Thousands of Brilliant Stars: You Deserve the Best!-Chapter 220: My Name Is Number Nine
Number Nine’s voice lowered, as if it added countless hostilities toward Jordan Jacobs. He positioned himself in front of Iris Crawford, and then stared dangerously at Jordan Jacobs and said, "Who are you?"
Jordan hadn’t expected Number Nine to step forward directly. He looked at Iris with a particularly wounded expression, "Are you really not giving me a chance at all?"
"A chance?"
Iris didn’t even blink. She stared straight at Jordan Jacobs, "Back then, you didn’t think to give me a chance to survive, did you?"
Jordan Jacobs, what’s the point of discussing our past relationship now?
Our past relationship is long... gone!
"Yvonne Jennings has already gone to jail, do you still hate me?"
Jordan didn’t care about Number Nine. After pushing him away, he grabbed Iris’s hand, "I’ve already gotten the retribution I deserve... Iris, why is your heart so cold?"
"My heart is cold?"
Iris acted as if she heard a joke. She said to Jordan Jacobs, "At the beginning, it was you who looked down on me, wasn’t it? How is it that I’m a deadweight, yet now you can’t seem to let me go?"
The term "deadweight" was something Jordan Jacobs used to call Iris Crawford in the past.
Jordan had nothing to say, but Iris stepped forward instead, her voice becoming more and more resolute, "Also, let me tell you something, being fat, being ugly, neither is a reason for you to insult others! A woman’s body shape and appearance shouldn’t be for you to criticize. It hasn’t harmed the world or affected anyone; you kept insulting me as a deadweight, and now I’m not afraid of that word at all. I’ve come to terms with my flaws and shortcomings, and I’ve accepted my past."
Whether she’s fat or ugly, even if she’s left with nothing, she won’t be self-conscious anymore.
The ones who use these words to attack others are the most detestable.
After speaking, Iris squeezed Number Nine’s wrist, signaling Number Nine not to go berserk, otherwise, if he attacked Jordan Jacobs in public, everyone would find out it was a robot, likely causing panic.
Number Nine seemed to sense Iris’s emotions, forcibly suppressing the attack mode that was about to activate, then said to Iris, "Did he really call you deadweight in the past?"
"Yes."
Iris let go of Number Nine, spreading her hands, "Deadweight it is then, I don’t mind anymore."
Number Nine said with each word distinct, "I want to carve him into pieces with a hand blade."
"...I believe you could do it."
Iris felt a chill run down her back, then after a while, she made a small laugh to Number Nine, "Oh, don’t be angry, okay? I won’t have anything to do with him, let’s go."
After paying, Iris planned to leave, while Jordan stood dumbfounded behind, unable to believe that all his efforts ended up in vain.
What had this failed marriage really brought him?
Even Iris’s child... wasn’t his.
Jordan’s emotions mixed together, coupled with the surrounding people’s pointing fingers, he felt he lost both face and dignity. After Iris and Number Nine left one after another, Jordan gritted his teeth and rushed up!
Number Nine sensed an oncoming gust from behind, and without time to react, after calculating the worst results, he instinctively reached out to support the woman beside him, shouting, "Iris, watch out!"
Iris didn’t realize what was happening at all, and just as she reached the roadside, she was fiercely struck from behind, sending her whole body forward!
Jordan Jacobs screamed at the top of his lungs, "If I can’t have you, then I won’t let any other man have you either—Iris, don’t blame me for being ruthless!"
Iris was pushed directly into the middle of the road by Jordan Jacobs, and as she fell onto the ground trying to stand up, Number Nine screamed at the top of his lungs from the side, "Get out of the way, Iris!!"
It was too late!
A large truck raced down the main road, and before Iris could even stand up, she felt an overwhelming impact. The intense pain accompanied the impact as it hit her. Her vision darkened as the world seemed to flip and distort before she blacked out.
"Iris! Iris!"
Blood... Iris’s blood gushed out like a fountain.
She lay on the ground limp, like a scattered assembly of parts.
Number Nine rushed over but stopped when he reached Iris.
Humans are so fragile, what if with just a little force, Iris’s bones break...
Number Nine swayed, then kneeled straight down.
What to do?
His brain, his supercomputer, can it tell him, faced with this situation, as an artificial being, what should he do...
How can he save Iris...
Number Nine doesn’t have a program to tremble, unlike humans, he won’t show his emotions. He just stood there dazed and numb until bystanders came forward to help call the police and the ambulance, and then Number Nine reacted sharply that he needed to handle this matter.
Handle.
The words solve flashed through Number Nine’s mind.
He needed to kill the person who pushed Iris into the middle of the street!
Standing tall and straight, Number Nine turned back to look at Jordan Jacobs, finding him trying to sneak away through the crowd.
More and more good-hearted bystanders surrounded Iris, protecting the initial crime scene with a human wall, while Number Nine squeezed out from the crowd. He locked onto Jordan Jacobs using his infrared heat-sensitive targeting system, highlighting him in red, and followed him all the way into a small alley!
In the dark corner, Jordan Jacobs trembled, clutching the wall and shaking non-stop.
He couldn’t believe this was something he did in a fit of impulse, how could this have happened... He had killed Iris once before, and now he pushed Iris into the street only to be hit by a car!
He...
He killed someone.
He killed someone!
Clenching his fists, Jordan Jacobs thought he had sneaked away unnoticed, so he convinced himself saying, "Iris, this isn’t my fault... it’s you... you didn’t give me a chance, I couldn’t help it... I’ve worked so hard, and still, you won’t accept me..."
Before he could finish, he heard footsteps behind him.
Jordan trembled, turned back to see Number Nine chasing after him.
"How did you... know I was here?"
He had clearly snuck away unnoticed, no one should’ve noticed him.
Number Nine didn’t speak, waving his right hand in the air, the skin on it automatic rolling up, revealing mechanical bones of the arm synthesizing into a sharp blade!
Jordan Jacobs turned pale, "Are you human? You’re not human! What kind of monster—are you!"
Number Nine looked deeply at Jordan Jacobs, his eyes emitted a red glow, and a mechanical voice surged from his mouth, "Attack mode activated."
The next second, the steel blade penetrated through Jordan Jacobs’ chest!
The immense pain left Jordan Jacobs too weak to scream, he just gaped in bewildered agony, spitting out blood, then Number Nine pulled the blade out harshly from his chest, flesh and blood spilling on the ground!
"Monster..."
Jordan Jacobs clutched his chest as he fell to the ground.
"Threat eliminated."
Number Nine flicked the blood on the steel blade with force, then waved it, immediately transforming it back into the form of an arm.
"You killed, so you should pay with your life."
Number Nine looked at Jordan Jacobs, watching him draw his last breath, "My name is Phoenix Nine, and my duty is to protect Iris Crawford."
