Chapter 333: Chapter 234: Digging Bamboo Shoots (2)

It’s been time to plant corn recently, and soon after, the previously grown sorghum seedlings need to be replanted.

So after breakfast, except for the boys going to school, all the adults went to the fields, leaving Xiaoxue to feed the pigs, chickens, and the peacock, Xiaomi, at home.

She also needs to cook lunch, and sometimes when it’s too busy, she’ll help with the laundry.

It’s only in the afternoon that there’s a bit of free time, allowing for embroidery or reading.

Speaking of which, Xiaomi ends up being the least busy of them all.

Upon hearing her mother mention cooking, Xiaomi paused, coincidentally spotting Uncle Qixi and her father arriving with the ox cart. Her eyes rolled, and she responded.

"Okay, I’ll head back first then."

"Alright, be careful on the way."

"Don’t worry, Mom. It’s so close."

With that, Xiaomi pranced home, even meeting her father and Uncle Qixi on the way, and she greeted them with a cheerful smile. 𝐟𝕣𝗲𝕖𝕨𝗲𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝗲𝚕.𝗰𝚘𝐦

As she neared the house, Xiaomi glanced around and saw no one nearby.

Nonetheless, she crouched down, using the roadside weeds as cover, and pulled out a cauliflower snake from the space.

With one hand holding down the snake’s vital point, she picked up a nearby stone with the other hand, and with a few bangs, the snake was left limp.

Whistling, Xiaomi dragged the over-one-meter-long snake and made her way home briskly.

Due to the relocation, the new home’s poultry farming hadn’t developed yet; every few days, the steward from Liu Bo’s house brought eggs from Fu’an Village.

In other words, while the family wasn’t lacking food and drink, they were definitely worse off than when in Fu’an Village.

The vegetables planted at home were not ready for eating, and they were also reluctant to kill the chickens, ducks, and geese daily, leaving Xiaomi with no opportunity to rotate dishes.

Today, she could act solo; the snake had been raised in the space for half a month, so its taste must be quite good.

This cauliflower snake wasn’t small, estimated to weigh three or four pounds. If Xiaomi hadn’t acted quickly, it likely would have slipped out of her grip and escaped.

With so many family members at home, this snake was just right for a meal.

With this thought, Xiaomi couldn’t help but almost whistle again, happily pushing open the back door to find her sister.

"Second sister, come quick, I caught something good!"

Her voice arrived before she did; Jiang Xiaoxue had just started cooking rice, wondering what to prepare for lunch when Xiaomi’s voice came from the backyard.

"What did you catch?" Jiang Xiaoxue put down the eggs and stepped out, seeing Xiaomi coming over, dragging something with her.

Taking a closer look, she was instantly shocked: "That’s a huge snake! How did you catch it?"

The snake’s head had been smashed to a pulp, its vital point gripped in Xiaomi’s hand, its body dragging on the ground, the snake was as thick as Xiaomi’s wrist.

They had eaten snake meat before, but such a big one was indeed a rarity.

"I saw it on my way back from the fields just now. I picked up a rock and threw it, who knew it would hit the snake’s head directly, flattening it instantly."

Xiaomi cheerfully dragged the cauliflower snake into the kitchen: "Second sister, where should I put this? Let’s wait for big brother and the others to come back tonight and enjoy it together!"

That’s why it’s necessary to have a big snake; with so many people at home, if it were too small, there wouldn’t even be enough for everyone to have a sip of soup.

"Alright." Jiang Xiaoxue followed behind Xiaomi, seeing her about to place the snake in a wooden barrel, she quickly stopped her.

"Let me process it first, cure it with some salt; it’s very hot today, it might go bad by tonight."

Xiaomi thought that made sense: "Alright then, you handle this, second sister. Is there anything else that needs help?"

Jiang Xiaoxue pointed to the wild onions beside her: "I dug those up this morning, clean them up. We’ll sauté them with smoked pork for lunch."

"Sure thing."

Wild onions are a bit different from spring onions, more like chives; they not only can be sautéed with smoked pork but can also be stir-fried alone or even served as a cold dish.

However, the cold dish version has a more pungent taste, which children usually aren’t fond of, so they typically stir-fry it, which adds a slight sweetness and is exceptionally fragrant.

Back in Fu’an Village, Xiaomi hadn’t seen these before; she didn’t expect them to be everywhere in Xiangmu Village, and her parents obviously recognized them.

The wild onions had been freshly dug in the morning, still fresh; Xiaomi directly took half and replaced them with some from the space.

Knowing the wild onions were edible and delicious, there was no way they wouldn’t be planted in the space!

Although they had only been planted for a few days, they had absorbed a bit of spiritual energy.

With the recent farming rush, they’d be busy for at least ten days; if they didn’t eat well, they feared their bodies would get worn out from exhaustion.
