Brandir was just about to find an excuse to delay when Amberser, as if seeing through his heart, said with a smile, “Rest assured, Master Sunda, I harbor no improper thoughts towards Her Majesty Catherine, you need not treat me as a rival in love.”
Brandir’s face turned red, and he said excitedly, “What did you say?! Where did you hear such a thing?”
Amberser feigned surprise and said, “What, you don’t fancy Her Majesty Catherine? Or did I mistakenly believe a rumor?”

Grinding his teeth, Brandir could neither deny nor admit the accusation. He knew he hadn’t been discreet when pursuing Queen Catherine and there were bound to be rumors, but he didn’t expect they would spread so fast that even a foreign envoy had heard.
Amberser continued, “Master Sunda, not only have I heard that you are pursuing Queen Catherine, but I also heard you were rejected and haven’t been able to see the Elf Queen for several days now, right?”
Brandir snorted coldly and said, “How could a perfect Goddess like Catherine be easily moved? This is just a small test she has instated.”
“Tsk tsk, such an excuse, this must be Master Sunda’s first pursuit of a woman,” Amberser spoke with the tone of someone who had been around the block, making Brandir blush and feel sheepish.
At last, Brandir could only grit his teeth and say, “You! How do you know?!”
Though he was already in his thirties, his emotional experience was indeed blank; earlier he had devoted all his energy to communing with nature and training, which is why he had reached Legendary Rank in such a short time.
He used to think women would only slow his progress in training.
But the moment he saw Catherine, the innocent Druid was completely smitten.
When Amberser pinpointed his inner turmoil with a single sentence, Brandir felt he could hardly hold on.
“I could tell at a glance; I may not be much older than you, but I probably have more experience with emotions. Let me guess, did you express your love to Queen Catherine passionately upon your first meeting and then flood her with gifts, leading her to avoid you?”
Brandir’s eyes widened. How could this man describe the events as if he had seen them with his own eyes? Rumors weren’t this detailed, were they?
“How, how could you guess even this?”
Amberser laughed and then said, “I truly advise you that if you really intend to pursue a queen, what you’re doing now is useless. If you continue this fruitless effort, the only outcome will be Queen Catherine lodging a complaint with Emerald Dream Forest, insisting that you be sent as far away as possible.”
“How could this be…” Brandir wanted to argue, but on reflection, it did seem that way; Catherine had been smiling when they first met, but after his blatant expression of love, she had grown cold.
Was he wrong?
Could there be special requirements he wasn’t aware of in courting a queen?
Seeing Brandir’s expression, Amberser realized the timing was right and said to him, “You won’t be able to learn complicated maneuvers quickly, but how about this—if you can arrange a meeting for us with Queen Catherine, I promise I can help bridge the gap between you and the Elf Queen, at the very least I could find out her likes and dislikes for you.”
“You think you can do that?” Brandir was skeptical, considering Amberser’s current disheveled appearance—it would be generous to say Monger Greyriver was simply not handsome, considering how weatherworn the old man looked.
But then Brandir looked towards Airel, who was seated quietly next to Amberser, beautiful as a Princess should be, and as docile as an attendant from the start, confusing who was the princess and who was the servant.
This Child of the Storm seemed to really have ways with women.
Brandir thought that since envoys from Fury Tide Kingdom requesting to see the Elf Queen was reasonable, what harm could there be in letting them meet? If this man could help him learn Catherine’s preferences, that would indeed be a great favor.
“Fine, I’ll arrange it for you; by tonight at the latest, you should be able to meet Queen Catherine, but…” Brandir stared intently into Amberser’s eyes.
Amberser swore earnestly, “I, Monger Greyriver, swear on my life; if I can’t fulfill the promise, let me, Monger Greyriver, die without a whole corpse.”
Brandir hastily said, “No need to be so drastic… Alright, I trust you!”
He’d sworn an oath on his life; it had to be true.
