Chapter 104: Day One of Training

Chapter One Hundred and Four

Ahmet sat across from the man, drumming his fingers against the table. This was getting tedious. They hadn’t gone through the trouble of kidnapping him just to watch him sleep. He should have woken up by now.

A low, muffled hum broke the silence.

"Hmmm... hmmm... hmmm."

Ahmet’s gaze flicked to the bound figure, whose face remained hidden beneath the cloth. Finally.

Ahmet flicked his fingers, signaling his man to remove the cloth and tape from the captive’s mouth. freewёbnoνel.com

"What the hell? Who are y—" The man’s voice caught as his eyes adjusted to the light. "Ahmet?" Disbelief filled in his tone. "What is the meaning of this?"

Ahmet had heard about him, that he never feared a damned thing. That he’d still run his mouth with a gun pointed to his head.

He liked him.

Ahmet offered a small, and amused smile. "Apologies for the... unconventional invitation."

"Invitation my ass. Untie me. Right now!" the man barked, his anger flaring.

Ahmet sighed, shaking his head. "I was considering it... but unfortunately for you, I do not take orders well. And now, I have changed my mind."

Ahmet leaned forward, his voice steady, but deliberate, trying to intimidate him.

But knowing a man like him, that wouldn’t work. And the more he thought of it, the more he wanted him.

"You do realize that I do not owe this Villa my loyalty? I don’t belong to your family, nor do I follow your rules. So let me be clear— if you so much as lay a finger on me, I will come back and burn this place to the ground. Believe me." Cole’s eyes were sharp, as his threat sounded determined.

Ahmet chuckled. "Stop being dramatic, Cole. Let’s skip the pretense. Asli accused you wrongly. She asked you to leave the Villa. That’s unacceptable. You deserve better than that. You’ve served the Villa all your life only to be treated like a thief. But here, that is not how we do things. We care for everyone. I want you on my team."

Cole scoffed. "Keep wanting."

"Deviant," Ahmet mused, shaking his head. "Just like your boss, Asli..."

And as if the name coming from Ahmet’s mouth was forbidden, Cole yelled, "Clear off."

Ahmet leaned back, his smirk growing. "You do know that just as I have extended this invitation, so will every other organization. They will want you. And they won’t stop until they have you. They will kill you afterwards. You know that. Pick the wise option. Work with me. Not for me."

If not for Ahmet’s quick reflexes, Cole’s spit would have landed right on his face.

"Go burn in hell," Cole growled.

Ahmet’s smile didn’t waver. His voice dropped to a low whisper. "Cole... I am hell."

"I know." He responded and damn, Ahmet wanted him the most.

*********

Markus was the first to arrive at the training room. He had never trained a female before. Let alone one that isn’t in the business. Matilda had never held a gun, how was he supposed to train her?

Yet, he did not say no when Asli had asked him to train her. She had never asked him to do anything out of duty before so he wanted to do this one.

Not to impress her but well, he knew she thought he didn’t know how to fight.

Oh how he couldn’t wait to show her how wrong she was.

Hopefully Matilda would be a fast learner. And fighting, came with rules, which she had broken a few.

One, a fighter was never late. Two, he or she dressed like he was ready for a fight.

Matilda was not only late, but she was dressed like she was going ballet dancing.

"Sorry I’m late. I was helping my aunt prepare..."

"I don’t need to know. Just be early next time." He dismissed as he pointed to her outfit. "Is this the best you have?"

"The first time we were supposed to meet, I wore one of Asli’s dresses but you cancelled. If you wanted to see me in a cute outfit..."

"Never mind." He mentioned, stopping her from speaking anymore.

’Why is he so serious with her?’ It was strange that Markus was acting like a Mafia when all he did was show her he wasn’t.

He glanced her one more time. Matilda looked weak... Someone to easily be picked on. He understood why Asli wanted her to know self defense.

"Throw a punch." He ordered her.

"Huh?" She asked, shock filling her eyes.

"What do you think we are here to do?" He asked her, his hand digging into his pocket.

Matilda threw the punch.

’I should start training her properly.’ he told himself. No more delays. No more gentle glances, seeming to ignore how much work it would be to train her.

This was her first time learning self-defense, and she wanted to get the foundation down before moving on to more advanced techniques. "Feet and shoulder-width apart," he said, his voice sharp but not harsh. "Balance is everything. If you have a weak stance, you are already losing."

She attempted to imitate his position, her legs twitching slightly with effort. Her brows wrinkled with concentration. Her lower lip was stuck between her teeth.

He moved closer, adjusting the angle of her foot with the shove of his boot before gently straightening her elbow. "Again," he said.

She restarted. She widened her stance. She planted her feet firmly this time. "Better," he muttered. "But don’t strain your shoulders; you’ll exhaust too quickly. Relax but remain watchful. Like a bowstring, neither too loose nor too tight."

They went through the drills: how to block, shift weight swiftly, and fall without breaking anything. Every mistake she made was carefully addressed, and every triumph was greeted with a barely discernible nod of appreciation.

Even though sweat streamed down her spine and her limbs hurt from exertion, he noticed a light in her eyes... a spark.

She was learning. And he was watching her try her best. Soon, she would learn to fight back.

Though he was seeing her efforts, Matilda on the other hand was seeing the other side of him.

Markus wasn’t going easy on her. They had been training for more than three hours. She thought he was going to be chatty like he was whenever Asli was around but no, he was actually training her. He was actually doing it.

This was worse than she had even imagined Cole would have done if he was training her.

"I’m tired. I need to rest." She uttered immediately he told her they were on the next stage.

How many stages had he taught her in just the first day? She knew he would want her to go on even if she didn’t want to.

This was going to break her even before her bullies from school could.

Thinking about the bullies...

They never bothered her again after Asli had warned them. But they watched her like she had stolen something from them, every single day.

She knew they were planning something. Anything that would harm her and prove to whoever came to warn them.

Luckily for her, Asli was someone not to play with. She was even surprised Asli did not break any of their hands. She had been scared throughout the drive for nothing.

She hoped they would take her warning seriously but she knew those students so well, they would retaliate.

But what if their next move would hurt her more than anything else could ever do?

She knew she needed to be careful. And she knew she needed to know how to defend herself. However, Markus would kill her from exhaustion.

Also, the quiet girl in her class suddenly wanted to be friends with her and that was what she did not understand. She looked mean and bored for no special reason. As if she didn’t have any will to live.

But that was ’her’ problem. Did she think she wanted to die too, just like her eyes looked?

If anything, Matilda looked more vibrant than the sun when people were around. Clearly, the other lady didn’t think that she wanted to end her life, right?

Even... Nobody wanted Matilda as a friend. Why would the other girl? Was it the bullies’ plan all along?

To give her a friend and later break her heart? Or did they want to know who she really was? Get to know who Asli was. There were so many questions going through her head.

If she really needed answers then she would have to give the girl a chance to get close to her.

She would pretend she was not suspecting her. Then find out why she suddenly wanted her as a friend... especially immediately after Asli visited the school.

"Ten minutes is up. Focus now." Markus resumed. His voice drew her out of her thoughts.

Huh? When was the break given? How come it was ten minutes already?
