This Is Not a Bug but a Game Feature-Chapter 242 - 167: Are Kings and Nobles Born Different?
"... Up until now, a total of about 27 million marbles have been generated in the game!"
"In the classic mode, marbles are just marbles, a plain and simple game item with no special features."
"But in the ’Marble Soul’ mode, since the winner can devour the losing player’s Marble Soul to enhance their own power, this is where the problem arises..."
At this point, Chen Ba wrote down the keywords "Devour" and "Marble Soul" on the whiteboard.
This is the origin of everything.
The Marble Soul attaches to a marble but exists only in the special mode. It is cleared and reset upon leaving the mode, acting as a feature component with limitations.
Within this feature component, the core is actually limitless growth potential!
"Once the level of the Marble Soul increases, it can gain more powerful strength and destructive capability, and can destroy the enemy’s marbles! This is something ordinary marbles cannot do..."
How does it manage this?
Why is there such a difference between ordinary marbles and marbles with a level 10 Marble Soul?
"The answer is permissions!"
"When players defeat others, they increase the level of their Marble Soul, gaining more powerful attributes and strength... This process is essentially a process of enhancing permissions."
By this point, everyone had already caught on.
After noting down Ba’s descriptions with pen and paper, Zhong Shengwei was the first to grasp the main point: "But aren’t these permissions supposed to be cleared and reset at the end of a round?"
This analogy of permissions is quite easy to understand.
After the Marble Soul reaches a certain level, within this game round, players can experience the game as if they were using cheats.
Things like aimbot + wallhack + destructive environment, etc...
Why do they experience the game as if they were using cheats? Because their Marble Soul level is high, and the game automatically allocates the corresponding permissions to the player based on the Marble Soul level!
So, defeating other players, devouring their Marble Soul, and leveling up is essentially a process of acquiring "cheat-like" permissions in disguise.
However, this cheat isn’t something a third-party cheat author came up with, but rather a hidden mechanism preset from the early development of the game.
Cheating isn’t the issue.
After all, you’ve met such a stringent prerequisite condition, that is, killing 29 players in one round, it doesn’t matter if the game gives you a bit of fun, as it won’t impact other players’ gaming experience.
In one game round of only 30 people, by the time players obtain this "legal cheat-like" permission, the game round has already ended.
In other words, what does it matter if you get the legal cheat-like experience?
The game round is over, and there are no remaining players; even if you’re invincible now, what could you possibly do? Can the player you defeated already come back to life for you to defeat again?
The problem, however, is that this legal cheating situation is considered a game easter egg or hidden mechanism. Logically, it should be reset after each round.
But the current situation is that, instead of being reset, it continues into the next game round and can even carry the Marble Soul into classic mode...
"You’re right!"
"The game indeed has this mechanism, and after a normal game round ends, no matter what level your Marble Soul is, it’s all reset to zero."
Chen Ba explained: "In hindsight, that’s my fault. I only designed the effects for Marble Souls of level 1 to 30, never considering higher levels."
The 1-30 Marble Soul level range is the framework he created with Lu, allowing the game to run orderly within this framework.
Even if a player reaches a level 30 Marble Soul in a game round, gaining legal cheat-like permissions.
OK! They can’t advance beyond this, and this legal cheat-like permission only lasts for twenty seconds, as everything resets when the results screen appears.
Level 31?
Chen Ba had never considered such a possibility since there are only 30 people in one game round, where would a level 31 Marble Soul come from?
He wouldn’t specifically set up a plan for something non-existent, and there’s not even any command for it, only player.setlevel(1-30).
No preset plan exists, hence no corresponding command or result.
But there is a logic reference available.
In the game’s underlying code, a section is dedicated to opening higher in-game permissions with each level increase of the Marble Soul.
At level 30, the player’s in-game experience is already comparable to flying cheats and wall hacks.
What’s beyond that?
Because Chen Ba and Lu never considered the possibility of a level 31 Marble Soul, they also didn’t anticipate it.
When a player in the game kills more than 29 players and elevates the Marble Soul to level 31, the system surprisingly allocates some administrator permissions.
Administrator permissions override the game’s basic operational permissions, meaning the round and Marble Soul level that should have been reset are permanently retained.
That’s not all.
What’s also retained is the mechanism allowing the Marble Soul to continue growing by devouring!
In the game, every marble that spawns carries a "Marble Soul", only it remains in "inactive" status and can only be activated in special mode.
"In other words..."
"In cases like [Ba’s Little Coquettish Wife], can their Marble Soul continue to grow as long as they keep absorbing other Marble Souls?"
"Exactly!"
Chen Ba rubbed his temples.
The tumultuous red-patterned marble has likely reached a level over 100 by now.
And that’s not the end; it can continue to advance, truly living up to the phrase "growth without limitation".
