To Byul (Omegaverse)-Chapter 121: You’re not an outsider
Meanwhile, Yun-tae and Woo-bin were on their amazing spy-venture.
Woo-bin had definitely prepared extensively for this. It looked like he had done this a couple of times. He was like a veteran.
’I feel like this is more like his job than a creepy hobby,’ Yun-tae thought, after watching him for a while. "Ahjussi, why don’t you go into acting?" He suddenly asked and Woo-bin turned to Yun-tae. "I’m sure you’d do great if you acted in a spy movie,"
"Well, I am a jack of all trades in the entertainment industry," Woo-bin proudly said with his nose pointed in the air. "But..." He lowered his head, smiling faintly. "I’m too lazy for that. Shooting movies take too long and I’d rather be at home watching my baby Hwa sleeping than out there with a bunch of strangers."
"Oh," Yun-tae watched him. "You really love your family, Chin-hwa to be precise."
Woo-bin smiled and put down his binoculars. He said,
"Do you know our story?" He asked and Yun-tae quickly snapped his fingers.
"Are you talking about A.A.B?" He asked and Woo-bin laughed.
"Yeah, that one." He said. "But some parts had to be cut out so the public does not really know the full content of how Hae-won suffered, how much I had to do so I wouldn’t lose my mind, and how much regret ate at Baek-Hyun’s heart every single day when he watched Hae-won on that darn hospital bed." His voice sounded heavy and sorrowful. "There are so many things that were cut out of the novel and even more was cut out in the movie, haha." He laughed. "So, the public might think they know all there is to our relationship and how we got together but it was way harsher and harder than that."
Yun-tae went silent. They suffered, huh?
He could never imagine how much they suffered seeing how strongly knit their family was and how the love still hadn’t faded even after more than 20 years of being together and seeing each other’s faces.
It was as if they were just getting to know each other, getting to know what the other liked, and avoiding any unnecessary argument that would make them fight or raise their voices.
They left that last part for the kids, and it was up to them to smack some sense into their heads for raising their voices in the house; Alpha or not, they were still kids, so they needed to learn manners before it was too late.
"I care for my family so much and I would do anything for them." He declared. "Though, I can’t lie that I don’t feel a bit jealous when I see them having fun without me; it just makes me happy to watch them laugh and smile. That’s why I’m watching them up close," he laughed as he pointed at his binoculars. "I’m watching to see how much they make each other happy and if I am lacking in any way..." His words sounded sad but he shook his head and changed the flow of the conversation. "Anyway, I treasure these moments more than anything, the peace and the knowledge that everything is running on the right track. So, I would never let any outsider sully our connection," he added.
"What does that mean?" Yun-tae asked but Woo-bin only responded with a smile and raised his binoculars to take a look once more.
They were seated in a cafe shop that had glass for walls while Baek-Hyun and Hae-won were seated outside another shop right opposite theirs, under a canopy umbrella and chatting over shaved ice. They were laughing too, probably catching up on what each other missed in the time when they were away from each other.
Anyway, when Woo-bin those words to Yun-tae, Yun-tae wondered if it was a warning.
After all, he was an outsider who seemed to be getting too attached to his son.
Then, had all this been a...?
Woo-bin turned his head to Yun-tae whose head was a mess trying to figure everything out.
"Don’t think too much about it. You’re not an outsider." Woo-bin suddenly said and Yun-tae’s eyes widened. "You’re Hwa’s friend, so you’re not an outsider."
Yun-tae nodded frantically. His head had already gone to a heartbreaking conclusion but he was glad Woo-bin had cleared it up.
"Then, what did you mean by that? You... You had me worried, Ahjussi." He glanced away and Woo-bin laughed.
"Sorry, sorry. I have the habit of just spilling my thoughts to anyone in comfortable with while retaining the most important information." He said as he laughed. "Yun-tae, do you know about Chin-hwa and Kang-woo’s relationship?" He asked and Chin-hwa flinched.
’Ah, that’s scared me.’ he thought, his heart suddenly racing. ’It felt like I was getting interrogated all of a sudden.’ he cleared his throat.
"Those two have been like two peas in the pod since they were born. They do everything together and know each other the best, but they somehow don’t understand each other." He slightly clenched on the binoculars, his eyes growing dark. "It exhausts me to know I can’t do anything about it because it’s ’their life’ but I don’t like that they are so dumb when it comes to their own hearts. I guess Hwa took that trait from Baek-Hyun because if he had my romantic expertise, then he’d have figured it out by now."
Yun-tae gulped. Everyone was saying the same thing. They were all saying that Kang-woo and Chin-hwa were made for each other and that was the final conclusion, even if those two did not know it yet.
If they intervened, it would look like they were dictating their lives and giving them an easy route, so they were letting them handle it on their own, no matter how long it was going to take.
"Do you think...?" Yun-tae began to ask, "That they are just confused?"
"Hm?" Woo-bin wondered what he was on about and watched him twiddle his thumb.
"Because they grew up so close and did everything together, share their heart, their likes and dislikes and always acted so intimate... Do you think that’s the reason why they have never actually thought of the possibility that the other might be in love with them?"
Woo-bin stayed silent, his eyes slightly widened. He was bewildered. Why didn’t he think of that?
He thought deeply about it, his finger finger pressed on his lips and his thumb pinching his chin.
Yun-tae saw this and clenched his hands. He spoke according to what he had observed. They did love each other but they were interpreting the other person’s love and care as something that was ’natural’ since that was how it had always been.
They had no idea that the feelings were romantic signals. And there might’ve been one point where both of them misunderstood each other’s actual feelings so now they would never think towards that direction.
"That’s really a smart thought, Yun-tae." Woo-bin said. "I didn’t think of that all this while. But even with this information, I still don’t know what to do to help them." He sighed. "They’re both so stubborn that they make the whole situation complicated. Those kids." He shook his head.
"I see," Yun-tae said, slowly lowering his eyes when Woo-bin said,
"But why are you helping them though?" He suddenly asked and Yun-tae raised his gaze, confused. What did he mean by...? "Aren’t you in love with Kang-woo?"
Yun-tae’s eyes widened. What did he say? No, how did he know?
He watched Woo-bin’s straight expression on him. It didn’t look like he was trying to sound him out or scold him either. He was well aware of it but was okay with it?
"Relax, kid." Woo-bin said. "It’s not like I’m trying to kill you or anything, I’m just curious as to what’s going through your mind right now. You want to help my Hwa with his love life despite you being in love with Kang-woo, so I want to know what your intentions are."
Yun-tae’s heart pounded loudly. He could hear his own heart beating in his ear drums. He was confused and conflicted. What would he say at this point?
Kang-woo told him not to let their family find out but he didn’t even do anything. It was like Woo-bin knew from the start.
"Kid," Woo-bin called. "Like I said, I just want to know what’s going through your mind. I’m not trying to scold you."
"H-how long?" He asked, his eyes slightly trembling. "How long have you known, Ahjussi?"
Woo-bin glances away and then back to him, smiling brightly.
"From the beginning," he answered and Yun-tae flinched. "And I also know Hwa helped you to get together with Kang-woo. I don’t know what he was trying to achieve, but he did go far there, and I honestly don’t know what my baby is thinking."
Yun-tae stayed silent, staring at Woo-bin whose eyes were once again peering into the binoculars at their targets.
Seriously, why was he so laxed about this?
