Chapter 51: 51: Villainous Parents’ Misadventures VI

"Jay..." Jay Pleng whispered to her partner as her hand gripped the back of his shirt. "You’re going to be okay. I got the pills with me. We just need a place for you to rest."

There’s nothing she could do but to give him placebo. Even though she studied the Wonder Liquid before the faithful day that her father took her to Mr. Romanov’s house, she didn’t really remember the long term side effects of not getting a dosage for more than a month. She only knew that missing more than three consecutive dosage would make a war machine very aggressive and sometimes crazy, doing whatever it takes to get some.

Her partner has been off the liquid for over a month. Thus, she’s been feeding him painkillers whenever the side effects got too bad. She told him that he could totally cut it off, and that the side effects are just normal withdrawal symptoms.

Jay Pleng was fooling herself as much as she was fooling him.

Her blade was still in the air, pointing at the Wonder Soldier just in case he decided to be stupid and attack them.

The teenage boy’s hand squeezed her bicep as he leaned in closer. "Yeah, I’m gonna be fine, Jay."

He was close enough that she could feel his breath on her cheeks...

"How do you even survive this long without the Wonder Liquid?" Eugene’s voice displayed genuine concern with a hint of curiosity.

"’Cause I’m stronger than you, brother." A chuckle made it’s way from his throat. Even though he’s leaning on to Jay for support, the teenage boy gave his brother a smug grin. "How about you consider my little lady’s offer? You shut up about us, and we’ll never see you again."

His little lady, huh?

Jay will yell at him later for that nickname.

The last Wonder Soldier stood still for a moment as he actually considered their offer. Sure, they killed his remaining cousins, but he knew about the atrocities that they committed. Most of those atrocities were orders, such as them having a scout mission in the slums and eliminating any criminal on their hitlist. Some of those atrocities were for fun, such as when his teammates took the guns from their fallen opponents to play with.

For some reason, Eugene didn’t want to kill his favorite brother, the guy who’s responsible for his entire family falling apart in the first place. Not that he could kill his brother anyway with Jay around. Shooting at her would lead to his brother physically defend her with his life, just like he did moments prior.

"Deal." The Last Wonder Soldier sighed after he pleaded.

"Great." Jay Pleng’s grin widened, and he rested his head on his companion’s.

"Let’s get you inside." Jay gave the Wonder Soldier one last glare before she began dragging her partner to the closest civilian house.

When the mother of three welcomed them back inside, Eugene Romanov was already gone from the neighborhood.

The young Red King was laid down on the floor, and Jay immediately crouched down to check his wounds. War machines are very fast self-healers, but their wounds would sometimes heal incorrectly if not give proper care and attention.

As promised, she took out a small bottle of pain killers from her cargo pants pocket, and she shoved a pill into his lips before pouring down half of the water inside her flask.

Her partner almost choked from the water, but he navigated it just fine but lifting his head up a little. The glare he gave her was well deserved.

"Shut up." She hissed at him as soon as he opened his mouth.

The teenage boy promptly bit down on his lips to keep quiet while Jay got to work on his injuries. She pulled out the last of the bullets, but unfortunately, their first aid kit is outside in the motorcycle, and both of them knew it was a bad idea to go back outside in this situation.

One of the three children were staring at them while his siblings were occupied with helping their mother cook. The boy’s wide brown eyes blinked back when Jay diverted her attention to him.

"Don’t worry. He’ll be fine." The girl assured him as she patted her hand on her partner’s chest.

Her words not only assured him, but it also reassured her. Hell, she didn’t even know if he’s going to be fine without the Wonder Liquid.

That night, they stayed at the woman’s house.

Jay Pleng was shivering and shaking in his sleep. Meanwhile, Jay Pleng was up all night keeping watch over her partner. They agreed long ago that if they’re at an insecured place, one of them must keep watch at all times.

He was curled up on the floor with his head held in between his arms. Under the flickering yellow light, Jay gently ran her fingers through his jet black hair to hopefully soothe him. And just like that, she found herself taking his head to rest on her thighs. She could feel his heart beat racing unevenly, but it was better than the first night they shared the same room. Back then she could feel him shaking in his sleep all the way from her bed.

She didn’t know when they began being close to each other. Jay hates physical touch in general, but the warmth of her partner’s skin and his vulnerability was enough for her to hold him for tonight and many nights to come.

Just a feet away from them slept the family of a single mother and her three children.

The second time they had to spend the night at the single mother’s shabby house, the woman lost an eye.

There was a shooting in town, and she lost one of her children. She kept asking for the little girl as Jay was wrapping bandages around her head after she pulled the bullet out of her skull. Fortunately for the single mother, the bullet didn’t hit her brain.

