, sobbing miserably. "Mother, let’s go home! Mother, I’m begging you!"
Qin Feng hadn’t expected things to escalate so dramatically. He quickly stepped forward to hold Qingmu back and keep him from doing anything rash. Then he tried to placate Liu’er’s mother, "Ma’am, I think you’ve misunderstood. Qingmu was just exchanging a few words with Liu’er. It’s not what you think. Please go home now, it’s not good to shout where everyone can hear!"
But this only fanned the flames of Liu’er’s mother’s anger. Recalling the frustration she had just endured at the Zheng Family’s home, she yelled, "Misunderstanding? No one in his family is any good! They raise a wretched girl and still dream of marrying her off to a decent man. You offer them a betrothal gift of four taels of silver and they still look down on it. Have you seen her looks? No one would want her even if she were free! I thought the son was decent, but who knew he’s a scoundrel too, seducing an innocent young maiden! This whole family is rotten to the core..."
As long as she was cursing Qingmu over the matter with Liu’er, he had been holding back. He figured it was just a misunderstanding that would eventually pass if he endured it. But now that she was dragging Juhua into it and bringing up some betrothal gift, how could he possibly tolerate it any longer?
He violently shook off Qin Feng’s hand, strode right up to Liu’er’s mother, and gave her a shove that sent her stumbling. "What did you say?" he roared. "Who was talking about a marriage proposal? Who was talking about a betrothal gift? Are you going to keep spouting nonsense?"
That really did it!
Liu’er’s mother lunged at him like a woman possessed, grabbing onto Qingmu tightly and ramming her head into his chest. A stream of filth poured from her mouth as she continued to babble on about the matchmaking attempt for Juhua. This made Qingmu even angrier. He shoved her to the ground without hesitation, wishing he could just kick her.
Liu’er’s mother threw a full-blown tantrum. She scrambled back to her feet and started screaming curses in the direction of the Zheng Family’s home. Her shrieks were so loud they carried throughout all of Qingnan Village, naturally reaching the ears of Yang Family!
She saw a growing crowd gathering at the edge of the village and knew something was wrong. ’What’s gotten into that wretched woman?’ she fumed. ’How dare she make such a scene that the whole village knows what happened?’ At the same time, a fire ignited in her heart. ’Does she think I’m some pushover?’
So, she turned to say a word to Juhua, then stormed toward the edge of the village, radiating killing intent.
By this time, most of the villagers had swarmed to the scene.
It was hard not to hear the high-pitched shrieks of Liu’er’s mother. Men and women, young and old, emerged continuously from the spiderweb of village paths, and soon a large circle had formed.
Qin Feng sighed at the sight. He couldn’t hold them back, so he had no choice but to send someone to quickly find the village chief, Li Gengtian.
Yang Family was normally a straightforward woman who doted on her children. Her husband, Zheng Changhe, was simple and honest, so she made most of the decisions at home. When she got fired up, she was no pushover.
She rushed up to Liu’er’s mother like a whirlwind, rolled up her sleeves, spat "Ptooey!" at her, and cursed, "You damn hag, what’s gotten into you? Who are you cursing? You think I’m easy to bully?"
Liu’er’s mother immediately jumped up to respond. She had been cursing for a while with no one talking back and was starting to get bored. Qingmu had only shoved her, refusing to get into a shouting match.
When these two met, it was like two planets colliding. They each showed their prowess, airing all of each other’s dirty laundry.
In the midst of their back-and-forth, the onlookers and peacemakers finally understood what had happened. It turned out the whole thing was sparked by the matchmaking attempt for Juhua and the private meeting between Qingmu and Liu’er.
