Together Apart: Her White Moonlight Has Returned Too-Chapter 195: Default Breakup
Vera Yves originally thought that Henry Sterling would take her to Melinda Shelby’s villa, but unexpectedly, he brought her to a ballroom.
Vera was dressed in ordinary clothes, a pink shirt, sky blue jeans, white sneakers, and her hair was just simply tied in a ponytail.
She was completely out of place with the exquisite ballroom and the stylish, glamorous successful people inside.
Aware of the inquisitive gazes around her, Vera calmly started eating the desserts. She had just come back from the mountains and slept for most of the day, and was already hungry.
Besides, she wasn’t here to attend the party, so why should she care about others’ gazes?
There was a stir in the crowd.
Following the crowd’s gaze, Vera saw Winston Valentine dressed in a royal blue tuxedo, dancing in the dance floor with a tall, elegant woman.
So he had already returned.
The two of them really made a perfect match like that.
As if sensing Vera’s gaze, Winston glanced over. His eyes rested on Vera for just a moment, then he turned away expressionlessly.
Vera felt a block in her chest. Was he pretending not to see her?
Watching the two elegantly dancing on the dance floor, Vera couldn’t help but recall her birthday party where he was also holding another woman while dancing.
"See that? Only a woman as outstanding as that deserves to stand by my son’s side." Not knowing when, Melinda Shelby had already come to Vera’s side.
Vera snapped back, her attitude turning cold, "Did Mr. Shelby call me over just to say this nonsense?"
Melinda sneered, "Isn’t such a visual impact enough for you to feel inferior? You never belonged to this world, just like your cheap clothes, it’s pathetic."
Vera gripped her wine glass, resisting the urge to throw it at her.
"Does one have to wear beautiful clothes to appear noble?" Vera mocked with a smile, "Mr. Shelby’s view is narrow-minded."
"If it weren’t for your connection with my son, you would never have been able to attend such a top-notch party in your entire life." Melinda’s tone was disdainful, "Three years of marriage is already extravagant enough for you. You shouldn’t be greedy for more."
"I’m not the greedy one." Vera looked at Melinda, having had enough of her condescending attitude, "If not for your son endlessly entangling with me, I wouldn’t have to endure your rudeness here."
"Love may make him impulsive for a while, but it can’t make him impulsive for a lifetime." Melinda spoke slowly, "With so many outstanding women around him, what makes you think you can always remain special?"
Vera spoke indifferently, "I understand why Mr. Shelby would say that, after all, something you couldn’t achieve in your whole life, someone else managed to achieve effortlessly."
Melinda clutched her wine glass, looking at her in disbelief.
Vera calmly said, "You’re not the only one who knows how to stab someone in the heart with words!"
Melinda looked at Vera’s face, seeing a familiar stubbornness in her eyes, "Being sharp-tongued won’t do you any good with me. Find a way to bring Cleo Sutton out to meet me."
Vera sneered, "Why should I help you?"
"You can choose not to help." Melinda smiled at her, "In that case, let your brother remain completely missing then."
Vera looked at her in disbelief, "What have you done to Mark?"
"Bring Cleo Sutton out to meet me, and I won’t do anything to him." Melinda gripped her shoulder, "If you can’t, don’t blame me for being unkind to him."
Vera felt a chill down her spine.
"You can also choose to tell Tristan Valentine, assuming you can bear the consequences."
"What do you plan to do with her?"
"What could I possibly do to her? Do you think I would kill her?" Melinda swayed her wine glass, although she did wish to kill that woman, the one truly deserving death was Tristan Valentine.
"She’s not even worth getting my hands dirty."
Melinda placed the wine glass on the table, "I’ll give you two days. You can leave now." 𝐟𝐫𝕖𝗲𝘄𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝕧𝐞𝚕.𝕔𝕠𝐦
Henry Sterling had somehow already appeared behind Vera, and she had to leave the ballroom.
Back at The Yves Family home, she still felt cold all over.
Hannah Hayes sat in the living room looking worried, "Vera, did Mark still not contact you today?"
Vera shook her head, "No."
Hannah sighed, "Almost thirty years old and he still runs away from home when something happens! Doesn’t he worry about his family being concerned? It’s all your dad’s fault for scaring him with marriage!"
Vera comforted her with a few words, then went upstairs.
The phone rang, Vera glanced at the caller ID and directly rejected the call, then she muted the phone and went into the bathroom.
Putting on a robe, Vera was drying her hair while walking out, and upon seeing the man sitting on the bed, her face darkened.
Winston Valentine was still wearing the outfit from the party, except the Windsor knot had already been loosened by him; his face was slightly red, clearly having drunk quite a bit.
Cigarette butts were scattered on the ground, and the room was filled with the smell of smoke.
Vera walked over to the window and opened it. The cold wind rushed in, making her shiver.
Winston still held a cigarette between his fingers, and seeing her open the window, he took a deep drag and then stood up. When Vera turned around, he clasped her waist and kissed her dominantly.
Vera frowned, the sudden influx of smoke made her want to cough, but she couldn’t. She forcefully pushed the man in front of her, but he kissed even more aggressively.
It wasn’t until Vera’s eyes reddened with discomfort that he finally released her.
"Winston Valentine, you’re crazy!" Vera forcefully pushed him away and coughed for a long time.
"It’s a madness you drove me to." Winston extinguished the cigarette butt on the windowsill.
Vera wiped her lips, "If you’re drunk, just go home and sleep instead of acting crazy here."
Noticing her actions, Winston’s gaze darkened even more as he pressed her against the windowsill, staring at her lips, "Didn’t you dislike me touching you? Then I’ll make you dislike it even more!"
His warm lips landed on her collarbone, causing a sharp pain. Vera pushed him hard, unable to budge, she endured the pain, "When did I say I dislike you touching me?"
"When do you think?" Winston finally released her, his fingers brushing across the mark on her collarbone, "You liar, you promised not to see him, yet you went drinking with him! And kissed him, so you vomited when I touched you, right?"
"Winston Valentine, when did I meet him or kiss him?"
Winston mumbled, "The night before I went on a business trip."
Vera’s face darkened, "I didn’t see him, much less kissed him. You were the one going around with other women! Yet you’re slandering me. If you want to break up, just say so without smearing me."
"I forbid you to mention those two words!"
"If a couple doesn’t contact each other for over a week, it is essentially a silent breakup, don’t you understand?"
"How dare you bring up not contacting for a week!" Winston wanted to strangle her right then, so he wouldn’t have to be manipulated by her emotions, constantly wondering if she had even the slightest fondness for him.
"Eight days without a single call or message from you." Winston buried his head into her shoulder, his voice laced with a hint of grievance, "Isn’t it true that if I don’t reach out first, you would never take the initiative to contact me?"
