Transmigrated as a Peasant Baby Who is Pampered by All-Chapter 304 - 224: The Grand Courtyard (Part 3)
Xiaomi snapped back to reality and grinned: "It’s nothing, I just spaced out a bit. Bro, do you think the people in the village are all cursing us now?"
The village she mentioned wasn’t Xiangmu Village but Fu’an Village.
Wei Ziang shook his head: "Let them curse if they want. We’re not their private property. Where we choose to live is our own business."
He likely said this to ease Xiaomi’s worry, and he patted her hair afterward.
"Xiaomi, don’t think about it anymore. Since we’re resettled in Xiangmu Village, let’s settle in here peacefully. After all, spring planting is about to begin."
Xiaomi nodded cheerfully: "I understand, we’ll live our own lives, no matter what others think."
She glanced at her parents. The steamed buns were ready, Jiang Hu was tidying up the table, and Second Mother was placing the steamed buns in a large bamboo sieve.
Their expressions didn’t change, suggesting they weren’t bothered by what the two kids had said.
Xiaomi felt satisfied. That’s good; she wasn’t worried about her siblings overthinking; she just didn’t want her parents to be bothered.
But clearly, she was overthinking it.
"Smells delicious." Jiang Yu and the others came over, instinctively rolling up their sleeves to wash their hands before eating.
Second Mother set the bamboo sieve aside and took out a jar to scoop congee: "Xiao Yu, Xiao Xue, bring these to the front. Qi Xi and the others are in the front yard."
Qi Xi and the few servants who came with Liu Ze were in the front yard. When Qi Xi was first at the Jiangs’, before Uncle Liu came, and there weren’t as many people at home, Qi Xi ate with them.
Later, Uncle Liu arrived with Aunt Yang, so Qi Xi and Aunt Yang had separate meals in the front yard, and it remained that way.
Jiang Hu and Second Mother didn’t mind, but the two servants who came with Liu Ze were clearly too shy to eat at the same table as the young master.
When Jiang Yu and Xiao Xue returned, everyone sat down to eat.
Steamed buns, congee, and pickles, with a fried egg each.
Xiaomi took a bite of the fragrant egg, knowing it was from their own chickens, seemingly brought by Liu Ze from his home.
This kind of breakfast would be considered simple for Liu Ze, yet he enjoyed it thoroughly.
"It’s been a year since I had Aunt’s cooking. It’s still the best."
In a year, Liu Ze’s compliments had become more natural, making Second Mother smile brightly, though she felt a bit heartache, too.
"Eat more if you like it. Look at you, how did you get so skinny? How about you come over to eat here from now on? Your Uncle Jiang can buy a carriage; it’s not far to school."
Casually suggesting buying a carriage wasn’t something Second Mother would have said before, not even in Fu’an Village.
Now, however, she said it naturally, and Xiaomi felt that moving had somehow changed their mother, though she couldn’t pinpoint how.
Liu Ze didn’t expect the invitation and was overjoyed, quickly saying, "Thank you, Aunt!"
Jiang Hu then mentioned, "You still need to discuss it with your parents and grandfather, see what they think."
Liu Ze hadn’t even had a chance to respond when Second Mother gave Jiang Hu a sharp look.
"Uncle Liu and the others surely won’t refuse. Look at how skinny Xiao Ze has become! The little bit of weight he gained over the years is almost gone again."
Xiaomi then looked carefully at Liu Ze, a bit speechless: "Mom, aren’t you exaggerating a bit? I think Ze just grew taller."
He indeed grew taller fast, and the weight couldn’t keep up. It just seemed like he got suddenly thinner, but he’s healthy.
After all, last year they sent plenty of eggs, rice, and grains to the county; it was just the vegetables that weren’t plentiful.
However, in Second Mother’s eyes, skinny meant skinny. Although Liu Ze wasn’t her son, she had raised him for several years, nurturing him from a sickly child to a healthy boy.
In Second Mother’s heart, Liu Ze might as well be her son.
"I just think Xiao Ze has gotten thinner. Anyway, since we’re close to the county now, Xiao Ze can eat here and then go back. Or stay a few days and then come back, that’s fine too."
Jiang Hu and Xiaomi exchanged helpless smiles, glad that Liu Ze’s parents weren’t there. It sounded as if they were trying to take him away from the Liu family.
But Liu Ze clearly shared Second Mother’s thoughts: "Aunt, then I’ll have someone move my stuff here this afternoon."
"Sure, no problem!"
Second Mother agreed eagerly, her happiness unmistakable.
