Thousands of Brilliant Stars: You Deserve the Best!-Chapter 198: This Was Never My Intention
Upon hearing Jonas Kingsley’s words, even amidst the severe pain, Iris Crawford summoned the strength to flash him a sarcastic smile, "Why does everyone only remember Lachlan Wyatt? It’s because you... aren’t as good as him."
Those three words, ’aren’t as good as him,’ completely shattered Jonas Kingsley’s rationality. He grabbed Iris’s hair as if he intended to twist her head off. His feelings towards Iris were incredibly complex.
He couldn’t understand why he always enjoyed seeing Iris in danger, why he desperately wanted to see her in distress.
Because Iris was too strong, like a Valkyrie.
In that case, he would do everything to see her damaged in battle.
"You all only ever side with Lachlan Wyatt."
Jonas displayed an indescribable expression on his face, "No matter what I do, whether I’m a perfect person or a despicable human scum, none of you would look at me twice."
It was pitiful for him, committing numerous evils, and yet he wasn’t even remembered.
"Even when Lachlan chose to break with the Wyatt Family for Felix, the old man’s mouth was forever reciting Lachlan!"
Jonas no longer referred to Hugh Wyatt as his father but as "the old man."
Despite all his efforts, people felt calling him by name was unnecessary.
Blood slowly dripped down from Iris’s hand; perhaps she had nicked a crucial artery. There was no sign of it stopping. Jonas cradled Iris’s head and said, "Open your eyes and look at me. I’m the one who made you like this, not Lachlan."
Iris kept her eyes tightly shut, showing no intention of looking at him.
Jonas, angry, slammed Iris hard to the ground. The fall tugged at her wound, causing her to tremble violently from the pain. The blood trail widened further, with the metallic smell spreading through the air.
A man in black nodded from the side, "Third Young Master, how should we handle this..."
"Ignore her."
Jonas stood up, as if his previous loss of control was just an illusion. His face was excessively pale, devoid of any humanity. He looked numbly at Iris and said, "Let her lie here and bleed out, bit by bit."
With that, Jonas turned and left, as if laughing at the moment when Iris became her defeat.
Iris gritted her teeth and opened her eyes, just a sliver.
She trembled, unable to speak fully, and uttered a weak cry that still sent shivers down Jonas’s spine.
She said, "I’m not dead... next, it’s your turn."
******
When Lachlan burst through the door, Jonas’s men had long since left the villa. He first had Felix guard the entrance to prevent him from seeing anything disturbing, fearing Felix’s distress would trouble Lachlan even more.
Instead, rushing inside, he saw Iris lying in a pool of blood.
At that moment, it was as if someone’s hand tightly clenched his heart. Lachlan shouted as he ran forward. Seeing the torn wound on Iris’s wrist, his body shook violently, as if suffering that pain himself. He cradled Iris, trembling, "Iris, open your eyes, Iris!"
Iris gave no response, terrifying Lachlan enough to lean closer to check her breath. Then, more voices emerged from outside the door, footsteps approached, and James Chesterton appeared at the door, while Sarah Shaw took Felix away and toward a car. She then asked Lachlan, "Is Iris inside!"
"She is."
Lachlan, trembling, lifted Iris from the ground, his eyes reddening, "Iris, don’t let anything happen, I’m begging you..."
"Take her to the base; I can still save her!"
Peach shouted, "Sarah, take Felix and Shane back first, don’t let the child know, James, seal the information, Martin, prepare to drive back to the base, Patrick, help contact Iris’s brother!"
It was the first time Lachlan felt such heart-wrenching pain, holding Iris and fearing he could lose her at any moment.
More painful than when Iris was kidnapped...
Lachlan, looking at Peach, had eyes red with tears, "Save Iris, I’ll find the Rowan Family!"
Peach stopped Lachlan, "You’ve decided it’s the Rowan Family who did this?"
"They paid people to do it, I’m sure."
Lachlan’s voice was filled with murderous intent. Iris’s fragile state made him unbearable to watch, wishing he could bear the pain for her.
How could someone as proud as her accept her hand being crippled?
Hearing Lachlan’s words, Peach was also emotional, "Don’t worry, no matter what happens, our whole agency will bear it together!"
Carrying Iris into the car, Lachlan reached out and held Iris’s now powerless right hand. Closing his eyes, he wondered what Iris felt at the time. Was she hopeless? Did she think of crying for help?
Lachlan couldn’t hold back, his voice choked with emotion.
"I came too late..."
Iris remained lifeless, unresponsive, only a weak breath signifying she was still alive. Still, as the blood left her body, her temperature dropped, nearing hypovolemic shock.
Lachlan could no longer bear it and took out his phone to call Orion Crawford. At that moment, his eyes were like murder weapons, "Orion, I have something to do. If something happens to me, take care of Iris."
At home, Orion was startled by Lachlan’s words, "What are you going to do?"
Previously, he told Lachlan to stay away from Iris, but now Lachlan was the one ready to go to battle for her.
There was no time to think. Lachlan took Iris back to the base, staying by her side, watching Peach perform emergency surgery. Meanwhile, having received the news about his sister’s injury, the entire Crawford Family couldn’t sit still.
As Iris’s sister, Skye Lockwood listened silently to Patrick recount the whole process, sipped a glass of water, and then stormed out of the house, not stopping despite Orion’s calls.
At the Rowan Family’s door, Jonas was meeting with Seth Rowan, intending to inform Seth of Iris’s current state. However, Skye’s urgent footsteps arrived before Jonas could speak, coming into Seth’s view.
Seth was stunned, thinking Skye was there to apologize on behalf of Iris. To his surprise, Skye’s ice-cold face showed no sign of apology. She brushed Jonas aside and slapped Seth’s face directly!
With a loud smack, the force was fueled by intense hatred!
Usually composed and unemotional, Skye’s emotional outburst spoke volumes of her extreme anger!
Seth, clutching his face in disbelief, said to Skye, "What are you doing, Skye! Do you want to pit the Crawford Family against the Rowan Family?"
"Against? Killing you wouldn’t even be enough to quench my anger!" Skye shouted, pointing at Seth, "Your sister’s ankle injury isn’t even determined yet, and you let my sister endure this? You think I wouldn’t dare hold you accountable? My sister’s tendons were severed, and it’s your doing. I’m telling you; the Crawford and Rowan Families are at odds!"
With that, Skye rushed inside, "Where is your sister? I want a face-to-face confrontation!"
Seth panicked, unable to react, "What are you saying? What tendons..."
"Don’t pretend!"
Skye could no longer remain calm, once an aloof goddess now disregarding everything, "You plotted against my sister; what are you pretending for!"
Wait a minute, severed tendons? That’s... that’s infinitely more serious than a twisted ankle!
For the first time, Seth lost his composure, "I didn’t expect her injury to be this severe; I just wanted to... teach her a lesson..."
Skye’s eyes brimmed with tears, "My sister suffered significant blood loss and is in critical condition. If anything happens to her, even if I’m imprisoned, I won’t spare you!"
Seth, struck like thunder, "How could this happen, I didn’t know it would turn out like this, Jonas, you..."
But Jonas only shrugged his hands, "What are you talking about? I don’t understand."
Was he disowning it right there?
Seth said to Jonas, "Hey, what do you mean, I never intended to sever tendons, how did this happen..."
In this situation, Iris’s injury far outweighed Evelyn Rowan’s, and how could the Rowan Family possibly bear that burden!*
How could this happen... He just wanted to give her a scare, not cripple Iris’s hand!
