Transmigrated as a Third-Rate Villain in a Doomed Novel-Chapter 35: The Real Show [I]
Before Elias could speak, a voice cut through.
"Cough, cough."
It was loud.
"Sorry, sorry. How about we start, huh?!"
The voice echoed again, loud and enthusiastic this time.
Elias and Evelyn also turned to glance towards the upcoming sound.
A man wearing a black coat and pants stood in the middle of the Colosseum.
"Are we not excited? Why are there no cheers, dear patrons?"
"Fuck your cheers; start it already."
"Yeah, we have been waiting for too long."
"Booo!"
"Ok, I think we have really delayed a lot," the man, the host, said. "But you see, there’s a very important reason behind our delay."
"Did your wife finally give a fuck?"
"Oh, no, no. My wife didn’t give a fuck. But instead, we have something much greater than my dead wife. We have the presence of a VIP with us today."
"———"
Silence.
The silence curtained the whole Colosseum before; a few minutes later, some guy cheered.
"Oh yeah!"
Following him, the whole Colosseum once more erupted in cheers.
"We’re getting something nice to see today, aren’t we?!" 𝑓𝘳𝘦𝑒𝑤𝑒𝘣𝘯ℴ𝘷𝘦𝓁.𝑐𝑜𝑚
"Of course. A VIP is here; of course, we are!"
"Yes," the host nodded, bowing towards Elias before turning back towards the audience. "Today’s events are going to be filled with special events. So enjoy!
"Oh yeah!"
Following that, the host moved out of the Colosseum.
After the host moved out, the iron bars on the walls of the Colosseum rattled.
Clink—clank—rattle
With the eerie sound and dust falling, the iron gates, a total of 9, started opening one by one as the sound of iron grinding echoed, filling the surroundings.
Grind...
’It’s starting,’ Elias thought, and sneaked a glance at Evelyn’s side profile and saw her furrowed brows.
’Can she sense all of them?!’
Breaking his thought and sucking the color out of Evelyn’s face, a man tumbled out of one of the gates.
His body was emaciated. His face was sunken and his eyes lifeless.
The man shivered due to weakness as he tried to stand up properly by supporting himself with his shriveled body.
However, before he could. More followed from behind, trampling him.
More and more men, women, and children started to fill the ground of the Colosseum, exiting from all 9 iron gates. They were people of all types of age groups, mostly with emaciated and weak bodies.
As all of them gathered, filling the ground, the host’s voice echoed once more.
"Ladies and gentlemen, if you didn’t know, let me tell you, our first event is Deathmatch."
"Yes!"
The crowd cheered, downing whatever they were drinking.
Following this statement of his, the host started to explain the rules. "So, the rules are simple: you can bet on the color or a specific number that is present on the participants that you think will win. And if you win, then money, I guess. Or something more exciting!"
The host continued to excite the audience as—
Knock, knock.
—A sound came suddenly.
Elias, hearing the knock, simply spoke.
"Come in."
Click
The attendant entered.
"My lord, would you like to bet?"
She asked, bowing her head.
"I am not interested at the moment. If that changes, I shall call for you."
Elias answered, not even turning towards her.
"Yes, my lord," the attendant said. "Just ring the bell; I will answer immediately. If you need anything else, please do call me. I will be blessed to serve you."
"Hm."
After that, the attendant left. However, Elias’s head never went towards the attendant.
His eyes stared at the crowd of audience sitting in the Colosseum seats. They were betting as people wearing pants and coats ran to accept their bets.
Following that, the host once more spoke up. His voice echoed, but this time, the hosts spoke to the crowd on the Colosseum’s ground.
"As you all know, this is a death game. After winning this game, not only will you be freed, but you will also get a large amount of money and drugs, of course. An amount you will not even be able to spend. So, how about you start now? The game is simple."
He stopped before his voice tore through. Enthusiasm laced his tone as the audience in the Colosseum went crazy.
"The last one standing will win!"
The people in the Colosseum didn’t even move.
