Chapter 105: Chapter 105: [Three-Day Ordeal: Pulito Bank]

Priskin drew a sharp breath, but his expression showed particular excitement and eagerness, as if this were something he had long been looking forward to.

Chen Ke noticed that everyone seemed to share this sentiment, treating a bank robbery like a high-difficulty challenge rather than a malicious crime.

“Bank robbery isn’t something fun. I thought everyone would be a bit more serious…” Chen Ke spread his hands.

Chen Ke’s entire understanding of bank robbery could be summed up in four words: shot dead on the spot.

Running into the bank with a gun and a ski mask, shouting and yelling, and then forcing the managers to open the vault door…

He shook his head. Let’s not kid ourselves; even Chen Ke knew that most banks in the real world didn’t hold much cash, and some smaller branches didn’t even have a vault.

...

However, fortunately for Chen Ke and his crew, their target wasn’t money, and they already had the key to the corresponding deposit box, which should make the operation easier.

“You’re absolutely right, robbing a bank isn’t simple; there are many things we need to consider,” Pihom nodded.

“Let’s hear your thoughts,” Chen Ke gestured for Pihom to proceed.

Pihom cleared his throat for effect, took an A2-sized piece of paper from the cabinet under the table, and drew a blue dot with a blue marker.

Representing Pulito Bank with the blue dot, Pihom began to outline his preliminary analysis and plan.

Pulito Bank was a small village-scale bank situated in the Holy Oak District, a neighborhood crowded with the wealthy. The specific building structure and geographic location were still unclear.

The entire Holy Oak District might have the best security system in Opportunity City, with two medium-sized County Police stations, and also, the medical department belonging to the Spiritual Ability Administration Bureau was there.

“This is tricky. The Administration Bureau theoretically wouldn’t meddle with a typical bank robbery case, but if we slip up that day and there happens to be a Spiritual Agent nearby…” Lucina shook her head.

“That’s just a medical department. I doubt they would concern themselves with this matter,” Chen Ke analyzed.

“In this era, there is never a shortage of heroes, especially after superheroes ended World War II. These days, superhero movies are all the rage, after all, with Spiritual Energy, any Extraordinary Ability becomes possible…” Pihom also expressed a hint of worry.

Yes, with Spiritual Energy, and along with Holy Relics and Skill manuals, it truly was possible for one person to become a superhero… with great power comes great responsibility, indeed…

Chen Ke felt that with his current abilities, he stood a chance of protecting himself if he encountered an agent from the Administration Bureau, but he didn’t wish to display his abilities in front of postal workers and Special Agents.

After all, he didn’t possess any Spiritual Energy!

He relied on burning his life span to use Skills and Holy Relics, and he wasn’t even clear on how this life countdown worked!

“Can we not go at night and steal the items from the bank?” Chen Ke suggested, as robbing a bank in broad daylight was far too dangerous.

“You think the night would be safer and more covert, but it’s actually the opposite,” Pihom shook his head.

“Why?” Chen Ke asked.

Hall began to explain: Apparently, the alarm systems of all banks in the United Federation were directly connected to the local County Police stations; these alarms operated in two modes: manual and triggered.

During the day, when bank employees and customers were frequently operating bank equipment and moving in and out of restricted areas, the alarm would be set to manual trigger mode; but at night, these alarms would automatically switch to auto-trigger…

“No one knows what action in which spot will trigger the alarm, and once the alarm is triggered, you’ll immediately be surrounded by cops, with absolutely no time to drill open the vault door, so you have no way to sneak into the bank,” Priskin added, having a clear understanding of how long it would take to drill through a door.

“We could sabotage the lines near the bank first…” Chen Ke suggested.

“That’s even more unrealistic… If the bank’s alarm system goes offline, the County Police station would immediately send people over,” Pihom shook his head.

“We need at least, umm… ten minutes to drill open the door. Then we need at least another ten minutes to get away,” Priskin said.

