Chapter 69: Chapter 69: Printing the Divorce Agreement

Vera Yves hesitated for a moment, then took the box and opened it. Inside lay a men’s wristwatch.

Vera remembered very clearly that the wristwatch Winston Valentine wore while holding her hand last night was this very watch.

As she took out the watch, a card gently slipped out.

Vera bent down to pick it up.

"Winston, I wish time could forever freeze at the moment we embraced each other! Thank you for fulfilling my humblest dream last night; I will love you forever."

Vera slowly clenched the card.

The servant next to her noticed her unusual expression and asked worriedly, "Mrs. Valentine, are you okay?"

Vera collected herself, crumpled the card, tossed it in the nearby trash bin, and her expression returned to normal, "I’m fine."

It was never hers to begin with; what does it matter if it’s gone?

After all, it’s not the first time.

Vera gathered her emotions, went upstairs to the study, found a divorce agreement template online, edited it, then printed it out and signed her name.

When Vera left the villa, light snow was falling in the sky, she asked the driver to take her to the clinic.

The bouquet of roses had already started to wilt, with many petals scattered.

His tender closeness to her was like this spur-of-the-moment bouquet of roses, which practically required no effort.

Vera threw the bouquet into the roadside trash bin, then took down the painting from the wall, put it away, and tossed it in the corner.

She finally found an excuse to divorce him, so she could at least safely give birth to the child in her belly, a child who would no longer be related to him.

Looking at the snowflakes falling outside the window, Vera thought of the night they walked hand in hand, everything felt like it was just yesterday.

Recalling more than three years of marriage, that was unexpectedly one of their rare warm moments.

She also remembered the kiss he left her before danger descended in that woodland.

Tears ultimately fell down unsparingly.

In the evening, Linda Young invited her out for a drink.

The two of them arranged to meet at a quiet bar, when the food was served, Vera had no appetite.

Linda handed Vera the organized photos, "Although the reports were quickly withdrawn, I managed to get the photos. If you plan to divorce Winston Valentine, these photos can definitely help you get more of his assets."

The photos weren’t censored, and though there were only a few side profiles of Winston Valentine, they clearly identified him.

The news reports were withdrawn quickly, merely circulating in a small scope.

If she really took Winston Valentine to court and made a fuss, the Valentine Family wouldn’t let The Yves Family off easily.

In this world where the weak are prey to the strong, only those with money and power have the privilege to talk about fairness.

"Have you asked Winston Valentine about it, what did he say?"

Vera shook her head, she hadn’t called Winston Valentine, nor had she called to question him.

Linda was perplexed, "Vera, what are you actually thinking? If Winston Valentine really is with Cecilia Vaughn... don’t you plan to divorce him?"

Even when she drafted the divorce agreement, she wasn’t confident Winston Valentine would agree.

She wasn’t strong enough to rely on her family, nor had Winston Valentine’s love as a bargaining chip to obtain his apology.

Even if he truly cheated, as long as he didn’t agree, divorce would be near impossible for her.

However, she at least has one bargaining chip.

Vera put the photos away, realizing he couldn’t bear Cecilia Vaughn being wronged.

Both of them lacked appetite and didn’t eat much, Linda noticed she hadn’t drunk alcohol and looked at her worriedly, "Still feeling unwell? Aftereffects of the car crash?"

Vera hesitated for a moment, "Linda, I’m pregnant."

"Winston Valentine’s?"

"Ah."

"He deserves it?" Linda indignantly said, "What are you planning to do?"

Vera smiled, "Abortions are hard on the body, I’m already twenty-seven, I can be a mom."

"Do you want to forgive Winston Valentine?"

"He doesn’t need my forgiveness," Vera mocked herself, "I’m just tired of being someone’s wife, so I want to give birth to it, besides, I’m quite curious about what being a mom feels like."

Linda looked at her helplessly, "Once it’s born, you’ll have plenty to worry.""

"But I think I’ll be a good mom."

Linda asked a practical question, "Will Winston Valentine agree? For argument’s sake, even if Winston Valentine agrees, will The Valentine Family agree?"

"If they don’t know, there’s no need to get their agreement."

After Vera parted ways with Linda, she returned to the villa, Winston Valentine hadn’t come back.

She received a transaction notification on her phone - Wendy Jennings had sent her money, and a message too, "You will never win over Cecilia, once Winston Valentine kicks you out, you’ll see!"

Vera deleted the message and blocked the number.

Hannah Hayes called, asking her to bring Winston Valentine to The Yves Family for dinner tomorrow.

Obviously, Hannah Hayes wasn’t aware of the rumors.

"The deal has already been concluded, we’re just waiting for Winston to sign." Hannah Hayes’s voice was full of excitement, "Previously, I was worried about how to repay The Xavier Family’s debt; once the contract is signed, by this time next year, not only can we repay The Xavier Family, but The Yves Family..."

"Mom, don’t have too much hope for this contract."

"What, you and Winston had another argument?" Hannah Hayes asked helplessly, "Vera, couples living together, how can there not be bumps along the way? As long as Winston doesn’t go too far, if you can endure, just endure, during ordinary times, you should coax him more..."

Vera blinked her sore eyes, "What more do you want me to endure, how to coax? Haven’t I endured enough in these three years?"

"Vera..."

"Can’t you see over these three years, how do those people look at me?"

Everyone thought she wasn’t worthy of Winston Valentine, even she couldn’t lift her head in front of him because of The Yves Family’s forced marriage.

The affluent wives in the upper circles praised her to her face, but who knows how terribly they criticized her behind her back.

The Valentines especially looked down on her.

She endured it, she thought as long as she worked hard to maintain this marriage, one day she could see the light at the end of the tunnel.

What was her patience in exchange for?

Hannah Hayes casually said, "Those people have always been like that. Who do they really respect? Why bother about them?"

"If Winston Valentine also looks down on me, should I endure it too?"

"How can Winston look down on you?"

Deep helplessness grew in Vera’s heart, she clutched her phone, "You clearly know The Yves Family and The Valentine Family are mismatched, why did you insist I marry him back then?"

"Back then, your reputation was ruined by him, and you were pregnant, of course he had to take responsibility for you!"

Life is so long, who can always have someone take responsibility for them.

Vera tiredly hung up the phone, she wanted to pack her luggage, but then thought about the things in the dressing room, they were all items Winston Valentine ordered others to purchase for her after marriage.

This villa was given by Old Mrs. Valentine as a wedding gift to her and Winston Valentine at their wedding, under her name.

While Vera was distracted, Winston Valentine pushed open the bedroom door and walked in.

The bedroom was so quiet it was a bit excessive.

Winston Valentine didn’t speak, he silently entered the dressing room to pack his luggage and came out with a suitcase within ten minutes.

Vera blocked his path, calmly handed him the watch, "Cecilia returns this to you."
