Chapter 123: Chapter 123: You’d Only Be Able to Thank Me at the Funeral Home

Vera Yves felt a bit of a headache, but having Miles Monroe with her was better than going alone.

The next morning, Miles accompanied Vera to buy several supplements, fruit baskets, and a large bouquet of lilies, and they went to the hospital. 𝚏𝐫𝚎𝗲𝕨𝐞𝐛𝕟𝚘𝐯𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝗺

Vera sent a message to the number, asking for the room number.

The other party quickly replied.

Miles was somewhat surprised to hear it was a VIP room.

As the two reached the door, a nurse came out of the room holding bloody bandages.

Vera looked at Miles, hesitating to speak.

Walter Lowell came out of the room, looked at Vera with delight, but his delight turned to shock when he saw Miles beside her.

Walter put on a professional smile, "Miss Yves, President Valentine just changed his medication, he said you could go in anytime you arrived."

Miles looked down at Vera, "Is Winston Valentine the neighbor who acted bravely?"

Vera nodded.

Miles tightened his grip on her hand, "We definitely need to thank him properly."

Walter looked at their hands clasped together and hurriedly opened the door for them.

Winston Valentine lay on the hospital bed, looking away from the hand-holding couple as they entered.

Vera placed the flowers on the bedside, "Mr. Valentine, thank you for catching the thief and preventing my property loss."

One "Mr. Valentine" made Winston so angry he wanted to spit blood.

"A simple thank you is all you think it takes to dismiss me?"

Vera sincerely said, "I will cover your medical expenses."

Winston closed his eyes.

Miles put down the items, walked to Vera’s side, and looked coldly at the man on the bed, "Medical expenses, lost wages, we can compensate you for all of this."

Winston looked at his proprietary demeanor, his face darkening, "Counselor Monroe sure is wealthy."

Miles naturally put his arm around Vera’s shoulder, "No matter what, you helped Vera, and we should thank you as much as we can for that."

Looking at the intimate gestures of the two, Winston sarcastically said, "If Counselor Monroe could spend a little more effort protecting his girlfriend, there would be no need to thank me."

Vera saw his poor attitude and couldn’t help but say, "You just happened to help out..."

"Then please let your boyfriend protect you well, I can’t always happen to help you." Winston pressed his wound, his face growing paler.

Vera saw him like this and instinctively asked, "Is your wound hurting?"

Winston looked at the rare concern in her eyes, turned his head away, "I’ve been stabbed twice, do you think it hurts? If it had been another centimeter to the right, you’d be thanking me at the funeral home."

"Winston Valentine!"

"Haven’t you always wished me dead?"

Vera thought of the bandages the nurse had just taken away, "I haven’t wished you dead."

Winston’s expression showed some pain; he seemed to be enduring something, and Vera couldn’t help but say, "If it hurts too much, use painkillers, don’t force yourself."

Winston closed his eyes in pain, somewhat dazed, since the divorce, she seldom spoke to him in such a tone.

Vera saw he still hadn’t opened his eyes, thinking he had passed out, she instinctively went forward and patted his cheek, "Winston Valentine, wake up!"

He still didn’t react.

Vera was about to press the call bell, when Winston suddenly grabbed her hand.

Vera hadn’t reacted yet when a force already pulled her away, and Miles pulled her behind him, "Mr. Valentine, if you need help, I can help you, men are better suited."

Winston leaned against the bedhead, as if still feeling her touch on his palm.

Looking at Miles’ obviously displeased expression, Winston’s voice was cold, "I don’t need any help, saving someone ungrateful, pain death also deserved, you should leave."

Miles took hold of Vera’s hand and unhesitatingly led her out of the hospital room.

Walter saw them leave, and then walked into the room respectfully, "President Valentine, those two confessed that it was a spur of the moment decision, hearing Miss Yves lived alone, with some background, so they targeted her, no mention of being instructed."

"Knock, knock, knock!"

Someone knocked on the door.

Walter went to open the door, and saw two bodyguards bringing Rae Rhodes inside.

Rae saw Winston lying on the hospital bed, and with emotions welling up, she immediately wanted to cry, but when Winston glanced at her, she was scared into silence.

"You should know why I called you here."

Rae quickly said, "I... I don’t know, I only know we’re half-siblings, you wouldn’t harm me."

Winston got down from the bed, his face pale, but his gaze growing colder, "With you, you think you deserve to be my sister?"

Rae was frightened by his gaze, stepping back a few steps, blocked by the two bodyguards.

Winston signaled Walter with his eyes, and Walter immediately handed the photos of the two men to Rae.

"Do you recognize them?"

Rae was so frightened she let go of them, "No... I don’t know them."

"Don’t know them? They’ve already confessed everything."

Winston sat on the nearby sofa, wincing in pain, "Going in with knives, waiting in ambush, you aren’t just greedy, you’re planning murder!"

"I don’t know what you’re talking about! I want to find my parents!"

"Aren’t your parents long dead?" Winston snickered, "Did you really think that one fake paternity test report would make you Tristan Valentine’s illegitimate daughter?"

Winston picked up the paperwork on the table and tossed it at her, "Why hurt Vera?"

Did she somehow learn Vera’s true identity?

Rae’s complexion paled, but she quickly regained composure, "Do you think Tristan Valentine doesn’t know I’m a fake? He deliberately acts oblivious, making me play along with that dying bitch’s charades!"

Winston’s eyes grew more intense.

Rae looked at him with determined eyes, "So what if I’m a fake? Cleo Sutton only cooperates with treatment because of me, Tristan Valentine definitely won’t let me come to harm! Would you dare to touch me?"

Winston leaned against the back of the chair, letting out a cold laugh, "Tristan Valentine fears her dying, but I don’t fear her death, you’ve reminded me, exposing your identity, maybe it will send her sooner to meet her doom."

Seeing the malice in his eyes, Rae’s calm disappeared.

She suddenly "flopped" to her knees, "Please, have mercy! Forgive me this once, I know I was wrong, greed led me astray with Vera!"

"Even if fake, Tristan Valentine shouldn’t be stingy to his ’illegitimate daughter.’"

Rae, spiteful, said, "I am not actually Tristan Valentine’s biological daughter!"

Winston’s gaze darkened, "Of course I know you’re not."

Rae hastily shook her head, "That’s not what I meant, I originally thought becoming this illegitimate daughter, I would enjoy wealth and comfort, but besides Cleo Sutton genuinely giving me some money, Tristan Valentine rarely buys me anything because... even a real illegitimate daughter isn’t likely to be favored."

Winston’s heart raced, "Why?"

"I overheard Tristan Valentine chatting with Cleo Sutton, the illegitimate daughter they’re looking for isn’t their child, but one Cleo Sutton bore with another man."
