Too Bad I Take Things Seriously-Chapter 548 - 220: Refuse to Provide Support, How About Sending 4 Sons to Jail?
The issues Feng Cuihua encountered... strictly speaking, were her family matters.
"Zhang, Brother Zhang, Xiao Qin... is there really a way?" Feng Cuihua asked, her wrinkled face etched with conflict and doubt as she looked at Zhang Qingyuan.
「In the nursing home.」
Although the entertainment activities for the elderly men and women were held together, there were still differences between genders. Qin Mu and Zhang Qingyuan belonged to the group of elderly men who got along best. The elderly ladies in the institution, however, were looked after by other staff members. So, even though he was quite famous in the nursing home, many of जगhe elderly ladies only knew *of* him.
"It should... be possible." But upon hearing this, Zhang Qingyuan wasn’t as resolutely confident as before. His reply was also tinged with hesitation. It seemed this matter... might not be something Qin Mu could solve either.
"What exactly is the problem?" Qin Mu asked, furrowing his brows as he looked at the two of them again. 𝒻𝑟ℯℯ𝑤𝑒𝑏𝑛𝘰𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝒸𝑜𝘮
"It’s like this," Feng Cuihua swallowed, then explained the troubles she faced. "Isn’t it almost time to pay the nursing home fees? My four sons... none of them are willing to pay this year’s fees."
The nursing home they were in was privately owned. It primarily provided care for the elderly, helping them enjoy their twilight years, but an annual fee was required. It was about fifty thousand yuan a year—not too expensive, but not cheap either.
Feng Cuihua’s face was somber as she continued, "Actually, I’ve been in this nursing home for four years, and these four years of nursing fees... were all from my savings when I was younger, paid out of my own pocket. My four sons, none of them are willing to support me; they’ve never given me any money. This year, my savings are almost gone, and I don’t have enough for next year’s nursing fees."
At this point, she suddenly began to sigh deeply, and tears welled up in her eyes. As she spoke, she couldn’t help but start to cry.
"I’m already seventy-eight this year. I don’t have many years left. I didn’t want to disrupt my children’s normal lives, but they... they all think of me as a burden...
"Last Chinese New Year, I wasn’t at the nursing home. I thought about going to my eldest son’s place, but they made me sleep on the floor on New Year’s Eve.
"My second son, too. I doted on him the most when he was little. Whatever good food there was, I saved it for him, but he doesn’t even make a single phone call to me all year round.
"And the third one! The last time I was sick and hospitalized, I called him first, but he said he was traveling with his grandson...
"And the fourth..."
As she wept, she recounted the situations with each of her four sons.
All four of her sons had attended university, and their family environments were quite comfortable. But once she retired and had no source of income, these four sons somehow began to see her as a burden. Every time she visited her sons’ homes, she faced disdain and cold scoffs; they mostly gave her the cold shoulder. If she suffered minor illnesses, none of her sons would come to see her.
Out of desperation, she chose to pay her own way into the nursing home. After hearing she had moved into the nursing home, her four sons did come and make a fuss. Of course, it was all about her life savings; they complained she was squandering money. After all, the cost of living in the nursing home wasn’t low. A year was fifty thousand yuan, and a few more years would add up to two or three hundred thousand. But she had already seen through the true colors of her sons and did not give them her savings.
"Now my savings are almost finished, and I can’t afford the nursing home fees. When I call them, they’re unwilling to help me pay..." Feng Cuihua said, wiping her tears as she looked up at Qin Mu. She cautiously asked, "Brother Zhang said you might have a way. Can you... can you help me persuade my sons?" In her eyes, there lingered a sliver of hope.
Having heard this, Qin Mu couldn’t help but sigh. This issue... it wasn’t exactly complicated, but it wasn’t simple either. Overall, it was about Feng Cuihua’s four sons being unwilling to pay her nursing home fees and also unwilling to take her back home to care for her. Essentially, they were neglecting her altogether.
"Xiao Qin, please help Cuihua out! You don’t know, those sons of hers aren’t willing to spend a single penny on her. My four dogs are more obedient than them!" Zhang Qingyuan exclaimed, clenching his teeth, his face flushed with anger. He and Feng Cuihua had met while playing mahjong in the nursing home. Both their spouses had passed away early, and they had each been single for almost ten years. This time, they had finally taken a liking to each other, and Feng Cuihua clearly had feelings for him too. He didn’t want this budding romance to end before it truly began. If Feng Cuihua had to "drop out" of the nursing home because she couldn’t afford the fees... he would regret it for the rest of his life.
"But this is an internal family matter," Qin Mu said, looking at Feng Cuihua. He couldn’t resist adding, "Besides, my expertise is mainly in law. I’m not particularly skilled in family conflict mediation." As the saying goes, "Even an upright official finds it hard to settle family disputes." Once family matters are involved, things become extremely complicated. Take this situation, for example. If he intervened too much, considering the subjects were Feng Cuihua’s own sons, he might end up displeasing both parties. And besides, the parties involved are mother and son, not mortal enemies.
"Didn’t you say this kind of situation can be taken to court?" Zhang Qingyuan pressed. "I told Cuihua. She has completely given up on her four sons. Even if it means going to court, she wants them to pay the support payments!"
Feng Cuihua, standing by, nodded solemnly, as if she had already made this momentous decision. Repeated disappointments... had left her without any hope.
