This Young Master is not Cannon Fodder-Chapter 692: God Slaying Arm
Although the name of the alliance had been chosen, each force had reached the point where it could not back out. At any time now, any one of them could leave the alliance and decide not to go against the Temple of Death. So, to solidify everyone’s resolve, the first joint action operation was immediately brought to the agenda.
The first plan wasn’t to destroy an interplanetary teleportation array outpost or conquer a planet or two under the Temple of Death’s domain, but to kill the young talents of the Temple of Death on the sixteenth planet. Of course, they would not immediately expose themselves, as that could easily lead to the Temple of Death targeting their forces. No, they wanted to hide their identities and blend in with the natives.
But at that point, each force would have proof of the others’ actions against the Temple of Death. Even if a force wanted to back out, the other members of the alliance would have proof of its action against the hegemon. At that point, they could never disembark from the ship of rebellion.
Naturally, each force would do its best to hide its presence. Even if they succeeded, they would eventually expose themselves. It was just a matter of when.
Gu Longyu thought he would need to strongly offer some suggestions, but the Ancient Sky Sect and the other forces were much more prepared than he expected.
It was only to be expected. The Temple of Death had ruled over the Death Goddess Planetary Alliance for millions of years. To overthrow such a behemoth required more than just one person’s addition. No matter how talented the reborn Dragon Emperor was, he was still only one immortal. Unless he achieved a watershed change and entered the Divine Realm, it was impossible for one immortal to overthrow the Temple of Death.
Even someone as confident and arrogant as Gu Longyu had to admit this silently in his heart. Not only that, but success also depended on internal corruption within the Temple of Death. Only then could the alliance of countless forces have a chance at success.
Success was defined as breaking free of the Temple of Death’s control and ruling their own domains. Yes, the Death Defier Alliance did not think destroying the Temple of Death was likely. Their goal was to sever the Temple of Death’s influence from certain planets and form their own planetary alliance.
It would not be easy. One reason why the Temple of Death had reigned supreme for so long was its control of the interplanetary teleportation array. It was a formation no other force could recreate. Because of this, Gu Longyu also focused on the Law of Space after the Law of Destruction.
The upper echelon did not know how many forces possessed an old-era interplanetary teleportation array, but they had done much research on it, even destroying one in the process. The process was slow, and they dared not take it apart any further.
If the Temple of Death destroyed the interplanetary teleportation arrays in the Death Defier Alliance’s possession, they would practically be confined to their solar systems, and the Temple of Death could target them one by one.
So even if they succeeded, it was still highly unlikely that such success would last.
Perhaps only Gu Longyu dared to set the Temple of Death’s destruction as the goal.
The most important detail was the Goddess of Death. Aside from the members of the Temple of Death, no outsider had seen her—much less seen her take action. There were only myths of the Death Goddess’s great power, one that could devastate an entire planet. Yet, there was no concrete record.
If the Goddess of Death was only a propaganda piece by the Temple of Death, all the better. If she wasn’t, then the Death Defier Alliance’s chances of success were incredibly slim. The Goddess of Death would definitely take action if a large majority of the planets fell out of the Temple of Death’s influence—if she existed.
At this time, the Ancient Sky Sect stepped forward. They claimed to have a trump card capable of killing even a divinity.
This was news to Gu Longyu, and if it were true, he would have to re-evaluate the Ancient Sky Sect. He wasn’t the only one, as the other forces voiced their questions. To cement its status as the leader of the Death Defier Alliance, the Ancient Sky Sect invited singular representatives from the other forces to feel the power of its trump card.
Of course, by “feel,” it didn’t mean witness. The Ancient Sky Sect still wanted to keep the weapon under wraps, but they would let the others feel a trifle of its aura. Gu Longyu also joined these representatives.
It took over a hundred years for everyone to gather at the Ancient Sky Sect on Planet Whitesky. In order to keep their alliance a secret, they couldn’t use the interplanetary teleportation array controlled by the Temple of Death. So, the Ancient Sky Sect had to use its own interplanetary teleportation arrays to teleport to the planet each force was on and escort them back. Alternatively, the other forces could teleport to Planet Whitesky themselves if they had their own interplanetary teleportation arrays.
The number of forces that did so likely did not exceed the number of fingers on one hand. Among the members of the Death Defier Alliance, only three forces revealed possession of an interplanetary teleportation array, including the Ancient Sky Sect. It remained unknown whether other forces possessed an interplanetary teleportation array and kept it hidden.
The representatives sent by the member forces included sect masters, grand elders, or hidden members whom many had forgotten due to the passage of time. Gu Longyu stood among them as the youngest. Still, his strength as an immortal emperor made it impossible for them to take him lightly. What surprised Gu Longyu was the presence of an immortal sovereign from the Thousand Bell Temple.
The immortal sovereign’s presence boosted Gu Longyu’s confidence in dealing with the Temple of Death. 𝓯𝙧𝓮𝓮𝒘𝓮𝙗𝙣𝒐𝒗𝒆𝓵.𝓬𝓸𝒎
“Since everyone has arrived, please follow me. Remember, do not take any unwarranted action, or I can’t guarantee your safety. Even for us, it is not easy to contain the god-slaying arm, which is why it is always sealed. But even in its sealed state, it still emits powerful pressure. You have been warned,” the Ancient Sky Sect Master said.