Out of pity or guilt or just returning the favor, the two Jays stayed the night once again so that they could take care of what’s left of the family. The teenage boy distracted the two remaining kids with stories of long gone warriors and monsters while his partner was nursing the mother’s injuries.

Eventually, the two sons stopped asking about their missing sister. One of them called their mother "Pirate" because she’s going to wear an eye patch.

_______

Five months later, they had fallen into a comfortable routine of waking up at wee hours at the night, look at each other across the room, drink water, and go back to sleep.

Tonight was no different from any other night. Jay was sitting on his bed, drenched in sweat as he gulped down his water. His nightmares didn’t get any better without the Wonder drug, and when he wakes, his light sleeper roommate wakes too.

The other Jay silently looked at him before she picked up a bottle of water from her side of the room and gulped down too.

For unknown reasons, the sight brought a smile to the male Jay Pleng’s face. Jay Pleng Jue was the daughter of the infamously stubborn Dr. Jue, who was both rich in resources, in knowledge and in power. All of his kids live in comfort, even his first born daughter Jay Pleng Jue.

And yet here she is, in a shaby room with a former Wonder Soldier, inside the heart of the Villain’s operations. How far had she fallen, from outside of her father’s cage, she smiled back at Jay Pleng. It’s just a small lift at the corner of her lips, but it was enough to get his heart beating a little faster and his own lips to involuntarily smile as well.

"What are you smiling about, you giant asshole?" She mumbled as she put her water bottle down.

"Nothing." Jay Pleng laid back down on the mattress, but he could still feel her creepy eyes on him. "Go back to sleep."

"Fine, fine." The other Jay responded before she snuggled into her blanket.

Morning came, and Jay Pleng woke up first. His partner was still in bed, so he made his way to the communal bathroom and showered. Once he returned to their shared bedroom, she was gone from her bed, so it’s safe to assume she wet to the bathroom, too.

His routine continued when he gathered up their laundry into his arms and headed to the laundromat. After he did his little chore, she joined him there to bring their dried clothes back to their bedroom.

No words were exchanged between them as they made their way to the mini cafeteria for breakfast. The cafeteria was as busy as usual, and they grabbed three sandwiches and two cartons of milk before sitting at the very far end of the table.

Surprisingly, after the last raid on their base, the Villains grew in size, mostly thanks to Lady Red’s sister, Lady Blue who went out to recruit across the continent. Their little headquarters was now a bit crowded, but the two Jays decide to eat in the cafeteria anyways.

After breakfast, they got to work. He called out the name of one of the new recruits who was temporarily placed in on the base. The new recruit followed him to a room with a single chair in the middle and sat down. The young Red King told the new recruit that he would restraint them with ropes to keep them from screaming during the procedure.

And if they ask what procedure, Jay Pleng would kindly told them to look back at when they’re first recruited and remind themselves about the requirements. One of the requirements was having a serial number tattoo at the back of their necks just in case they die and when their body was recovered, they know who the body belonged to. They can even choose their own number as long as it’s different from everyone else.

After that, the other Jay made her way out of the shadows of the room and began the procedure. The new recruit might ask about the sharp pain that happened once or twice during the tattooing, but the young scientist attributed it to her lack of skill. With the chip inserted and tattoo finished, the new recruit was kicked out of the room.

If the new recruit refused to get the procedure, the teens would just knock them out one way or another. So far, no one disagreed with the procedure.

On a good day, they could take a dozen or more new recruits. On bad days, they had to go on a mission or even sent to fight off the USC in another base. One thing was constant throughout all that: Jay Pleng Jue didn’t talk to anyone unless it’s her companion, and in battle, she preferred to be hidden away.

_______

Their routine was broken after they ran out of new recruits and Lady Red went into hiding. The base was turned from a hubspot for new recruits to a secluded meeting place. Underneath the base, there was a system of tunnels running through the area, cutting through the forest and reaching the beach.

Rumors whispered that Lady Red was hiding in the small rooms inside of the tunnel system. They weren’t far from the truth.

Kaon was born a little after midnight. His cries echoed throughout the tunnels as Ayala wrapped him in his new blanket. She handed the baby to Jay Pleng, who sang to the baby in low voices before she handed the baby to her companion.

Jay Pleng almost shed a tear as he watched the little newborn baby wiggled in his arms.

He got to hold the baby twice before he was sent away to help the Villains win battles and secure bases. Meanwhile, his companion spent a lot of her waking moments within the baby’s reach.

As the baby grew, they spent a lot more time apart until a package was delivered to the deepest part of the tunnel one day. It had "Jay Pleng" and a date written on it.

She took the package delivered by Ayala. The contents of the package was obviously not hers, but Jay Pleng giggled to herself as she put on his pajamas and shoes.
