Time Travel: The Noble Family-Chapter 1376 - 563: Disappointment
In the blink of an eye, it’s been four days since An Zhichen was imprisoned.
The Imperial Court has been in turmoil these past few days, with the Crown Prince and the Seventh Prince locked in a war of words over An Zhichen’s case. Regardless of how the officials debate, the Emperor remains silent about An Zhichen’s fate. This attitude of the Emperor makes everyone increasingly feel that the monarch’s intentions are unpredictable.
The Chief Steward came in and said, "Madam, Uncle Master is here."
Xiang Wei said coldly, "Why has he come now?" It’s been four days since the incident, and now Lian Tingzheng shows up. What does he plan to do?
Yueyao disagreed with Xiang Wei’s view, saying, "Tingzheng is in the Infantry Camp, news doesn’t travel fast there, it’s normal for him to get the message two or three days late."
Xiang Wei snorted coldly, but when she saw Tingzheng drenched in sweat, her anger dissipated. Seeing Tingzheng’s appearance, it was clear he hurried here.
Tingzheng wiped the sweat from his forehead and asked urgently, "Sis, how’s Brother-in-law?" It’s not really Tingzheng’s fault for coming late; he only got the news this morning from a colleague, not from the family.
Yueyao shook her head and said, "Your brother-in-law is still locked up in the Heavenly Prison, we don’t know how he is." To convey a sense of anxiety, Yueyao purposely stayed up late these past few nights.
Tingzheng asked in haste, "Sis, what exactly is going on?" Tingzheng knew An Zhichen had committed a taboo by secretly deploying the troops, but he didn’t know why they were deployed.
Yueyao explained the whole story.
After hearing it, Tingzheng breathed a sigh of relief, saying, "Sis, don’t worry. Although Brother-in-law mobilized the troops without the Imperial order, as it was for a justified reason and the troops deployed were not many, his life isn’t in danger." He thought it laughable to rebel with just three hundred soldiers; it was absurd. However, An Zhichen might lose his position due to this incident.
Yueyao’s expression eased a lot: "As long as he’s safe, losing his position doesn’t matter."
Tingzheng believed the urgent thing to do was to capture the hidden threat, a lurking danger yet unresolved, which remained a potential risk. Tingzheng offered to stay and protect Yueyao and the children.
Yueyao nodded, saying, "Good." The Earl’s Mansion was in a state of panic; even though Xiang Wei was barely maintaining order, Yueyao still worried about the estate’s safety. If Tingzheng could stay, it would be a blessing. With Tingzheng in An Mansion, alongside Yueyao and Xiang Wei’s assistance, the safety of An Mansion wouldn’t be a concern.
Tingzheng immediately decided to stay.
Xiang Wei said, "Tingzheng, you should go back and fetch some clothes! Staying in the mansion, you’ll need some change of attire." Seeing Tingzheng hesitating, Xiang Wei reassured him, "Don’t worry, even if that scoundrel has the guts, he wouldn’t dare intrude during daylight."
Seeing Yueyao also nod in agreement with Xiang Wei’s suggestion, Tingzheng thought Xiang Wei made sense, so he went home for a while.
After Tingzheng left, Xiang Wei remarked, "If this incident doesn’t make him realize the harm of Madam Lin, then he really is beyond saving." Tingzheng rushing here amidst volatile times showed he hadn’t intentionally delayed. Hence, it’s evident Tingzheng did not receive the information. Such a major affair, even if An Mansion was too chaotic to inform Tingzheng, the Lian family should have notified him.
Yueyao shook her head and said, "Family matters should not be interfered with." It’s likely that this incident was orchestrated by Madam Lin. 𝑓𝘳𝑒𝑒𝓌𝘦𝘣𝘯ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝑚
Xiang Wei agreed with this view. Outsiders saying too much might backfire; letting Tingzheng feel it himself will make him realize how awful Madam Lin truly is.
Upon returning to the mansion, Tingzheng immediately sought Ah Si, eyes blazing, "Such a major incident with Brother-in-law’s family, why wasn’t I informed immediately?" Since hearing about it, Tingzheng was fuming. Such a significant affair, no one informed him at the mansion. Luckily, he received the news in time; otherwise, if the matter was over by the time he was informed, how could he face his sister and brother-in-law?
Ah Si pleaded innocence, saying, "Old Master, it wasn’t that I didn’t want to inform you, but Madam wouldn’t allow it, leaving me no way to go out." Ah Si was trained by Peng Chun, naturally not narrow-minded. Knowing about An Zhichen’s trouble, he prepared to send word to Tingzheng, but Lin Qinghan stopped him.
Lin Qinghan was the household Madam, and Tingzheng had always respected and cherished her, making her position in the family very high. Even though Tingzheng had punished several of Lin Qinghan’s dowry servants last time, it didn’t threaten her status. Ah Si, being a newly appointed Chief Steward, couldn’t possibly contend with Lin Qinghan.