No one raised any objections and quietly followed behind the Ancient Sky Sect Master. They entered a little-walked area of the Ancient Sky Sect. Even while walking, the Ancient Sky Sect Master activated the concealment function of the sect’s guardian barrier. Even though they walked through public grounds, other members of the sect passed them by without even looking at them, as if the group did not exist.
As they continued, the number of people appeared to decrease until they were the only living beings in the surrounding area. Finally, they stopped at a clearing seemingly devoid of anything.
The Ancient Sky Sect Master formed several hand seals, and the area in front of the group blurred. Gu Longyu even felt fluctuations in space. When the area returned to normal, a massive gate leading underground appeared.
He took out a badge and placed it in an indent in the gate. Nothing happened at first, but a minute later, the gate rumbled and opened, revealing a passage into the ground. Although the gate had just opened, the group tensed. They couldn’t sense anything, but their instincts already warned them of the danger ahead.
Those who had come with skepticism were already half-convinced.
The Ancient Sky Sect Master turned around and stared at the group. “I must reiterate. Be careful and do not carelessly touch anything.”
Although some of the group did not respond, many nodded, expressing their understanding of the importance of the matter. The Ancient Sky Sect Master did not dwell on those who did not respond and led the group down.
Gu Longyu narrowed his eyes as he felt a shift in the air. Once he entered the ground, it felt as if the world had changed. The sensation was even more pronounced than entering an immortal grotto. Accompanying the growing unease was the temperature.
Everyone felt it, but it was a strange heat. Gu Longyu felt physically fine. If anything, the lower they walked, the cooler the air became, but he and the others still felt their bodies growing hot. Just the sensation alone caused their bodies to produce sweat—at least for those who still could.
Even Gu Longyu, with his powerful true dragon-based immortal body, was not immune. Tiny beads of sweat appeared on his skin, but among those who sweated, he produced the least.
Finally, the group reached the end of the stairs.
They stood in a vast underground chamber over a hundred kilometers high and wide. Countless chains wrapped around the mysterious object in the center, binding it to the walls. The sphere formed of chains did not emit any light or fluctuations, but when Gu Longyu laid his eyes on it, he felt as if he were staring into a burning star. Even his body subconsciously heated up, as if fire were scorching his flesh.
Seconds later, Gu Longyu forced himself to break eye contact and gasped. Any longer, he felt the illusory heat would damage his soul. However, he was among the few who had enough willpower to break eye contact.
The Ancient Sky Sect Master showed some surprise at Gu Longyu’s self-control. Even he needed someone to break his focus, and he had only seen this secret after serving his tenure for over ten thousand years.
The sect master helped the other group members break eye contact with the god-slaying arm. All of them had sweat dripping down their faces, and over half showed pained expressions. “Fellow Daoists, I trust you’ve felt the immense might of the divine weapon. Even in this sealed state, it can display such power. When it is fully unsealed, its might will be unparalleled. Even if the Goddess of Death appears, she will fall.”
Although they were injured, many members of the group showed expectant expressions. This show of force not only cemented the Ancient Sky Sect’s role as the leader of the Death Defier Alliance, but also increased the unity among the members. At least, when the representatives returned, meetings proceeded much more smoothly.
Soon, Gu Longyu found himself stepping onto the soil of Planet Madarchy, the sixteenth and most chaotic planet of the Death Goddess Planetary Alliance.
Accompanying him was Springsnow. Other hidden members of the Ancient Sky Sect and members of the Death Defier Alliance also came, but only Springsnow and Gu Longyu appeared at this location.
“How do you plan to disseminate the techniques to the natives?” Springsnow asked. Her mother, Empress Wintersnow, was a public member of the Ancient Sky Sect and wasn’t suitable for taking action on Planet Madarchy, so she stayed behind.
She walked and stood next to Gu Longyu, their shoulders practically touching.
Gu Longyu smiled. “I plan on giving them to some loose cultivators first. Since the natives can’t access the Xiyinet, we don’t have to worry about the Temple of Death realizing someone is helping them behind the scenes.”
The first step of the plan was to increase the power of the natives of Planet Madarchy. If resistance became difficult, the Temple of Death would have to dispatch more immortals to the sixteenth planet, weakening their hold over the other planets. To this end, the Ancient Sky Sect had developed many techniques unrelated to the core methods of their sect hundreds of thousands of years ago to prevent any leakage.
Springsnow frowned. “The cultivators who are part of the top forces on Planet Madarchy are already a step below those belonging to the Death Goddess Planetary Alliance, and these loose cultivators are even weaker. Even with the techniques, they are likely to be killed and have the methods stolen.”
“That’s exactly my plan. No one will bat an eye at a loose cultivator dying. Even finding precious techniques would be chalked up to lucky encounters. Unfortunately, they don’t have the fortune to enjoy them for long,” Gu Longyu said. His eyes sharpened. “As for those who rise, they are the most promising potential threats—and cannon fodder—against the Temple of Death!”
