To His Hell and Back-Chapter 246: The Accusations-I
Chapter 246: The Accusations-I
"When is he leaving?"
Standing by the window was Queen Morgana, staring at the castle’s entrance which had been covered in black to hold Marissa’s funeral. By now, the news of her death had spread far and wide, all over the villages to the bastard sons of all noble families of Versailles.
The news wouldn’t have spread far usually, of course as it was done by Morgana herself to make sure the news would reach everyone’s ears: the humans, the vampires, and the sorcerers.
After receiving the news, the discord between humans and vampires turn for the worse. The reason for Marissa’s death shouldn’t have been disclosed but Morgana made sure that it was known to everyone that their dearest princess had been turned into remnant by a potion administered to her body. Having no choice, then the crown prince put her down and was in a great despair.
This news affected the vampires who became even more fearful of the humans and the potions that they have acquired. Their fear turned into anger and now they demanded many rules and laws to be put to the humans as well as making sure that they would have no more freedom so they wouldn’t dare to attack vampires or turn them into remnant, so the history wouldn’t repeat itself.
Meanwhile, the humans feared the vampires’ anger. They believe that not all of them held hatred towards vampires or the wish to turn them into remnants but due to the other humans who had killed Marissa, they now became a target and would soon have to pay the price for the Princess’ death.
Morgana smiled widely as she stared at the servants who had became even more polarized, the vampire maids staying far away from the human maids while holding contempt in their eyes as they believe the humans all are as evil as the one who had killed their princess.
Minister Rueben looked at his pocket watch before shutting it with a click, "The Crown Prince should be on his way soon. He would be gone for a long while after Princess Marissa’s burial which is in an hour, Your Majesty."
"Ah right, her funeral. I almost forgot about that," said Morgana with a huff, "So tedious, couldn’t we just bury her? In a week, no one would remember her name anymore so this kind of funeral hold to celebrate her death is entirely futile."
Minister Rueben chuckled, "However, it would make the hatred between vampires and humans even stronger if you appear, Your Majesty. You should weep and wail, yell to everyone there that this death was caused by humans, and you would never forgive them. This should unsettle the humans and ignite the vampires’ fury inside the chapel." fɾeeweɓnѳveɭ.com
"You spoke the truth," Morgana smiled as she picked up her black ribbon and tied it around her neck. Though she wore all black, she despised the lack of color and added a hint of red to her lips and nails, a tradition usually avoided by the vampires who saw red as an auspicious color. "Well then let us go."
The place where the last visit to see Princess Marissa was held in the chapel of the building, the place which was never used for prayers but was built by the late human king. At first, Arabella who was burdened with guilt didn’t think that it was right for her to visit Princess Marissa’s funeral.
However, Karnala arrived with a fresh set of black dress and invited her to the funeral. Though Karnala was as stiff as ever, Arabella felt that the maid was gentler than ever before. She had knocked softly and came to her with a gentle look on her eyes even if she wasn’t smiling.
"But I shouldn’t," Arabella said and Karnala shook her head. "Cassius wouldn’t want me there."
"He does, His Highness does," Karnala confirmed, gently pressing her hand so she could hold the black dress. "And more than ever does His Highness need your company."
Touched by the maid’s words, Arabella shifted her green eyes to the dress. She wished she could try to hide her eye color, perhaps by covering it with a lace but she wouldn’t be able to see if she did so.
Though her body felt heavy, Arabella moved to put the dress on herself. Her head still had a gauze over it but with Karnala’s help, she managed to hide the wound so it wouldn’t be too striking for the funeral.
By the time she arrived at the chapel, she could feel the quietness that gloomed the entire castle. Every single color of the castle felt as if it had been sucked into black and white, leaving it empty and bleak.
All the visitor’s eyes were red around their rims and there were mostly vampires instead of humans as when one human noble entered the chapel, the hatred in the vampires’ eyes were far too powerful for one to not feel burdened by it.
Arabella herself slowly entered the chapel and though she had walked in quietly, it still caused for eyes to turn toward her and the hateful gaze to roll in. Ignoring the gaze, she continued to pace inside, turning to see the stained glass on the ceiling and how underneath it was the white coffin and red camellia all over the coffin’s side.
It suited Princess Marissa and how she would have loved to be surrounded by the flowers. Yet at she thought so, sadness filled her heart, thinking that Marissa’s life was taken too early than it should.
As she looked around to find a place where she could settle in, a hand held her by the elbow and when she turned, she was startled to see Cassius’s face.
His face had always been on the paler side by now it appeared even paler than usual. His eyes were bloodshot on the other hand and though his expression showed as if this hadn’t bothered him, she could tell how heartbroken he was. How he wished that he wouldn’t have to be here even if it means exchanging his own life.
