Chapter 1691: Chapter 1691: Having Sons and Daughters

Li Shi was surprised because it had been a long time since she had seen Gu Xiaojin standing beside the Big Villain, so she asked, "How did you two come together? When did you make up?"

In response, Gu Xiaojin gave a sly smile, eagerly anticipating a good show.

Gu Fan, on the other hand, looked slightly awkward and raised a hand to wave in greeting.

Li Shi frowned slightly. The man in front of her, apart from looking exactly like the Big Villain, had eyes, gestures, and expressions that were completely different.

"You’re not Gu Fan, are you? Who are you, really?" Li Shi turned to Gu Xiaojin, hoping she’d provide some answers.

Since the truth was going to come out anyway, Gu Xiaojin adjusted her mindset, organized her words, and began explaining the origins of this particular Gu Fan.

Upon hearing the truth, Li Shi’s eyes widened in shock. She knew Gu Xiaojin wouldn’t lie to her, but she still couldn’t believe that the man before her was Gu Fan from a past timeline who had traveled through time. No wonder he was so different from the Big Villain.

"Actually, I..." Gu Fan found himself unsure of how to begin, the atmosphere growing even more tense.

Suddenly, Li Shi thought of something and quickly pulled Gu Xiaojin aside to whisper, "Xiaojin, did you tell her everything about the future?"

Gu Xiaojin was puzzled upon hearing this, unsure why Li Shi was asking, but she still nodded.

Li Shi became anxious, exclaiming, "You silly girl! You couldn’t have told him about me marrying him in the future, could you?"

"I did! And my dad also knows you had a child with him," Gu Xiaojin replied, at which point she noticed Li Shi’s face flush with embarrassment and anger.

Li Shi glanced over at Gu Fan, only to catch his calm expression. She even detected a hint of smugness in the corner of his mouth.

"Great, now this guy knows I’m going to marry him in the future—who knows how conceited he’ll get." Li Shi felt thoroughly defeated. With gritted teeth, she stomped her foot and stormed up to Gu Fan, pointing her finger at his nose and scolding him fiercely: "Listen up! Don’t think that just because I marry you in the future, you can act all high and mighty. Me marrying you doesn’t mean I’ll obey your every word. Believe me, I’ll make your life a mess every single day."

"I believe you. I absolutely believe you can do that," Gu Fan said as he gently pushed down her finger.

Gu Fan’s smug expression only further irritated Li Shi, so she decided to ignore him entirely.

"What’s wrong, honey? You’re so angry—who made you mad? Tell me, I’ll help you deal with them," Gu Fan said, slinging an arm around her shoulder like they were on the best of terms.

Li Shi rolled her eyes at him in frustration, signaling him to remove his groping hand from her shoulder.

But Gu Fan acted as if he didn’t catch the hint. Instead, he pointed at the setting sun and sighed, "Who would’ve thought? After all this time, you still ended up marrying me. If I’d known this when you transferred schools in high school, I would’ve gotten your contact info and made sure we applied to the same university."

Li Shi forced herself to hold back her temper. She wasn’t some impulsive teenager anymore—her behavior mattered. Otherwise, she’d already be twisting his ear by now.

Watching their bickering banter, Gu Xiaojin laughed uncontrollably on the side.

Alright, back to the main topic. Before others notice, it’s better to get useful information from Li Shi.

So, Gu Fan shifted into seriousness. He figured that since Li Shi was around the Big Villain, she must know a lot about him. Would she know the ultimate goal behind the Big Villain’s collaboration with Aosai?

To this, Li Shi shook her head. Despite being constantly at the Big Villain’s side, he never told her anything and seemed quite guarded against her.

All these years, the reason Li Shi remained by the Big Villain’s side was because she believed he wouldn’t turn into the kind of person he’d become. She had wanted to use loyalty and warmth to save him.

But now it appeared that the Big Villain had become utterly unapologetic and irredeemable. In other words, Li Shi had married him in vain. At times, Li Shi had been deeply disappointed in the Big Villain, even entertaining thoughts of leaving him, like Su Hui did.

Gu Fan’s heart sank. The Big Villain had killed Lin Xi and Gu Ling, and even Su Hui, his staunchest supporter, had decided to leave him. Now Li Shi was completely disillusioned with him as well. Had the Big Villain truly become someone else entirely?

"I know people change as they grow, but I never thought even I couldn’t escape this truth. How heartbreaking," Gu Fan said as he feigned a melancholic expression—but his hand sneakily found its way back onto Li Shi’s shoulder.

To make matters worse, Gu Fan added, "Look at us—what a happy family, enjoying the beautiful sunset."

"Cut it out!" Li Shi warned, her voice practically dripping with exasperation.

But Gu Fan didn’t care at all and continued reflecting, "Alright, I know you’re going to marry me someday. You can’t run away. So, let’s skip the wedding ring, dress, and dowry money, okay?"

"Get lost, you stingy jerk! You still want to marry me?" Li Shi had reached her limit and gave Gu Fan a good kick.

Gu Fan hurried to explain, "It’s not me marrying you—it’s you marrying me. You’re saving my soul, sacrificing yourself to rescue me. And by saving me, you’re saving everyone. Your sacrifice is noble."

Even Gu Xiaojin couldn’t bear listening anymore as she watched Li Shi abandon all pretenses of poise, resorting to punching Gu Fan. He truly was infuriating.

Once they’d finished bickering, the two returned to their main discussion.

Li Shi reminded Gu Fan of a high school trip to an abandoned small town, a place tied to events he would never forget in his lifetime.

When Gu Fan heard about that abandoned small town, his face darkened immediately. Clearly, it wasn’t associated with pleasant memories.

"Why bring up that abandoned small town?" Gu Fan asked doubtfully. Why bring up such terrifying memories out of nowhere?

Li Shi replied solemnly, "Because I found out the Big Villain visited that abandoned small town—not just once. There might be key information there that you’re looking for."

"Really?" Gu Fan stroked his chin in thought.

This piqued Gu Xiaojin’s curiosity, and she quickly asked, "What’s this abandoned small town? What happened there? Tell me everything!"

Suddenly, a child’s soft "Daddy" interrupted everyone’s train of thought.

Gu Fan looked back and saw a small boy staring at him.

"Daddy!" the boy called out again, then ran over happily and hugged Gu Fan’s leg.

Gu Fan was stunned. Though he had some guesses, he still turned to Li Shi, waiting for her confirmation.

Li Shi nodded and smiled faintly.

Indeed, the little boy was Gu Fan and Li Shi’s son, named Gu Xiaotian.
