Together Apart: Her White Moonlight Has Returned Too-Chapter 114: Are You Going to Call Me Daddy or Not!
Miles Monroe’s eyes flickered slightly, "If it bothered me, I wouldn’t be with her. I just have some regrets."
Regrets for leaving so hastily back then, regrets for not being by her side when Grandpa Yves was in trouble, and regrets for realizing her feelings so late.
Penelope Langley shook her head, "She’s long past being that naive little girl. For a family like The Valentines, do you think she could have married in without some tactics?"
Miles Monroe looked at her with disappointment, "Mom, you watched Vera Yves grow up, others may doubt and accuse her, but do you have to join in too?"
Penelope sighed, "Miles, people change! Weren’t you also so sure that you and Jane Shea would end up together, and what happened?"
Penelope spoke earnestly, "Why did you break up with her? Wasn’t it because Jane had changed?"
Miles Monroe replied firmly, "Vera won’t."
Vera Yves stayed with The Valentine Family until the afternoon, and only after confirming that Old Mrs. Valentine wouldn’t have any more issues did she leave.
She made a trip to Hillside Villa.
Cleo Sutton had caught a cold from going out that day, and Vera adjusted her prescription and performed acupuncture on several points.
Cleo Sutton finally felt a bit more comfortable.
Beside her, Rae Rhodes was crying like a weeping willow, "Mom, it’s all my fault, I shouldn’t have gone to see Grandma on my own."
Cleo Sutton held her hand without any intention of blaming her, "It’s Mom’s fault, for not being by your side when you were young, making you suffer so much."
Rae asked cautiously, "After we returned from the hospital, Mr. Valentine has been ignoring me. Is he mad at me?"
Cleo Sutton looked at her lovingly, "Rhea, actually... you’re not..."
Rae held her hand, "Not what?"
"Cleo." Tristan Valentine entered the room, speaking gently, "The needles were just in, you shouldn’t talk, just rest a while."
Tristan then turned to Rae, "Your Uncle Grant is waiting downstairs to take you shopping for things you like."
Rae’s eyes brightened, "Mr. Valentine, you’re not mad at me?"
"If Cleo isn’t blaming you, I naturally won’t either."
Rae finally relaxed, wiping tears from her eyes before happily going downstairs.
Vera packed her things, ready to leave. Watching Rae’s cheerful steps, she thought, Tristan Valentine was too cold to this daughter separated for over twenty years.
Isn’t he supposed to be doting on the daughter he has with Cleo Sutton?
Vera left the Hillside Villa, approaching evening. She stopped at The Summit to pack some meals before heading to the hospital.
Zoe Monroe and Miles Monroe sat on the hospital room sofa, Zoe swiping her phone while eating an apple, grumbling, "Her interview says that, it’s clearly setting you up!"
Seeing Vera enter, Zoe instantly went silent.
Vera smiled at them, "Dinner’s ready."
Zoe went to wash her hands, then joined Vera, "It smells so good, Vera, you’re really a model wife and mother."
Vera shook her head helplessly.
Zoe asked cautiously, "Vera, were you busy today?"
"Quite busy."
Zoe noticeably breathed a sigh of relief, hoping Vera hadn’t noticed the trending search removals from the afternoon.
Vera smiled at her, "But no matter how busy, I have time for the internet."
Hearing this, Zoe gave Miles an apologetic look.
Miles tapped her forehead, "If you’re so free, maybe I should arrange a date for you to marry before New Year."
"Hey, what is this? Not appreciating my hard work! Without me, would you have won Vera over?" Zoe stood tall, "When you hold your wedding, I’m sitting at the main table!"
Vera blushed slightly at this.
Miles laughed, "We’ll make sure you’re seated with my brother-in-law at the main table."
Zoe packed her bag, "Don’t worry, you’ll never have a brother-in-law from me! I’m leaving now, enjoy your alone time!"
Vera called after her, "I bought a lot, stay and eat before you go."
Zoe casually waved goodbye and left.
Vera handed chopsticks to Miles, "Did your wound hurt today?"
Miles took them, "A little."
Sitting at the table, Vera served him some food, "Did the doctor say when you can be discharged?"
"In three days."
Miles observed her calm face, clearing his throat, "Vera, is there anything you want to ask me? If you do, I can tell you anything."
Vera smiled at him, "Miles, would you like to know about my married life with Winston Valentine?"
Miles shook his head.
"Let what’s past stay in the past," Vera said calmly, "I don’t want to know nor do I need to, as you said, let’s look ahead together."
After all, she had grieved deeply when it mattered.
Miles held her hand, and Vera reciprocated, apologizing, "I have to visit The Valentine Family for the old lady’s treatment these few days, I might not have much time to see you."
"I’ve already found a place; once I’m discharged, I’ll move out from home." Miles smiled at her, "Then you can come see me anytime you want."
Her phone rang, and Vera withdrew her hand. Miles picked up his phone, seeing the caller ID, his expression darkened, and he rejected the call.
The caller persisted, and Miles hung up again, this time receiving a text message.
Miles ignored it.
After dinner, Vera tidied up, knowing Penelope Langley would come in the evening, she didn’t stay at the hospital.
Back at her apartment, Vera compared the medicine she bought earlier, finding Wellspring Pharmacy’s quality inferior to her usual picks.
Yet over the years, Wellspring had excelled in online marketing, even securing endorsements from renowned traditional medicine doctors.
Their prices soared, and they produced several popular proprietary Chinese medicines.
Could Simon Warren’s fake medicines be supplying them?
Her phone interrupted her thoughts; Zoe’s slightly tipsy voice came through, "Vera, I just slapped Stella’s face swollen! I finally avenged you!"
Vera thought she misheard, "Where are you?"
"At Monarch, that little brat Stella dared call you out in front of me, as if I’d just take it!" Zoe gritted out, "If I don’t make her cry ’Papa’ today, I’ll take her surname!"
Then Vera heard women’s screams, mixed with the sound of slaps, "Stella, are you going to call ’Papa’ or not?"
The call abruptly ended.
Vera called back but no one answered, so she hurriedly donned her coat and rushed out.
Arriving at Monarch, Vera called Zoe again. This time a man answered, "Come to the grand suite to pick her up."
The voice was somewhat familiar.
