Tokyo: Rabbit Officer and Her Evil Partner-Chapter 835 - 503: Late Night Conversation
Minamoto Tamako stated that it was unimportant; she only wanted to uncover the mastermind behind the Cat Island incident and give those harmed families an explanation.
Kujo Yua, compared to the investigation, was more concerned about her daughter’s health. After several inquiries, Minamoto Tamako finally confessed and recounted everything that happened at Sugamo Apartment.
"A task force arrested the victim’s family members?" Kujo Yua put down her pen. "Are you sure?"
Minamoto Tamako pointed at the bump on her forehead. "Of course, I’m sure!"
Kujo Yua’s mind was overwhelmed. She was so busy recently that she could only sleep three to four hours a day, dealing with various troubles every day. One moment, a senator said to arrest people, another moment, a minister said to protect people, while the Prime Minister occasionally applied pressure. She felt her mind had become like an alchemy furnace, either refining into a pill or eventually bursting.
"Alas."
Kujo Yua pinched her brow, a thousand words turned into a single sigh.
Minamoto Tamako could see that her mother was under a lot of stress. But she didn’t want to delay, unable to resist urging a few times.
"Alright," Kujo Yua interlaced her fingers, resting her elbows on the table. "You don’t need to worry about this matter anymore. If you have free time, investigate other cases. If you don’t want to investigate, go home and rest."
"Why? There are still so many people running around for their relatives, and the video clearly captured the faces of those accomplices, yet they are still earning their positions in the Police Department, in the Senate, in big enterprises—"
"You also know where they are employed. What can you do?" Kujo Yua interrupted.
Minamoto Tamako’s face reddened with anger, she was about to continue arguing when Kujo Yua said again, "Power is a pyramid, and we are all part of the tower. Without those people, the Director of Police is nothing."
She looked at Minamoto Tamako, meeting her gaze. "Listen to my advice; the hand cannot hit the head, even if the head has issues."
"They are not the head! They are just a piece of rotten meat!" Minamoto Tamako exclaimed loudly.
Kujo Yua no longer argued, she simply replied, "Back then, when you were falsely reported, how did you clear your name? How did you get the newspaper to apologize? Whether you like it or not, you’ve already benefited from power."
Minamoto Tamako was speechless; it wasn’t that she didn’t know how to argue, she just felt that no matter what she said, her mother wouldn’t listen.
When she left in frustration, Kujo Yua picked up the phone, dialing Kato Touma’s office number.
No matter what, arresting the victim’s family was too ugly.
Kujo Yua considered getting Kato Touma to step down, but it was just a thought. Due to various reasons, her position as Director of Police was not smooth, nor was she able to make independent decisions in every matter.
Given the current situation, with public grievances boiling, only by temporarily setting aside personal emotions can they first weather the storm and think of solutions later...
The phone rang more than ten times, and Kato Touma never picked up.
Was he in a mood?
Kujo Yua grew increasingly frustrated and worried. She twisted open a bottle of energy medicine, drank half of it, sighed a breath of impure air, and when her heartbeat slowed down, dialed the phone again.
Kato Touma still didn’t answer; the phone automatically turned into a voicemail.
Even though it was already ten o’clock at night, Kujo Yua knew he was in the office and knew he would certainly listen to the voicemail, so she simply said, "Call back; my patience has limits."
She hung up the phone and continued handling documents. After half an hour, Kato Touma still hadn’t called back.
Kujo Yua couldn’t bear it any longer, dialed for the last time, intending to issue a final ultimatum—Kato Touma’s arrest of the victim’s family was one thing, ignoring a superior was another!
This time, the phone rang four times and connected.
Kujo Yua immediately began scolding: "What are you up to? Are you using your brain for work? When the news comes out tomorrow, how will you explain it? You—"
A heavy panting was heard on the other end.
Kujo Yua’s reprimand stopped abruptly; she vaguely sensed something was wrong, tentatively asking: "Mr. Kato? Is it you?"
"Yes, yes it’s me..."
Kato Touma’s voice was very weak.
"What’s wrong with you?" Kujo Yua gripped the handset tightly, signaling the secretary to come over, instructing him with mouth gestures to go check on Kato Touma’s office.
"I’m fine... just... a little sick," Kato Touma replied.
"Where are you unwell?" Kujo Yua asked, "Let’s not talk about your illness now, was it you who issued the order to arrest the victim’s family?"
"Yes, it was me... I’m truly sorry... deeply sorry..." Kato Touma’s voice took on a crying tone.
Kujo Yua furrowed her brow, standing up to uncover the blinds, peering through the window slits towards the corridor at an angle: "Is anyone else there with you? Do you need reinforcement? Just give a hint..."
As soon as she finished speaking, she saw the office window lights of the opposite building go out.
Kujo Yua pressed the call forward button, transferring the call to her phone, and quickly left the office, gathering security, jogging towards Kato Touma’s office: "Hey? Are you still there? Minister Kato..."
"It’s me."
A familiar male voice rang out.
Kujo Yua abruptly stopped in her tracks, thunder seemed to strike in her mind, her spine tingling with goosebumps.
She knew about Fushimi Roku’s confession at the wedding, also knew about Fushimi Roku’s disappearance being wanted, and even knew about Fushimi Roku’s escape after leaving Minamoto Tamako at the altar.
By rights, she as the mother-in-law should sternly scold that heartless man—at any other time, she had the confidence to reprimand Fushimi Roku—but now it was different, everything had changed.
Fushimi Roku had become carefree and fearless.
Kujo Yua took a deep breath, signaling the security to bring live ammunition, raising the phone and asking, "What are you doing in Minister Kato’s office?"
"Having a late-night chat with Minister Kato," Fushimi Roku replied.
