Tokyo: Rabbit Officer and Her Evil Partner-Chapter 849 - 510: The Tower
The night sky presses against the tip of the tower, billowing clouds cover the top, bursts of thunder boom, lightning like a wild python illuminates the billowing clouds.
Water pools around pedestrians’ ankles, a curtain of water pours from the eaves, sewage backflows from the drains, it’s as if Tokyo is about to sink into the sea.
The headlights of the Lexus pierce through the rain, speeding along the C3 Bayshore Line, screeching to a halt under Tokyo Tower on the First Keihin Road, the hot tires drenched by cold rain sizzle loudly.
A perimeter line is drawn around the base of the tower, officers in raincoats waving red traffic sticks, dispersing vehicles and crowds.
The Police Department formed another command group, with Kujo Yua personally overseeing and deploying the perimeter line.
To prevent the heavy rain and night from affecting the snipers’ vision, she brought in three helicopters, illuminating Tokyo Tower with searchlights from different angles.
Assault squads blocked the fire escape, wells, and sewers, even if the criminals attempted to parachute down, they would be shot down by the snipers on the helicopters.
This time, not even a fly could escape!
...
The pale beams of light pierce through the glass, illuminating Sakata Atsushi’s face.
Looking at this situation, he feels today won’t end well.
To prevent this guy from losing it and killing him in a last moment’s decision, Sakata Atsushi persuades, "Why not surrender, surrender doesn’t necessarily mean death, not surrender surely means getting shot to death."
Fushimi Roku remains silent, sitting beside the computer, fiddling with something unknown.
Sakata Atsushi continues, "Police don’t kill surrendering criminals, I know a good lawyer, might get a ten or eight-year sentence and get out..."
"I’m not afraid, what are you afraid of?" Fushimi Roku finally replies.
Sakata Atsushi fears he won’t speak, quickly leaning forward, "Being alive is better than dead, right? You are not afraid of death, but are you afraid of living?"
"It’s not that easy to die, I’m not here to commit suicide." Fushimi Roku sneers.
Sakata Atsushi thinks to himself that what he’s doing is akin to suicide, but then again, he escaped the previous terrorist attack on the Police Headquarters Building, maybe there’s some escape plan for Tokyo Tower this time.
"Really? How do you plan to escape?"
Just after asking, Sakata Atsushi regrets it; such words are really ill-timed, expecting no answer.
Unexpectedly, Fushimi Roku truly speaks, "I plan to..."
Suddenly, Sakata Atsushi shouts, "Ababa Ababa Ababa Ababa!" which drowns out Fushimi Roku’s voice.
"What are you doing?" Fushimi Roku is startled.
"I’ve seen in movies that hostages who know too much end up killed by the kidnappers." Sakata Atsushi shakes his head repeatedly, "Don’t tell me, I don’t want to know."
"Don’t worry, I won’t kill you." Fushimi Roku finds it amusing.
"I don’t trust you." Sakata Atsushi continues shaking his head, "Being a kidnapper, where’s the trust?"
"Oh, you dare not trust me?" Fushimi Roku presses the gun to Sakata Atsushi’s head.
Sakata Atsushi is shocked, cursing his loose mouth. His mom told him long ago to fix his problem of being greedy and talking too much. But he just can’t change it, not even when free souvenirs like Daifuku are given out at talks.
Damn...
If I make it out alive this time, I’ll definitely change!
Sakata Atsushi closes his mouth, resigning to his fate. Fushimi Roku nods in satisfaction, lowers the gun, and says, "That’s better, don’t worry, there’s nothing to hide about my escape plan."
Sakata Atsushi learned his lesson and remains silent.
Fushimi Roku doesn’t want a monologue, raises the gun again, "Speak! Become mute?"
Sakata Atsushi feels bitter, only trembling with lips, asking, "Is it because you don’t plan to run anymore?"
Fushimi Roku is somewhat surprised, "Didn’t expect you to be quite clever."
Bracing himself, Sakata Atsushi persuades again, "Really, isn’t it better to live even if poorly rather than resist until the end, better to surrender..."
"How about we make a bet then?" Fushimi Roku is intrigued.
"Bet on what?" Sakata Atsushi instinctively asks, then regrets asking.
"Bet on whether or not I can leave here alive." Fushimi Roku says.
"But if you die, how can I ask for the stakes?" Sakata Atsushi is fully resigned now.
Fushimi Roku takes out a key from his pocket, "This is a key to storage locker 37 at the Kosaka town’s public station nearby, there are two gold bars inside. If I die, you all can split them."
His mention of ’you all’ refers to the remaining hostages present.
Sakata Atsushi feels bitter inside, watching Fushimi Roku pocket the small key, can’t help but ask, "I don’t have gold bars, too valuable, can’t afford the bet..."
Not believing Fushimi Roku can survive, but such valuable goods leave him feeling undeserving.
"No worry, if you lose, and I survive, you only need to do me one favor."
Fushimi Roku leans in to Sakata Atsushi’s ear, whispers the stake, and asks, "How about it? Deal?"
Sakata Atsushi hesitates momentarily, nods, "As long as you don’t go back on it, can ensure our safety."
"I’ve said it, obey my orders and I guarantee everyone’s safe exit." Fushimi Roku attempts to tame the hostages.
Sakata Atsushi’s interest is piqued, his greed not easily curbed yet, unable to resist asking Fushimi Roku, what exactly does he plan next?
Fushimi Roku unlocks the technicians’ handcuffs, has them help connect the microphone, now his voice can be broadcasted live.
Sitting cross-legged on the ground, Fushimi Roku places the microphone before him, in front is the glass window, where he can see outside amidst thunder, rain, and flashing light beams, resembling an apocalyptic scene.
"Hello, hello..."
"Sound check, sound check."
"Alright, no problem, good evening to all viewers, I’m your old friend Fushimi Roku."
