Together Apart: Her White Moonlight Has Returned Too-Chapter 145: Don’t Want to Be a Clown
Vera Yves furrowed her brows, "What’s wrong with him?"
"This afternoon, President Valentine fainted at the company, hit his head, and hasn’t felt well since returning to the villa. He’s vomited a few times."
"Why wasn’t he taken to the hospital?"
Walter Lowell was silent for a moment, "President Valentine said that Miss Yves had agreed to treat him."
Vera Yves had no choice but to put down her glass and said to Linda Young, who hurried over, "Vera, are you going out? In a moment, Miles..."
Vera Yves paused, "Please tell him for me that if he wants my forgiveness, he should stop appearing in front of me."
"Vera, even if you’re breaking up, you should at least talk it over properly."
What is there to talk about? She didn’t want to hear the name "Jane Shea" from his mouth anymore.
Vera Yves drove to the villa, the road lined with festive lights, already echoing the atmosphere of the New Year.
Walter Lowell was waiting at the door and respectfully said, "President Valentine has already taken painkillers, but he still feels very uncomfortable."
Vera Yves entered the living room and saw Winston Valentine sitting on the sofa, his face very pale, and a bruise at the corner of his mouth.
Walter Lowell handed Winston Valentine’s medical records to Vera Yves. Vera Yves looked carefully at his scans and then checked his pulse.
"Besides the weakness in your right hand, is there anywhere else that feels uncomfortable?"
Vera Yves extended her hand, pressing on his abdomen, and felt him clearly frown when she pressed on the stomach area.
Winston Valentine stared at her motionlessly, "Inside."
"What’s wrong inside?"
Winston Valentine grabbed her hand and placed it over his heart, "Why don’t you feel it yourself?"
Realizing his intent, Vera Yves furrowed her brow, wanting to pull back her hand, but Winston Valentine held it in place.
"Vera Yves, what are you doing?"
Cecilia Vaughn’s voice rang out, and Vera Yves finally pulled her hand back.
Cecilia Vaughn walked into the living room with a thermos in hand.
Winston Valentine, seeing her, visibly darkened his expression.
"Miles Monroe dumped you, and you immediately turn to Winston? You really can’t wait! Without a man, you just can’t live, can you?"
Vera Yves ignored her, picked up the medical records on the table, "I’ll take these back to study. This isn’t my field of expertise; I recommend you seek out an overseas medical team. The sooner you intervene, the greater the chance for recovery."
Vera Yves stood up, and Cecilia Vaughn blocked her way, "Winston and I will soon hold an engagement party. Don’t forget to attend, Miss Yves!"
Vera Yves looked at her coldly, "If a person has no regard for dignity, they’re truly invincible."
"Vera Yves, who are you calling shameless!" Cecilia Vaughn sneered, "Now everyone in Imperia knows that you’re nothing but a woman nobody wants! Inviting you is me showing you respect."
"Who needs your respect? You’re just a well-known mistress."
Vera Yves leaned closer, her voice icy, "When I see you, I don’t hit you because I have manners. Take my advice: if you have even a shred of decency, seeing me should make you feel ashamed. Even if you become Mrs. Valentine, in front of me, you’ll always be a thief who’s out of place."
Vera Yves no longer looked at her and left the villa.
Cecilia Vaughn was livid.
Winston Valentine watched her retreating figure, only withdrawing his gaze when he could no longer see her.
"Winston, why let her treat you? Didn’t your second aunt find you an overseas medical team?"
Seeing Cecilia Vaughn about to sit on the sofa, Winston Valentine’s expression darkened further, "Who let you in the villa?"
Cecilia Vaughn was somewhat taken aback, "We’re about to get married, aren’t we going to live here together after marriage?"
Winston Valentine stood up, "In the future, without my permission, don’t come here."
Cecilia Vaughn’s face turned slightly pale, "If you don’t like me coming, I won’t come. I made soup for you..."
"I’m tired, Walter Lowell, see our guest out."
Winston Valentine went upstairs.
Walter Lowell stepped to Cecilia Vaughn’s side, "Miss Vaughn, ever since President Valentine’s head injury, his emotions have been unstable. Please bear with him."
Cecilia Vaughn forced a smile, "It’s okay."
Being sent away like a guest? To him, is she not even as close as his assistant?
After returning from the ski resort, she thought they had no chance, but then he suddenly agreed to get engaged. But why is he still so cold towards her?
Vera Yves stayed at Linda Young’s for two days before Hannah Hayes called her back to The Yves Family for the New Year.
Hannah Hayes dragged her out to buy New Year supplies.
Vera Yves was uninterested in shopping, but Hannah Hayes was enthusiastic, buying quite a bit of clothing, shoes, and bags.
The two walked into a women’s clothing store and encountered Matthew Monroe shopping with a heavily made-up woman.
Seeing Vera Yves and the driver behind them holding bags, Matthew Monroe chuckled softly to the woman beside him, "See that? That’s the woman Miles Monroe dumped at the wedding!"
Hannah Hayes’s face flushed with anger, but Vera Yves grabbed her arm, signaling her to ignore it.
The woman’s gaze fell on Vera Yves with disdain, "She doesn’t look like much."
"What do you know? She’s not just dumped for nothing; with cash, jewelry, and property, she netted a billion in dowry, way more than you’ll make in a lifetime!"
Vera Yves was taken aback; she looked at Hannah Hayes, "Mom..."
Hannah Hayes looked somewhat embarrassed, lowering her voice, "Miles didn’t want to accept it. He said it was compensation for you."
The woman looked at Vera with envy, yet spoke dismissively, "Not much better than selling yourself, just at a higher price."
"Honey, why is your little mouth so sharp?" Matthew Monroe laughed, touching the woman’s face.
Hannah Hayes, in a huff, marched up to Matthew Monroe, "You’d better explain yourself today! We went to The Monroe Family to return the dowry, but you wouldn’t take it! So why are you smearing Vera now?"
"Were you Yves really sincere in wanting to return it?" Matthew Monroe sneered, "It’s clear you just wanted to make a quick gain!"
"It was your Monroe Family who broke off the engagement! So what if we didn’t return the dowry? Vera was the victim!"
A crowd began to gather around them, listening to the argument.
They turned their gaze to Vera, who felt like she was back on the wedding day, standing alone on stage with eyes on her as if hearing laughter, mocking her naivety.
Vera Yves began to breathe heavily, pushing through the crowd until she reached an open space, gulping in fresh air as though alive again.
A warm coat was draped over her shoulders, and Vera turned around.
Seeing Miles Monroe, she instinctively stepped back, tossing the coat back, calming herself, and attempting to leave, but Miles Monroe grabbed her wrist.
"Vera."
Vera lowered her voice, "Let go, I don’t want to cause a scene and be a fool again."
"Vera, even if you’re going to sentence me to death, at least let me say my piece, okay?"
