Chapter 120: Chapter 120: Reliable Boyfriend

After leaving the Valentine Family, Vera Yves called Miles and they arranged to have lunch at a restaurant near his law firm.

Miles was dressed in a suit, looking quite meticulous.

Vera earnestly said, "I finally understand why you’re such a great lawyer."

Miles smiled at her, "Why?"

"Because when you wear a suit, you exude four words—’I am reliable’."

Miles looked at her serious expression, his gaze softening a bit, "So, also a reliable boyfriend."

Vera teased him, "What kind of reliable boyfriend doesn’t even have time for a date?"

"I didn’t plan well. How about a date this afternoon?"

Vera’s eyes brightened, "Really?"

"If I’m lying, I’m a puppy."

Vera couldn’t help but speed up her eating; where would be a good place for the first date?

After lunch, Miles gave her a few choices—watch a movie, visit an art exhibition, go shopping, or to an amusement park.

Although he was discharged from the hospital, the knife wound on his body wouldn’t heal quickly, so Vera chose to watch a movie.

In the end, they chose a romantic art film.

Miles got her a cola, popcorn, and they picked seats in the middle.

The beginning of the movie was a bit dull, but reached its climax midway. Out of the corner of her eye, Vera noticed a couple kissing in the front row.

She quickly averted her gaze and ate a few more popcorns.

In the dim theater, Vera vaguely saw several couples kissing. Weren’t they here to watch the movie?

Her hand was held, pulling back her attention, but she couldn’t follow the movie’s plot anymore.

Feeling the person next to her leaning closer, Vera’s breath paused, warm breath brushed her face, and she didn’t know how to react.

A bright face suddenly flashed on the screen.

Someone in front whispered, "I heard Jane Shea is friends with the movie’s director, so she made a cameo for three minutes."

"She’s so beautiful! Her styling is stunning!"

Miles helped Vera remove a crumb from the corner of her mouth, and the ambiguity seemed to vanish instantly.

After watching the movie, they strolled around the mall downstairs.

"Vera, does Rae Rhodes come to you often?"

Vera shook her head, "She’s a patient’s relative, although we’ve met a few times, I’m actually not familiar with her."

"Try to avoid contact with her in the future, she’s not of good character."

Vera was surprised; it was rare to hear him judge someone so decisively, "Did something unpleasant happen when you took her yesterday?"

Miles nodded.

Vera didn’t ask further; after all, he’s been getting a lot of romantic attention for his looks since he was young.

But Rae... seeking her help one moment and then trying to steal her man the next, she indeed has poor character.

"What does Uncle Yves like?" Miles, holding her hand, asked, "Should we buy him tea leaves, tea sets, or some good wine?"

Vera looked at him puzzled, "Why are you buying things for my dad out of the blue?"

"Not just your dad, there’s also Aunt Hayes and Mark Yves."

Vera stopped in her tracks, "You’re going to my house?"

Miles squeezed her hand and smiled, "If I don’t visit soon, I’m worried Aunt Hayes will continue setting up blind dates for you. What if you run off with someone else?"

"I’ve told her not to arrange any more blind dates for me."

"Vera, I think I’m quite presentable as a boyfriend, don’t you think?"

Vera hesitated. 𝒇𝒓𝙚𝒆𝔀𝓮𝓫𝒏𝓸𝙫𝓮𝓵.𝓬𝙤𝙢

"We’re in a normal relationship." Miles looked at her seriously, "Don’t overthink it, and don’t put too much pressure on yourself."

Indeed, a normal relationship, proceeding step by step into the future, with a steady, grounded feeling that is really nice.

They bought many things and finally decided to visit her home on the weekend.

They had dinner outside, and Miles escorted her back to the apartment.

When they reached the apartment’s entrance, they noticed many things placed at the door of the other unit.

This building only has two units per floor; previously, Vera hadn’t paid attention to whether the other unit was occupied.

Vera chose to live here mainly because of its convenience in transportation; although it’s not a new complex, the facilities aren’t very updated.

"It seems someone is moving in next door." Miles also saw the things at the door.

Vera nodded, and they walked into the room together.

Vera brought out the materials she had gathered online, Miles read through them, "The problem lies at Wellspring Pharmacy. It’s very likely that Simon Warren’s death is related to them."

Vera nodded, "The traditional Chinese medicine doctors hired by Wellspring Pharmacy are very reputable in the field. They probably aren’t supporting him for free; there must be a conflict of interest."

Miles’s face was somber, "In terms of reputation, who could match Grandpa Yves when he was alive? Could it be that Wellspring Pharmacy wanted to leverage Grandpa Yves’s reputation to promote themselves, but he refused."

"I remember when I was a sophomore, a pharmaceutical company did contact me to collaborate with Grandpa. After I asked him, he refused, and they never contacted me again. Could it be that they subsequently approached Grandpa?"

At that time, Simon Warren was in charge of Grandpa’s affairs.

Miles held her hand, "Vera, all of this is just our speculation, but we have a general direction now, so investigating will be quicker."

Vera’s eyes were a bit sore. Even if the investigation had results, how many people would remember Grandpa?

After all, the investigation back then didn’t find him guilty, but public opinion still crushed Grandpa.

But Grandpa was a good doctor; he shouldn’t be forgotten like this.

"I’ll make you some tea." Vera got up and went to the kitchen.

Miles went through the materials once again.

While Vera was making tea, her phone chimed. She glanced at it; it was a notification from Weibo with an explosive headline—"Jane Shea Buying Drinks Late at Night, Kissing a Mysterious Man."

Hot water overflowed, snapping Vera back to reality. She wiped the spill and picked up her phone, clicking on the news.

The content wasn’t as explosive, just a few pictures of a man helping Jane Shea out of a bar. One picture, due to the angle, indeed looked like they were kissing.

Vera exited the page and brought the tea cup out.

After having tea, Miles had to return to the law firm to get some materials, so he didn’t stay long. Vera saw him into the elevator, and as the doors closed, just as she turned, she saw someone standing at the door of the apartment next door.

"Aren’t you afraid he’s going to see Jane Shea?"