The children and younger kids only stared at the others, while the adults and older people simply stood there, zoned out like brainless zombies.
Drugs have affected almost all of them. However, some sane people were there too, glancing here and there.
"I—"
"Hold your horses," Elias said, stopping Evelyn.
"What do you mean, hold your horses? Can’t you see how many people’s lives are in danger?"
"I can," Elais nodded. "But think about it. If you even go there and save their life, the person who is behind all of this will leave. He will prioritize his safety over anything else, and what will happen next? All of this will not be stopped. So, your emotions will not only cause problems but also increase the risk of us dying."
"If you are scared, just sit—"
"Evelyn," Elias spoke, his face sinking blankly. "You are not saving anyone by being like this. You are not changing anything. You are just getting a small time to breathe if you save the people there."
Elias pointed towards the people in the Colessum.
"Think with your head. How can an underground Colosseum be in a slum? It would need money, power, and above all, something more to work under the nose of a baron. I know that you are powerful, but not enough to freely run around and clash with anything that comes in front of you," Elias said as he saw Evelyn’s body going stiff.
Yet, he continued.
"So, if you go there and save those people who have already destroyed their bodies by cheap drugs, you are not saving anyone. You are just increasing the degree of danger. Not only for them, but for us too."
Evelyn blinked. Then she sank into her sofa, biting her nails.
"So you have a plan?"
"Yes," Elias nodded, turning back towards the people in the arena.
Fear.
It was prevalent in the crowd on the grounds of the Colosseum.
Even zombie-looking ones started to respond to their surroundings as the reality of the situation started to sink in.
Almost all the people—around 100 in number—were looking scared, apart from some children who couldn’t comprehend what was going on.
But those who could, in addition to adults, glanced here and there, up and down, as if wishing someone would save them.
"We have to let the game continue."
Elias’s voice echoed in the room.
"You want all of them to die."
"Yes," Elias nodded again. His face turned towards Evelyn.
Someone from the crowd in the Colosseum screamed. The audience went crazy as a person killed a small girl by suffocating her.
The mother was crying as she saw her daughter getting suffocated. But her tears didn’t last for long as someone from behind broke her neck.
Crack!
The audience couldn’t contain its excitement as the game finally started to take its bloody shape.
"No, my team!"
"You should have bet on red; I told you to, haha."
"Fuck your green team."
However, despite all the chaos taking place, Elias’s eyes glowed. His hazel orbs stared into the depths of Evelyn’s red eyes.
"We have to wait," he muttered. "Wait until he himself comes to meet us. And he will. Kade Blunt will come to meet us, and then we can end it all."
"Save me!"
"... mommy..."
The screams continued.
Elias turned back towards the Colessum. The audience screamed with all their might, going crazy. The people in the Colosseum mostly ran here and there, while some started killing others.
Teeth bared, nails cut, and hands strangled.
Kids, children, men, women, old or adult—no one was spared by the crazy ones who were drooling for their next kill.
Elias, seeing all this, felt his stomach churn. The guilt ate him as he saw people he could have saved die.
However, in some part of his heart, he was also relieved that he had chosen himself over others.
"When the time comes, I will tell you," he muttered almost mechanically as he continued to watch the blood war. "You can then do what you want. Kill everyone present in the audience and working for this underground arena. For all of them deserved to die."
As his words registered, Evelyn closed her eyes. She herself knew that Elias was speaking the truth. But even then, she just couldn’t contain her feelings.
’Today is really not a good day.’
Tearing through her thoughts, the scream of the dying people echoed. The audience’s chanting filled the surroundings, mixing with the brutality of the entertainment they consumed.
"Kill, kill, kill!"
"Please spare me... sniff..."
As some begged, some killed. As some cried that they lost the bet, some laughed that they won.
Elias simply continued to watch as the brutality kept increasing, with the audience throwing knives, swords, and drugs.
Evelyn, meanwhile, closed her eyes, shutting her hearing off so she could contain her emotions.
"Yes! Slice her legs! Do it!"
"... sniff... mom!"
