Together Apart: Her White Moonlight Has Returned Too-Chapter 167: All I Want Is Your Care
She remembered the first time Winston Valentine saw that photo frame, he specifically asked about the photo. Could it have fallen out when they changed the glass later?
Vera Yves searched both the table and the drawers but found no trace of the photo.
Zoe Monroe looked on curiously, "Vera, what are you looking for?"
"A picture of my grandpa holding Mark Yves, with Mark clutching a toy."
Zoe Monroe shrugged, "If Mark’s photo is lost, it’s lost."
Vera smiled, "He was crying at the time, and he looked so ugly."
Hearing this, Zoe Monroe immediately joined in the search, "Mark’s dark history, that can’t be lost."
The two searched the clinic for a long time without finding it.
Zoe Monroe complained, "Maybe Mark was so embarrassed by it that he snuck it away!"
"He’s never even been to the clinic, how could he steal it?" Vera thought there should be another copy of the photo at Hannah Hayes’s place, so in the afternoon, she took Zoe Monroe to The Yves Family’s house.
Hannah Hayes wasn’t particularly warm to Zoe Monroe, but since she had watched her grow up, she didn’t give her the cold shoulder either.
Hearing they wanted to see Mark’s childhood photos, Hannah Hayes brought out an album.
It was filled with photos of Vera and Mark from childhood to adulthood.
Zoe Monroe looked through them and remarked, "This fool sure was silly from young to old."
Just then, Mark Yves returned home with his girlfriend. As soon as he walked in, he heard Zoe Monroe’s comment and couldn’t help but say, "Zoe Monroe, who are you calling a fool?"
"Whoever gets mad, of course!" Zoe Monroe glanced at him and noticed a young girl by his side. Her eyes lit up, "Wow, you’re doing well. You managed to woo such a cute girl?"
Mia Tate felt a little embarrassed by the comment.
Mark Yves introduced them, and Zoe Monroe invited Mia Tate to look at Mark’s childhood photos. Mark quickly walked over and snatched away the album, "Alright, Zoe Monroe, leave me some privacy in front of my girlfriend."
Zoe Monroe rolled her eyes at him and jokingly said to Mia Tate, "Isn’t dating him particularly boring?"
Mia Tate blushed and softly replied, "It’s quite... interesting."
Zoe Monroe burst out laughing.
Mark Yves retorted, "Dating Theodore Xavier is the real bore!"
"It was boring because I was dating him, okay?" Zoe Monroe carelessly flicked her hair, "Which is why I dumped him."
Mark was a bit surprised and whispered, "You only dated for a few days."
Seeing Mia Tate, Hannah Hayes greeted her and slipped into the kitchen, followed by Vera, "Mom, why haven’t I seen the photo of Mark around two years old, grandpa holding him, with a little dragonfly woven toy in his hand..."
Hannah stopped her movements, quickly recovered, "Was there such a photo?"
"Yes, it was in the frame at the clinic before..."
"I don’t remember," Hannah looked at her, "Maybe you remembered wrong, what’s all this talk of dragonflies? Stay for dinner with Zoe tonight. I’ll cook some of her favorite dishes."
How could she possibly have remembered the photo wrong after staring at it for so many years?
In the evening, while Vera was helping out in the kitchen, Winston Valentine’s video call came in. Vera glanced at Hannah and stepped outside the kitchen to answer.
Winston’s face appeared on the phone screen and Vera deliberately held the phone at a distance.
"I’ve booked a restaurant. Shall we have dinner together tonight?"
Vera shook her head, "We have guests at home, I can’t go out."
"Then I’ll come to The Yves Family’s house now." 𝑓𝓇𝘦ℯ𝘸𝘦𝑏𝓃𝑜𝘷ℯ𝑙.𝑐𝑜𝓂
"If you want to be thrown out, you’re welcome to come."
"Then how about we meet after dinner?"
"It’s too cold outside, I don’t want to go out," Vera’s attitude was neither warm nor cold. "Call next time if you need something, don’t just video call out of the blue."
"I just wanted to see you," Winston’s voice was gentle, "besides, my number is still on your block list."
Vera pulled up her contacts, about to remove him from the blacklist, when she heard him say, "Vera, you know, only kids block and delete after a breakup."
Vera ended the video call. You can stay on the blacklist.
After dinner, Mark and Zoe Monroe played video games in the living room, each holding a controller, thoroughly enjoying themselves.
To include Mia Tate, Zoe Monroe chose a three-player game, but Mia, having never played before and not particularly interested, soon sat quietly beside Mark, feeding him fruit.
Unexpectedly caught in an affectionate moment, Zoe Monroe lost much of her enthusiasm for the game.
Vera was planning to catch up on some sleep when she received a message from Winston: Come out.
Not wanting to respond, he sent another: I’ll wait for you ten minutes, or I’ll come in to get you.
Vera chuckled coldly. If you’re not afraid of being kicked out, go ahead and come.
After returning to her room, Vera took a shower. Wearing pajamas, she walked out of the bathroom and saw the man sitting by her bed, making her jump, "How did you get in?"
Winston pointed to the window, "Climbed through."
Vera rushed to his side, trying to take off his coat. Winston took the opportunity to wrap his arm around her waist, "I think a kiss would be a better start."
Vera pressed on his wound, causing him to gasp in pain.
"Your right hand can’t exert force, and your left arm is injured, yet you climbed the window?" Vera looked at him angrily, "You did this on purpose, purposely making yourself look this miserable so I’d feel guilty, feel sorry for you..."
Looking at her eyes turning red, Winston caressed her cheek, "Vera, I don’t want your guilt, I only want your concern."
Winston leaned closer, lowered his voice, "Do you care about me?"
Vera pushed him away, took out a first aid kit from the cabinet, "Take off your clothes."
Winston took off his coat, revealing his bare upper body, the right arm still bearing a significant scar he got saving her.
Even if he risked his life for her, it didn’t stop him from keeping someone else in his heart.
Vera carefully removed the blood-stained bandage, then helped him stop the bleeding, disinfect, and re-bandage the wound.
Winston stroked her still damp hair, "Not drying your hair properly is an easy way to catch a cold. Let me help you?"
"I just bandaged you up, don’t overexert yourself." Vera stood up, went to the bathroom, turned on the hairdryer, and started drying her hair.
As her hair gradually dried, the man embraced her from behind, burying his face into her hair, inhaling the familiar yet distant scent.
Vera turned off the hairdryer, tried to push him away, but Winston picked her up and placed her on the sink’s edge. Vera cried out softly, "Your wound..."
Winston leaned in, looking into her eyes, "I’m not going to die, so, do your words count?"
Vera wanted to dodge, but Winston held her face, leaving no room for her to evade.
Looking at his passionate gaze, Vera’s heart raced. Her hand brushed over the scar on his arm, "Do I have a stance to refuse?"
"No."
His warm lips descended.
Vera instinctively tried to back away, but Winston cupped the nape of her neck, denying her escape.
Unlike before, his kiss was gentle, lingering, gradually consuming the oxygen in her mouth.
Vera’s mind went blank.
His lips slowly moved down, kissing her fair neck.
"Vera."
Zoe Monroe opened the bedroom door and walked in.
With a "bang!", Winston closed the bathroom door.