“Ten minutes… that’s kind of long, is there a faster way to open the vault door?” Chen Ke shook his head.

Drilling for ten minutes, if the County Police surrounded them by then, wouldn’t it feel like being wrapped up like dumplings, playing tower defense?

“The managers in the bank don’t have the authority to open it, all the bank vaults are controlled by the head office’s online system, opening the vault requires the branch manager to apply through the system,” Pihom said.

“That complicated?!” Chen Ke wiped his forehead, realizing he had underestimated the complexity.

“That’s also why they hide their secrets in the banks. Moreover, this matter involves the Silence Spell… We still have no idea what Hainerd managed to steal, nor what kind of deal he struck with Si’s consortium. So, I’ll assume the things hidden there carry a certain level of danger…” Pihom spoke slowly.

Everyone nodded silently, indeed, if they ended up cursed by opening the box, that wouldn’t be fun…

“We need to prepare three fast cars, plan two escape routes. During the escape, we’ll split in two directions, one team serves as a decoy to draw away the County Police, and we’ll switch cars en route. So, we can’t use the current vans, we need sturdy, powerful muscle cars. We also need to get a clear understanding of the bank’s surroundings and prepare the supplies we’re going to use…” Pihom looked at everyone.

“This sounds like it can’t be done in a day…” Chen Ke assessed.

He glanced at the countdown display in the corner of his eye, with only 18 hours of life left. There should be no problems surviving tonight, but tomorrow was uncertain.

“We might need three days to do this, two days to prepare, one day to implement the plan, and then wait out a period of time afterwards to avoid detection,” Pihom said.

Chen Ke blinked, not sure what to say. Surviving three days might be normal to others, but for Chen Ke, it was a challenge…

“The main target of this operation is the contents of storage box number 209, but we also need to snag some money on the side to mask our actual objective. The getaway vehicles would be best stolen, so we can avoid tracking and save a considerable amount of money. The guideline for the operation is still to avoid conflict as much as possible, don’t kill civilians, and try not to exchange fire with the cops needlessly,” Pihom concluded.

“I’ll take care of the cars, but I need a helper; one person can’t bring back three cars on their own. Mad Fak, can you drive?” Lucina said.

“Are you joking me?” Chen Ke replied.

Lin Mo certainly could drive, Chen Ke had no doubts about that, it was just unclear how well. As for himself, he did have a driver’s license, but his grocery-shopping skills were hardly up to the demands of a car chase.

“I’ll organize the escape routes,” Hall said.

Priskin indicated that he would arrange for the required weapons and drilling equipment.

“I’ll get Bain to get the blueprints of the bank, and I’ll go with Chen Ke tomorrow for an on-site reconnaissance,” Pihom smiled.

“You’re personally going into the field?” Hall was surprised.

“I haven’t been out for a while, I miss the crazy days of 30 years ago,” Pihom said with crossed arms.

Chen Ke said nothing. In his mind, he was planning where to find a mutated monster to kill tonight, to recharge himself.

“Chen Ke, you seem preoccupied, that worries me,” Pihom said to Chen Ke beside him.

Chen Ke knew what Pihom was worried about; Pihom was concerned Chen Ke might back out when it came down to it. After all, robbing a bank was no small feat.

“I really want to take action now, Pihom, really, time waits for no one,” Chen Ke forced a smile.

“That’s good… it seems I was overthinking it, you still have as much drive as ever. But many things need to be planned for the long term, you need to get used to looking at things over a longer period…” Pihom lectured.

“I never consider what might happen after 20 hours… people need to live in the moment,” Chen Ke said with a wry smile.

“Hey, don’t you need to sleep or eat?” Lucina asked with a laugh.

“To me, those are just entertainment…” Chen Ke spread his hands.

“People grow, and you’ll understand the benefits of long-term thinking in the future,” Pihom laughed heartily.

Chen Ke also laughed. He had indeed grown a lot, just a day before, Chen Ke only thought about things within a five-hour timeframe.
