Chapter 346: Chapter 238: No Connection

Wild pheasants and rabbits aren’t rare anymore, and the family raises quite a few. Even if the two discovered some, they wouldn’t really care.

Mainly, they were looking for the pigskin purslane that Xiaomi wanted to eat.

Xiaomi has been thinking about it for a long time. Today, there wasn’t anything else going on, so they came specifically to find it.

Lo and behold, they finally found a large patch of fishwort, which Xiaoxue called pigskin purslane, beside a small stream branching off from the brook.

The freshly sprouted fishwort was covered with a layer of fallen leaves, and its tender shoots poked through the leaves.

Push aside the fallen leaves, and the fishwort with pink, tender stems could be picked without needing to dig.

Xiaomi was overjoyed; this was definitely her favorite part to eat, so tender and crunchy!

"Second sister, let’s dig a bit more, and sort it out when we get back. The old roots can be buried in the garden, and when they sprout, they can be eaten again!" 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝕨𝕖𝗯𝚗𝚘𝕧𝕖𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝕞

As Xiaomi spoke, she had her back to her second sister, and mixed in some fishwort from her space.

She had prepared for this in her space a long time ago, just waiting for the right opportunity, and today she finally found it.

"Alright, there are quite a lot here. We’ll come back in the afternoon to dig more. As long as we don’t wash them and keep them in a cool place, they can last for several days."

They had searched for so long to find this patch, they definitely needed to prepare more.

Moreover, in a few days, she’d be going to the embroidery workshop, and no one would accompany Xiaomi up the mountain.

"Okay!" Xiaomi was, of course, eager.

The sisters dug up all the visible fishwort within their field of vision, filling one of their small back baskets to the brim.

Even so, there was no worry about overharvesting here, as there were still many old roots underground that hadn’t been dug up.

In about a month, new fishwort would grow out again.

When the two finally felt satisfied and were ready to head home, it was almost noon.

On the way back, Xiaomi carried those three large bamboo shoots, while Xiaoxue carried a back basket full of fishwort, with leaves, roots, and tender stems all included.

All packed together, to be slowly sorted when they got home.

When they returned to the place where the book was thrown, Xiaomi’s eyes twinkled, and she let go of her second sister’s hand and ran to the side.

"Second sister, there’s something over there!" she called out as she quickly picked up a book from the ground: "Why is there a book here, ’Carefree Swordsmanship’? What a strange title."

While speaking, she casually flipped through it and pouted, "Blank pages, nothing at all. Second sister, look, could this have been discarded by someone?"

Xiaoxue leaned over to take a look, indeed it was blank.

"Probably someone bought a fake book, felt cheated, and tossed it away."

Seeing this, Xiaomi knew her second sister wasn’t the destined person, so she casually closed the book and tucked it under her arm.

"Since no one wants it, I’ll take it. There are so many blank pages left, we can write something in it. What a waste to throw it away, Xuan paper is so expensive."

Xiaoxue nodded in deep agreement, without a hint of suspicion, allowing Xiaomi to boldly take the book home.

At lunchtime, she’d let her parents take a look.

Yet Xiaomi had a feeling, her family probably wasn’t the destined ones.

For no particular reason, it’s just a simple intuition.

Indeed, as Xiaomi predicted, when the family returned at noon, Xiaomi showed the ’picked up’ book to her parents, one by one, and nothing happened.

She even let Liu Bo, Seven Joy, and Aunt Yang see it, with no reaction whatsoever.

Unsurprisingly, Xiaomi took it back and placed it by her bedside, not planning to put it into her space for now.

On the way back home at noon, she studied the book. Although it looked just like ordinary Xuan paper, it was somewhat different.

At the very least, the paper in this book was very tough, not easily torn or soaked.

However, upon realizing that the book would disappear after being read by the right person, it indicated that this was no ordinary item.

In the afternoon, after eating her favorite pigskin purslane, some sorted old roots were separated and buried in the courtyard, watered with Spiritual Spring water as well.

She believed that soon, a large patch would grow in the courtyard, and there’d be no need to go up the mountain to dig.

During the nap in the afternoon, as she passed by the pond in the main courtyard, Xiaomi watched by the water for a while and secretly sprinkled a handful of earthworms into it.

Inside the pond, there were not only fish and water hyacinths but also a pair of large adult turtles, one male and one female, which she had recently introduced.

The small courtyard by the study had a shoal where she’d poured Spiritual Spring water to lure the turtles over.

If these two turtles lay eggs, they’d surely know where to go.

After a few days, she planned to use bamboo fences to enclose the area between the courtyard and the pond, so she could breed turtles right in her own courtyard.
